Here is one I made yesterday using papers printed off a new CD set I received earlier in the week, it has some glorious papers on it. One I made a couple of days ago has been sent already without being scanned as my scanner was playing up.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sun Nov 01 2009 12:27 PM

Great card, Sue!

I'm pleased with my day. I started it by finishing another mini album - this time with photos taken in Paris.

Then a friend called round and showed me how to insert a zip. I had a go and ended up making a little make-up bag.

After that there was no stopping me and I finally had a go at making one of those pencil rolls that you see doing the rounds of the blogs online. I am delighted to have managed to complete something that doesn't look too bad, even if I say so myself.

I filled it with watercolour pencils and a koi brush, and intend giving it to my daughter as a christmas present.

Other shots of the roll and the other stuff I made can be seen on my blog, here.

A few years ago, I made two "handbags" on plastic canvas and with teeny tiny seed beads, one for myself and one for a good friend. Well i have been keeping my fingers busy, as you can see! Four of the handbags are for good friends while the other four are for myself

Now Jane, THAT is patience~They are lovely

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Tue Nov 03 2009 03:14 AM

Yes, ren, a longer version woks great for knitting needles. (I have one for my bamboo needles, which I bought oh, 15-20 years ago, when the idea was new and novel).

Jane, they are fantastic! I can't imagine ever doing anything so fiddly as making bead-bags! Well done girl!

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Tue Nov 03 2009 06:31 PM

I've just made four cards tonight, all the same. They are about .5cm deep as there is a pocket inside in which I placed some stamped images which I am exchanging on another forum.

They're quite simple, but I quite like them.

Here's (sort of) what it looks like inside.

And to complete the series, a milk-carton-style box, which I will fill with sweets and small treats for my nieces big sisters. No jealousy that way

Yes indeed. This kit is called "Eskimo Kisses", not very PC, but certainly cute.

Thanks for confirming that. I ordered the BG Eskimo Kisses range last week and it should be delivered tomorrow. I thought that was from the range. It really is cute, isn't it?

Looking forward to seeing some cards from you soon, Denni

Here's something I've been dying to do for some years now!

A masquerade mask on Plastic canvas embroidered with rainbow coloured cottens and feathers. It is supposed to have a knitting needle/stick at the side with ribbons twirled around it - but thats a work in progress!
Tomorrow I will start showing some of my christmas tree decorations

Here is the first batch of embroideries. If you look really carefully you we see the Teddy is embroidered with Elliot, and Santa, to the left of it, has William. I wonder who they could be for?

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Fri Nov 13 2009 09:50 PM

ahh great box, Toni.
And kudos to you Jane for your patience with the needlework. I would ahve thrown across the room after the first one.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sat Nov 14 2009 12:34 AM

Love the box, and I'm in awe of the needlework. Patience like that I don't have!

For a change, here's a layout that I did a while ago at a scrapbooking weekend retreat. We were given a diagram and challenged to do a layout following it. I was happy with this for the simple reason that I made use of paper I already had, and photos from a file started for a course (all about organising one's photos) that I took last spring. Only thing I bought was the lettering. Didn't win anything, but didn't expect to

Next up ...

The first one is a decoupage card, of Raymond Briggs "The Snowman", while the other is a recycled Christmas Card (a standard card which someone sent us last year), which I liked the sepia tones. The bronze embossed paper finishs it off.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Wed Nov 18 2009 02:52 AM

Two fairly simple cards - the first has a "coat" of embossed paper, the other, seeming it was an embossed card, just needed a small embellishment on it

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Wed Nov 18 2009 11:00 AM

I am currently making some 'glitzy' Christmas cards. My local garden centre has some gorgeous Christmas ribbons, fairly wide (2.5 inches or just over 6cms), on special offer, two for the price of one and they have standardised the price of a roll (ten yards) to £6 even though some are priced at £10 and some at £6. I have also bought glitter paper/card, metallic card, glittered large snowflakes etc.

This one uses one of the large snowflakes.

I am going to break the rules here, sorry mods! This is one card but I need to show two photos in order to show the card. It is for my cousin who lives here in Jersey, she is 'cat mad', she loves any cat, domestic or big cats. There are fourteen surfaces, all different, seven domestic and seven of big cats.

Needless to say it weighs a ton.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Thu Dec 17 2009 07:38 AM

Seeing those boxes reminded me that the other day I covered a box for a gift. A former neighbour asked me where I got my cards with 'Handcraft by *name*' printed on the back as she makes birthday cards. As she doesn't have a computer I printed some cards of various sizes with her name and then with the correct envelopes put them in an old acetate box. As the box had sticky labels which wouldn't come off I thought I would line the lid and base with plain paper the decorate the lid.

I have been busy making some Christmas gifts, but I can only post a part of one of them, as most of them consist of photos of people who might not like me posting them, made into albums or other displays.

This is the first panel of a 4-panel hanging for my niece, the only one I can show, at least until she has seen it and given me the OK to show any more.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Fri Jan 29 2010 11:28 AM

I just finished making this one today. It is an A4 card so rather large.

Edited to say the card is really black not sort of mucky colour - and Sara, no, this is not your birthday card, it is nothing like the card that I have made for you!

Further edited for the sake of people who don't understand how I made it. The white started off life as a piece of A4 parchment paper, I then traced the pattern with a pencil then using various tools I embossed the design then pricked the paper along all the lines and then cut by putting the points of special scissors into two holes then snip. I started this card on 20th and finished it today but was away for part of the time so it took about four or five days sometimes working for about twelve hours with some breaks. It has been known for me to spend more than a week on one card.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sat Feb 13 2010 05:40 AM

The worse bit about making it was trying to make sure that I stuck it on straight.

This one did take more than a week to make, I didn't take note of the number of hours but it was a lot.

If this wasn't enough, I then made the same design but reduced the size to A5 instead of A4 - I was on a roll. The person who received it was pleased with it.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sun Feb 28 2010 05:08 AM

I am always blown away by the amount of work and detail that goes into your parchment, Sue, and that clock is just stunning!

I attended my first ever crop a couple of weeks ago. The project for the day was a mini album, and I was totally captivated by it. I really liked the choice of papers that the girls had gone for. Luckily I had a series of photos which were suitable for the album, so I've been working on that this last two weeks.

The title 'La Soupe aux Cailloux' (Rock soup) is the title of a kids fable here, where a sneaky beggar man entices a selfish housewife to give him lots of vegetables 'to improve' his already-delicious soup (a rock in boiling water). My kids have always loved the story, and the set of photos of my kids making garden soup out of rotten fruit, leaves, pine cones, grass, muddy water and ... rocks ...just screamed 'rock soup' to me:

The interior of the album can be seen here on my blog

Not really very crafty myself but stumbled across the Martha Stewart show on free to air TV today (usually working) She had on an amazing man making moving Valentines cards and showing some fabulous ones from the 19th century. Apparently you can download for free the taskcards for these. Has anyone on here made anything available from her site? Looked like a pretty good show to me from just one viewing. Any USA people on here who can tell me if following this show is worth it?

Here's the cover of a mini album I made up this weekend, using an empty juice carton covered in Kraft paper as the support for the cover:

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Mon Mar 22 2010 07:15 PM

This is only one card so I am putting TWO scans otherwise you can't see it as it is!

The front of the card has the feather but there is an alternative front because you open the card and there is a panel on the right which could be flipped over the top of the feather and therefore be the front - confusing? Actually it is a very nice card even though I say it myself, the green is iridescent and shines both green and blue, very peacock-like. I used a couple of my new punches on the gold, they were a gift from the person who wanted me to make this card for them to give to a friend.

Great card, Copago, and you make that sound so easy

I like the "circles" card, too, Santana, but it was the pickiest one to make. Maybe that's why I like it, eh?

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sat Jun 19 2010 03:18 AM

Hard work is it's own reward, eh, Liz? I think it shows in the card!

Love yours too, Copago! Not always esty to make cards for guys!

Here's a really really girlie page I put together last night. I decided to try 'Kawaii' style for a change, lots of pink, lots of little-girlie tacky stuff, lots of plastic ... just what any four year old little girl loves

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sat Jun 19 2010 11:42 AM

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sat Jun 19 2010 03:12 PM

Made her? Did you sit her down qat gunpoint and make Sue make a page?

I like your page, Toni - love the colours.
I only ever scrap the boy so it's nice to do a girly page every now and then. For our neighbour's little girls' birthday I gave her a scrap pack and a day scrapbooking with all my gear. It was so much fun

I pretty much copied this card - only changed a few things but I like it. made a fair few yesterday for packs for little Christmas presents.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sun Jun 20 2010 07:47 AM

Very cute snail card.

Yes she made me, she sent me some 'bits' and I felt obliged to use them! That was quite a while back. More recently my supplier of cheap craft goodies (like Nesties) suggested that I attend the crop she goes to, so to keep her sweet (and my supply line open) I went. I am also booked into another one in September, some people coming over from the UK, expensive but all we need will be supplied. ScrapaGoGo.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Fri Jul 16 2010 05:58 AM

Sounds great, Sue. I get to go to my weekend crop in September too. Getting excited already. I haven't scrapped much lately (only done four pages all year ) but will make up for lost time then.

Been on a bit of a card making spree instead of the layouts and made a pack of these cards. I use them for little gifts if I need something quick. On the ones in the pack I did a different embossing on each of the panels and not just the dots like on the sample one.

(edit .. opps, posted the dog form the photo a day thread again!)

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Fri Jul 16 2010 06:44 AM

Great. Do you emboss a piece of card then stick it on or do you emboss half the cardblank?
Posted by: Copago

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Fri Jul 16 2010 06:52 AM

I emboss the cardstock then stick it on.

I've had the folders for a while but have really only gotten into using them lately.

Another bit of parchment, it isn't a card, it is for framing. I tried to take a photo of it in the frame but the reflection in the glass made it difficult so this is a scan. It is almost A4 in size.

I've been keeping my fingers busy by making a "Rosie Rags" hanger-upper for my own pleasure. Rosie is the mascot of the Variety Club - hence the gold heart on her sleeve, the gold heart is the Variety Club symbol. Rosie's done on plastic canvas and done entirely in teeny tiny seed beads. The beauty of Rosie Rags is that you can change her hair colour and also use up scraps of cotton for her patchwork skirt smile

This one is just whitework which is something I need to brush up on.

The fan which I showed a while back has now been mounted and frames, I stuck two identical frames one on top of the other which gave me the depth that I needed. You can see it here if you feel inclined.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your pages now wink

I've just spent a weekend on a Scrapbooking workshop with Karine Cazenave and Celine Navarro, but I can't show the projects until mid-December as they are doing several more workshops on the same theme throughout France. Final one of the weekend ones. The lady on the scooter was stuck over the top of one of her favourite places in the island (the favourite being an eatery!), I didn't have an appropriate photo of her there so created it. smile

Posted by: Santana2002

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sat Oct 02 2010 11:25 PM

Yep, I used rolls of paper for the first one. Little tip, however, use light paper for rolling the paper as the more rigid cardstock doesn't roll very well and had me pulling my hair out in clumps!

Thank you both!

Great layouts, Sue and Santana both! I have been working on an album for a course and will have to post some of the pages. I loved the project, all in 3D, so I stayed up late to get it finished (hence the terrible photo of my page):

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Thu Dec 30 2010 12:18 PM

I have absolutely no talent at scrapbooking, so am in awe of everyone's work here!

I DO love paper though. Sometimes the paper is so pretty I never do ANYthing with it other than take it out and look at it once awhile and think "oooo, I'm going to save THAT for something really special". I have no idea exactly WHAT though and I suspect that after I die, SOMEone will be swearing at the amount of flammable material they will have to throw out lol.

Anyway, sometimes I manage to make use of "non-pretty" paper, and that is to turn it into something else, such as this papier mache carousel horse I made about 6 years ago. Santa rides him at Christmas. A Gargoyle is the jockey for the rest of the year, minus the poinsettias/decorations.

(as for scale, the glass railing behind him is 4 ft x 4 ft)

Making boxed sets of cards for other people to use is a FABulous idea (and very generous of you all, I might add). You folks should really think about teaching classes!

Hmmm... as did my 4 year old niece who decided to ride the "pretty pony" lol. I confess I'm a dreamer, not an engineer. In the beginning there was just a broomstick handle running up through the center (and of course, I didn't think of the impracticalities of building a horse where only one hoof was actually touching "ground" lol). I'd never tackled any project that big before, but after that episode I quickly learned about wiring a proper structure. Hubby saved the day by going out and buying a huge metal bracket and bolting it to the wood base. And then the repairs began lol.

Anyhoo, here's more "paper crap" (as my husband calls it). This whole thing started when I decided to make a dragon, which unfortunately ended up looking like a roast turkey. So I added four legs and turned it into a camel, which in turn prompted the rest of the characters below:

(disclaimer: I did not make the little ceramic lamb on the bottom left. It was a gift, but it's the right size for the rest of them)

Beautiful cards, Copago. A brilliant idea for gifts.

Jakeroo, your carousel horse is stunning but I think being able to transform a dragon into a camel is sheer wizardry.

I can knit (quite well in fact), but I hate knitting big things! It just gets so heavy and cumbersome on the needles! You must have great patience for such a project!

I've been doing more exercising (and clothes shopping) than crafty stuff recently, but here's a layout I made on one of my 'me' nights:

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Mon Feb 28 2011 01:10 PM

Do you follow a sketch, Sue? It makes things lots easier! All you have to do is choose papers with colours which complement your photo, choose a background colour, and follow the sketch. The page 'Precious Friends' was a scraplift of a page I saw in a magazine, (I added in the film negatives as I found the result a bit too bare), and the page 'sunshine baby' was put together in 15 minutes, based on this sketch:

I added in a few extra bits when the basic page was assembled (mainly rub-ons in this case), but often I add buttons, eyelets, cord, stamps, etc ... I usually either scraplift somebody else's layout or follow a sketch, as otherwise I spend weeks and weeks hesitating over everything, and end up putting it all away again.

Another 'trick' is to use a neutral background (white, black or beige), and if you are having trouble matching the patterned paper colours to your photo, then go for a black and white or sepia photo. That way you can put whatever colour scheme you like with it.
Posted by: sue943

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Wed Mar 02 2011 07:07 PM

The short answer is No but I go to crops and we normally have a kit to use and it will give the layouts and materials needed and you are told what you need in the way of photos.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Thu Mar 24 2011 08:25 PM

This card weighs a ton.

There is a story behind it, I decided that I wanted an oyster shell so I jumped into my car and drove about 6 miles to a vivier (a place which sells fish) and asked a slightly bemused man how much an oyster would cost.

Man - "30p"
Me - "How big are they? Could you show me a selection please?"
Man goes to the tank and brings me three oysters of varying shapes and sizes to view.
Me - "That one is about the right size, could you open it for me without damaging the shell as I want to use it on a card? You can throw the oyster away, I only want the shell"
Bemused looking man - "You don't like oysters?"
Me - "No, as I said, I want to stick it on a card"
Man opens oyster very carefully, giving me strange looks
Me - "Can I have a few moules too please, just a few not a bagful and I don't mind if they are already open as I won't be eating them"
Man - "Would you like some of these shells too?" He was gathering up some shells from on a shelf, "and how about a scallop shell?"
He put the lot in a bag and handed it to me as I offered him a £1 coin.
Man - "No, that it fine, don't worry about that"

I think the poor man was traumatised, he will be dining out on tales of the demented old woman wanting to stick oysters on a card! smile

It is one for the pile that I am hoping to sell in April.

Hehe very cute!!!

I've been in a crafty slump recently, so was very happy to put together this A4 page:

I scraplifted it from a magazine, and am very pleased with the result. The grid is a brush which I found online and printed directly onto the cardstock. A super-easy, super-cheapo layout (there must be less than 2€ worth of stuff used including ink and the photo), but it still looks good.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Tue Jun 14 2011 05:07 PM

Wonderful stuff, everyone! I really like that page Santana.

I tried something new today, and made a postcard using a photo I took myself, white card stock and some stickers from my stash. It is going to an architecture student in Indonesia who says that she likes scrapbooking and home made cards, so I hope she'll like it.

Oddly, this photo is actually larger than the card itself...

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sun Jun 19 2011 04:06 PM

My newest card. I needed to make a monotoned card for a challenge and wasn't sure what I wanted to do, I fancied doing white on white but had no ideas then saw someone showing a lattice card she had made, she said the instructions for making the lattice were on YouTube so off I went to look to find out how it was done. This is my first of this type of card, I have another couple in the pipeline, different colours though.

I guess one will have to take care when writing inside so the writing doesn't show through the lattice.

Lovely. Did you make the lattice separately and stick it on? I guess so. It really looks intricate.
Posted by: sue943

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Mon Jun 20 2011 09:16 AM

I cut lots of strips of card 1/8th inch wide then stuck them in one direction about 1cm apart then let the glue dry. Then I wove in the strips for the opposite direction then stuck them down. When cutting the aperture I cut an identical one on another piece of card which I then stuck down on the back of the front, if you know what I mean, to cover the stuck bits.

Everything else on the card has been punched out of white card then stuck on.

Sue, your cards look great, really classy! They look fiddly though, don't you ever lose patience???

Here's a lo I made recently, very simple to do: I just sketched in all the flowers and stuff onto a white sheet, coloured them with ProMarkers and added photo, title and a fake film strip:

Talking of crops, I made the support for a mini album back in April during an online crop, but only just got to finish the album off last night:

The rest is here on my blog if you're feeling curious.

Despite it being for my son, I think it works, despite all that pink and the floral paper.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Sun Sep 04 2011 03:50 AM

Cute card, Jill! and that flower looks as if it was meant to be in black and white, don't go colouring it in now!

My background is genuinely stitched together: lots of little squares cut out of scraps, lightly glued down then stitched over. I splashed some gesso (undercoat) around where I wanted the photo to be to have it a little less 'busy' then sprayed over a mask to let the gateway appear.

Here's another page I made using the same technique, only this time I didn't take the lazy way out by cutting large squares, these squares are only 2.5cm² each:

I'm really getting into spraying my backgrounds and using masks! They really allow you to personalise any background perfectly.

Love your card, and your little rabbit! His ears are ginormous!!! What's the paper collection? I really love all those cheery colours!
Posted by: Copago

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Wed Sep 28 2011 02:38 PM

Thanks! The paper was Lime Twist. smile

WHen you spray the backgrounds do you make up the spray yourself or is it a bought product? Would be fun to cut out and make your own masks.
Posted by: Santana2002

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Wed Sep 28 2011 06:14 PM

I use a mix of purpose-bought spray inks (glimmer mist, but I find the colour not intense enough), or the Adirondack color washes which are great, and some sprays which I have made up myself. For that I dilute regular india ink in water and add some perfect pearls if I want it to shimmer. I have also used the kids liquid water paints, diluted in water or some acrylic paint again diluted to a good consistency in water. This is the cheapest option and gives great coverage and colour, particularly for the primaries.

I have cut out lots of masks myself! The internet is a great resource for simple models and shapes (try: coloring+whatever). I cut them in bristol cardstock (very common school supply and dirt cheap! They don't last long, but they last long enough to use several times. The big advantage of making your own masks is that you can adjust the size to fit your project.

I do have some plastic masks which I bought, and I use them mainly for background, as a change from stamps.

Thanks for the heads up on the paper range. I have the stars and hot air balloon papers from Lime Twist, but hadn't seen the bingo numbers or that cool stripey paper, nor the kites.

Have fun getting your hands inky!!!

Here's a page I made tonight. The red motif in the background (right hand side) is sprayed with Glimmer mist using a shop-bought mask. I then flipped it over and used the 'negative' side for the little detail on the top left of the photo.

In this page the leafy fronds are a mask I made myself, and in this one the various blue and golden rectangles are primitive masks which I also made myself. It doesn't take much to get a great result.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Thu Dec 01 2011 06:39 AM

Several times each year I donate cards to the Salvation Army to sell for charity and a couple of weeks ago I sent two boxes for their sale last weekend. The person who sells the cards told me a very sad story.

She said that a young woman, probably in her twenties, came to her stand and asked if there was a special card which would withstand the weather. Glenys asked what she meant and the girl was in tears as she explained. Her daughter died two months ago and the grave didn't have a headstone yet and it was her birthday the following day so she wanted to place something on the grave for her little daughter. She was advised to put the card in a see through plastic bag.

This is the card which she bought for her daughter, it is A4 in size and decoupaged. I felt, and still feel, very humble that she should use one of my cards in this way.

A bit of Arran for a Christmas present waistcoat. I like to get back to knitting when the cold weather starts. It is too hot and humid in Summer here.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 3 - Fri Jan 06 2012 07:10 AM

I am glad that you like it. For the others who didn't know, I had sent Jane a card for her birthday, not the same as this one, and it didn't arrive so I waited until after the Christmas rush before attempting to send another. For all I know the other one might still arrive, it could be still in the postbox!

Beautiful card!

Today I'd like to share something crafted by a friend of mine. Marina owns a vintage clothing store, with a side of antiques and general "neat stuff". She busies herself mending, altering, framing and so on, whilst allowing customers to browse, or when chatting with folk like me. Today she was making a bracelet out of old buttons, and I thought to share the finished product here, with her permission. That's her hand smile

A new Craft Circle thread is due, this one is a bit weighty,
Starting a new one and locking this. The stuff on this one is incredible, really!
