The last thread was so wonderful I am amazed at the talent. So keep showing your great projects here. By the way what about some photos from the men? I know we must have some crafty guys around here!
Here goes then Gallery 4!

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Wed Jan 18 2012 08:55 AM

Since there is a nice new empty thread I guess that I ought to start it off with a picture.

I was rummaging in one of my big boxes last night looking for something, I didn't find what I wanted but did find sixteen Christmas cards which I had made in 2010 then lost! Fortunately the inserts don't have the year on them so I can use them all this year instead.

Here is one of them, the image is part of a paper serviette/napkin, it is stuck onto parchment, then that is stuck to the card blank.

Gotta love a littel red-breasted robin, eh?

Here's a shaker card I made following a live online crop tonight:

And a second one from the same tutorial can be seen here

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Wed Jan 25 2012 05:46 AM

That is brilliant, and thank you for the idea. it is Hermione's second birthday in February and a shaker card will be ideal for her.

For those of you who do not know what it is, a shaker card has a raised tramsparent bit and in the sealed 'pocket' you put things like beads or glitter or similar so that when you shake it it makes a noise.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Wed Jan 25 2012 06:36 AM

Thanks Sue!

Great idea for Hermione's birthday! I plan on using my one and two others similar for my three nieces' forthcoming birthdays (ages 3, 4 and 7). They should get a bit of fun out of playing with it.

And a tasty little card which I put together before going to work this morning:

My son did ask me what on earth I was doing making a racket with the sewing machine at 7am for, but hey, all in a good cause *ahem*

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Sun Jan 29 2012 07:10 AM

Here's a page I finished off this morning, based on a sketch I found here:

The pictures are of the prototype of a branch of the 'Heron Tree', a gigantic structure under construction in the old docklands of Nantes, with a collection of plants in self-watering suspended gardens, a fantastic project to renovate the island of Nantes. You can also visit the other machines based on Jules Verne's drawings. Wikipedia article here. I already made a layout of the gigantic elephant here (Beauty is not a matter of size), last October.

Maynooth is away overseas for a month on business, and coolcat90 is also away overseas, so I invited my friend to stay for the past weekend and we made cards and scrapbooked from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Made a glorious mess of the dining room but it didn't matter as it was just us two. I rather liked the way these two cards turned out.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Thu Feb 02 2012 04:50 PM

Thank you for your kind comments about the cards. Yes, it was a fun weekend.

I decided to take a leaf out of Sue's book and experiment with photos. I often take photos of flowers when I am travelling so I had some reprints made and used them as the basis for some cards. Here is one photo making two very different cards. I took this photo at The Olga's (near Ayer's Rock). I had them printed at two different places as an experiment - so I know now which photo development service I'll be using in future!

After Sue sent me a card last month, I decided I couldn't part with it, so we put a ribbon on it and it is now a decorative wall hanging smile

It brings some colour into the room! laugh

Good idea Jane! I've kept all Sue's cards too and shown them to some of my card-making friends. So, Sue, if your ears are burning...it's all the compliments you are getting Down Under.

This flower is called "Pink Maiden" and I photographed it in the jungle in Borneo. Again you can see the distinct difference in the quality between the two places where I had them printed.

I played with pencils the other week and did two versions of an apple, this is my second attempt but I am not sure that I don't prefer the first attempt better in some ways. I will show the second on in a link or else the old bat will moan at me! I wasn't happy with the leaf on the first one so left it off the second one.

Here is the first attempt

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Mon Feb 27 2012 12:25 AM

I like the shading more on the first one, and the colors more on the second one. smile

(That didn't help very much, did it?) grin
Posted by: Santana2002

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Mon Feb 27 2012 04:18 AM

I like the leaf on your first one! It gives more depth to the image, but both of them are fantastic anyhow, Sue!

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Wed Feb 29 2012 06:43 PM

This is a card which I made today.

A crafting friend of mine has a day in March demonstrating in John Lewis in Oxford Street, the demonstrations are a particular brand of sewing notions, they are most well known for their threads. She asked some of us crafters to make her some cards using that brand of thread for display to show the diverse cards we can make using them. I have made a number for her so far and this one was today. The card is 8.25 by 8.25 inches so fairly large.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Wed Feb 29 2012 09:26 PM

it's lovely! So elegant! Is that hand stiched or machined?

I got my Mum's sewing machine and it's pretty much brand new. I have to be game enough to use it on paper though. I doubt I'll ever really use it for proper sewing so I might as well just do it smile

Here's one I made last night for a sketch challenge

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Mon Apr 09 2012 08:03 AM

Love it, Jill!!! I've been having a little spending spree on dies recently (went to a huge scrapbooking fair in Paris a fortnight ago, and the wallet is still recovering). I invested in one of those gorgeous doily dies, but it's very difficult to get a good cut from it. I've since placed an order for one of the metal spacer plates (cuttlehug), which hopefully will make things easier, but in the meantime I've been having a ball putting doily cutouts on my cards.

Here's one of my recent favourites (that funnily enough does not show off any of my recent die purchases, just the paper kit):

Edit. I spotted the spelling mistake after taking the photo, and have since removed the extra S.

Are they memory box ones? They seem to do very intricate ones. I have the maddison window dies from them and they are gorgeous.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Wed Apr 11 2012 04:50 AM

It's a 'Cheery Lynn' die, copago, this particular model is the Nautical Wheeler one. I have to admit I'm not really a 'doily' person, but I really love the cutouts that these dies make. They look pretty cool in black or in kraft:

Sue, I love all your crafts, they're so beautiful!
Although it is "only" July, me and Mum have started making our Christmas Cards early this year - for the simple reason, that we might be having some household repairs (rewiring etc) which will seriously disrupt the "craft room" and the craft time spent together! smile We've recently found the "Ideal World" shopping channel which has some good craft goods to buy.

Great cards Jane.

Ideal World and Create and Craft are the same company, Create and Craft is 24/7/365 craft whereas on Ideal World itself they only have a certain number of craft programmes.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Tue Jul 31 2012 04:31 AM

I made a couple of parchment cards using images from a craft CD, it wasn't intended to be for parchment but I thought that I would experiment. Having made a couple of cards I posted them on the forum of the company who produces and markets the CDs. Today I received a message from the artist who lives in America, it was quite a shock. She is a well known artist particularly in the US, her art is on all manner of items.

Quote:
Hi Sue, I loved seeing what you did with my butterflies! thanks so much smile Jane Shasky

This is one of the cards.

haha!
you do all different ones, dont' you?
I usually stick to the one design and make lots of them so it's not really too time consuming coming up with the ideas. For me it seems to take as long to design a card than to make it .. so I tend to make a few if i get on a good thing!

Great cards Jane, and your cat is fab, Sue!
I don't know how you can be so organised as to have your chirstmas cards already prepared! I haven't even thought about them yet!

Here's a romantic card I put together this morning while the rest of the household slept:

I haven't made all my cards yet, I made a load then started on those I give to the Salvation Army.

This year some people might (will) be getting a printed one, one that our local hospice have printed to raise money, I designed it and they gave me three packets. smile

I like that Jill, a great card.

Time for a picture!

I like to make "placemats" for Christmas Day with the family. This year was a simple piece of paper and a "peg" smile

maybe they have put some kind of hook into the tile? Don't know but it is cool!

Great cards, Liz! Sorry to have not seen them earlier.

Here is a card for a friend who I didn't get a Christmas card to! Lots of layers but it's pretty simple.

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Sat Jan 05 2013 05:25 AM

You use copics, don't you, Toni? I've just gotten into markers and am loving them. I chose Promarkers though as they were so much cheaper. (and copic won't let US shops post to Australia so we are forced to pay much higher prices here .. sorry, not playing that game)
i've already coloured about twenty images for Christmas this year :p
Posted by: Santana2002

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Sat Jan 05 2013 06:36 AM

Nope, like you I find the copics too pricey, so I'm a Promarker gal smile I'm building up quite a collection nowadays as I tend to add one or two each time I go to my local arty shop ... to the extent that more than once I've doubled up on a colour already in my collection. I found a nifty printable colour chart where you can colour in the shades you own, which makes it easy to see at a glance what you have and what you don't, and also to choose which colours to use on a particular project. I'll get you the link to it this afternoon if you like...

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Sat Jan 05 2013 06:40 AM

In fact it's here, just click on the pink "Nuancier_vierge_97_2003" to open the file, then print away.

I printed the original one, then a modified one where I removed names of the colours, then coloured in groups of three shades which go well together and handwrote in the colour names. I keep them both back-to-back in a clear plastic pocket so I can see at a glance what I need.
Posted by: Copago

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Sat Jan 05 2013 03:37 PM

ohhhhh ... there's quite a few of them, huh? But I wouldn't use the ten shades of pink so can bring it down there.
I used to smoke and it worked out about $15 a day in smokes and I wouldn't even blink an eye at it so why I am thinking twice about buying a texta is strange. wink

Re: Craft Circle - Photo Gallery 4 - Sat Jan 26 2013 08:48 AM

I belong to a craft forum, as many of you know. There is one section of the forum which many of the members don't go near, it is called FatBooks. What happens is that you make a FatBook page, it has to be 4" square, and normally swap them or give them away.

In order to try to tempt more members to join in that section I offered to make a 'prize' comprising of thirty pages and a folder/book to put them in.

This morning I finished the final page. This is the full set.

Click here to see what the book looks like.

This picture shows the top cover of the book.

Oh that's very pretty, Sue! Like ATCs, I tend to avoid Fat Books, I find it hard to get inspired to make something on such a small support, but you've really gone to town, they look great!

Last week I was asked if I wanted a table at a street festival to be held on 20th and 21st July. They are closing one of the main roads in the centre of town, it runs parallel to the main shopping street and has the main post office. Since it is free I accepted. I will be selling island view cards, the proceeds to be donated to charity, and my necklaces and beaded bits. I am making little boxes for the jewellery, hopefully they might attract people. If they don't want the necklaces perhaps they might buy a box instead! smile

Lynda's latest craft is bead work. I've tried to get her to post in the forum but without success (so far), so I thought I'd post on her behalf to show examples of the necklaces and bracelets she has made. Since the photos need to be quite large in order to show the detail, here they are as a slideshow on Photobucket:

I wish Lynda would write here but she just isn't much of a writer I'm afraid. I can say that she has looked at and admired your necklace Sue. It looks good to me as well ..and I've seen a few necklaces now. smile

There was a bit of a beadwork event here on Monday. Lynda got chatting to one of the ladies who was running a workshop at the Bead Show held at Sandown Racecourse. She agreed to come to our house to hold a beading workshop. Lynda had to get a number of people interested in coming to it. It turned out there were four of them. They shared the cost of paying for the teacher. So, they all sat down beading for the day.

Me? I was the tea boy to start with, hid away a bit later on and then went out on my bike in the afternoon. The worst part is that it went so well, it could happen again! smile
