A question of mine recently appeared in the New question which had a rating of nearly 0.39 but only 53 percent of people got the correct answer. What would happen to such a question? What is the general criteria of selecting new questions for other games?

Most questions with a good rating will be used somewhere. One with 53% correct rate might be used in a Harder mixed quiz (those ones that show up on the home page, eg Harder Music Mix) or maybe in Who's the Smartest if that game is using single questions still. No one (except Terry I assume!) knows the exact thresholds for what % goes to what game

Who's the Smartest? doesn't use single questions anymore.

What about the impossible category in the Global Challenge?

I don't believe so. As far as I know, the only games that have these questions, apart from New Question Game, are
1) Knockout
2) Quick Quiz
3) Newest Mixed Quizzes
4) Mixed Trivia
5) The Daily Game

I ran into one of my own single questions in the Team vs Team quiz one day last week, I'm pretty sure.

So Obscurity, Smartest, and Piece of Cake only use questions from quizzes?

Hmmm... so I guess this answer is out of date?

Impossible: 0% - 60%

Does that mean that the questions that fall outside the 55-95% range are discarded into the Question Black Hole?

I don't think any of the questions that get a positive approval go to waste. None of the people speculating on the basis of what they have seen actually know definitively how they are used, but they are. That post from Terry, who is the man who knows, is purposely a bit vague, with the etc. on the end, but it does show that he is not so wasteful of resources as to discard a useable question!

And even if those games don't currently use single questions doesn't mean they never will

On the other hand, what is the fate of those questions that get over 95 percent correct and are rated above 0.2?

According to the quote from Terry posted above:

"Easy Game: 85% - 99%"

So any question with between 85% and 99%, that has a rank above 0, will go into the Easy Game (Piece of Cake) pool, while any rare questions on exactly 100% probably won't be included in anything.

Assuming that the system is still the same as it was when Terry posted that... in 2009.

You could ask what color the sky is, and it wouldn't get 100% correct. It's not that anyone actually thinks it's yellow, pink or green, but that someone will accidentally click an answer they didn't mean, or someone who is racing through just clicking and tabbing without looking at the questions will select one of them.

Well yes, but theoretically, it could happen - especially considering that some questions don't get that many plays in the NQG. If only 100 people answer the question, then maybe a question could get 100% correct, and with the number of questions on this site being in the millions, it's not implausible. And if the results are rounded, up to 0.5% of people answering could get it wrong, and it would still be considered 100%.

(So the sky isn't green? Who knew?)

Single questions will increasingly pop up in appropriate places. For example, a very difficult question that is rated well might eventually end up in "Impossible" in the global challenge.

Not a single well rated question has been deleted due to difficulty. They just are unlikely to appear nearly as often as easier questions.

That is a relief Terry... I rarely see any of my questions whilst playing, and, although some of them are quite difficult, I think they're generally pretty good.

Which reminds me; does the system have any way of preventing an author playing his or her own questions? Can it identify a player that clicks to play a game that might contain two or three of their questions and 'replace' them in an instant?

I hope not, because in some quizzes, it is a relief to see your own questions and know you will get something right!

I've definitely seen my own questions turn up, so they're not excluded. That's no guarantee of getting them right, of course...

It looks like Terry just changed that recently. I just played a Humanities and they were 100% from QQ questions.

I hope that isn't the trend for every set. I like being able to select "play this quiz" and then play that quiz. I have often used the Daily Games to take me to quizzes that I might have otherwise overlooked, and I'd hate to see that go away.

Right now it's 100% new questions just so I can test it out (and you guys will let me know what you think of the avg difficulty).

What I will do though is have a random distribution... so 50% of the time you'll get the quiz DB and 50% of the time the single qn database, giving a big variety of stuff.

Another question is that I counted 21 questions of mine meeting the question quest challenge criteria whereas the official list shows that 25 meet the criteria. Can anybody explain why this difference is there?

Sorry mask, no idea.

Just played the hourly obscure game and one of mine was in there.

Difficulty: 48% got it correct.
User rating (0.0639): average

Surprised to see it in there with such a low rating, and I would have thought 48% was a bit high for Obscurity. Nice to know it's being used though.

Darn, if Obscurity is using ones with 48% correct, I guess there's no place for my record-low 9% question to go!

guitargoddess: My record low is a 4%. I guess mine is going in the Impossible game. Your 9% would probably go there as well, asssuming Terry's post that gracious quoted earlier in the thread is any indication.

mask100: If you click on "My Contributions: All Accepted Submissions" it shows all questions but if you click on "My Contributions: Rated", it does not. Maybe you were clicking on the "Rated" link and that's why you have differing numbers.
