I've been watching Bates Motel, and, so far, I think it's pretty interesting. One thing I've noticed, however, is that somewhere in each episode, Norman's watching an old movie or two on TV.

For instance, at the beginning of episode 1, "Pilot", he's watching His Girl Friday (1940). Midway through episode 2, "Nice Town You Picked, Norma...", he's watching Road to Utopia (1946). In episode 3, "What's Wrong with Norman", however, he watches two. The second one he watches (near the end of the episode) is Angel and the Badman (1947), but I can't identify the first one (the one that he watches in the hospital about eight minutes in). Here's a screenshot:

In this scene of the movie, the girl is talking about wanting to find someone to take her to some dance. Does anyone know which movie it is?

Don't know the movie, but it looks like the identical set to "High Society" - I've seen that pool before....

I searched the show's website and the IMdB site to no avail in finding credits for any of the snippets used. A blog a IMdB agrees that "His Girl Friday" was used. I noticed that Universal Television is listed as one of the Producers and thought maybe the snippets would be from their archives but "His Girl Friday" was a Columbia product. There is a blog on the IMdB "Bates HMotel" page that discusses what Norman watches on TV. You may find that helpful beyond this question. See:

Trivia note: The budget for the show was $10,000,000!

Edit to fix Hotel into Motel.
