Guidelines for Quiz Creation
Important: ALL of the following sets of
guidelines are
relevant for the
category you would like to submit to. Please read all of them carefully
and keep them in mind as you develop your quiz. Thanks!
The following sets of guidelines apply to quizzes created in
Geometry.
Guidelines for Geometry
Math quiz questions must not simply be statements like "What is the derivative of cos(X^2)? or "What is the quadratic equation?' or "2x+3= 105. What is X?" All questions must be interesting word problems, not dry equations that could have been copied from a textbook.
This category does not accept any simple math quizzes- quizzes need to be high-school level math and above.

If you want players to be stimulated by your quiz and thus be inspired to learn more about a given subject, your questions must be interesting and not impossible. In general, math problems that sound as if they were copied directly from a textbook are very boring. Many players will simply quit in frustration rather than ever finishing the quiz and actually reading the answers. If, instead of giving them questions on numbers that no one cares to memorize, you ask about interesting facts, you are far more likely to inspire your quiztaker to actually finish the quiz and read the answers- because they care what the answer will be and want to learn more.

Guidelines for Sci / Tech
- Please define terms unfamiliar to the average player in your interesting info. This makes your quiz more interesting to players who may know little about your subject.
- Quizzes must be scientific in nature-- topics like astrology are not accepted. Quizzes on zoology should be submitted in Animals.
- Please do not submit any quizzes on a particular brand of cell phone or any other item which will be outdated within months.
- Please note that numerical answers can cause problems in quizzes, especially in Sci/Tech. To ensure your quiz becomes an enjoyable one, please observe the following rules:
- Except in a maths quiz or one whose topic clearly indicates that the quiz involves calculations, no more than four questions in a ten-question quiz should use numeric answers. You can often come up with more interesting questions by reversing the question: For example, instead of asking "What is the atomic number of gold?", ask "Which ductile, valuable metal has atomic number 79?"
- Numeric questions must be multiple choice unless the answer is a whole number between 0 and 1000.
- If you use numeric answers that represent measurements or constants, do not provide wrong answers too close to the correct one. Unless doing so would result in an implausible number, make sure that your wrong answers are at least 30% off the truth.
- In the science subcategories, please use metric units (SI units if appropriate). You may choose to give values in other unit systems (such as imperial units) in addition. In technology topics, you should use the units preferred by the inventor / manufacturer of the technology in question.
- Single questions ("Question Quest") with a numeric answer are accepted only if the number is a constant, easily recalled figure. Calculations and conversions will NEVER be allowed in single questions.
