Here are some ground rules for submitting a quiz here.
First of all, please play some games in this category before you attempt to write a quiz. Before writing a quiz, check the appropriate subcategory for your quiz. If any quizzes in that subcategory have the same subject as yours, please look them over before writing your quiz, as quizzes with duplicative questions will be rejected.
Please check your spelling, grammar, punctuation and facts BEFORE you submit your quiz. Quizzes with significant errors will be rejected! Do not write in all caps or all lower-case letters, and do not use Internet/chatroom abbreviations anywhere in your quiz. All sentences must start with a capital and end with appropriate punctuation.
Please make sure that all of your answers have a factual basis and aren't personal opinion.
Please remember that personal questions (such as "What is my cat's name?), extremely simple questions (such as "What is H2O?") and filler questions (such as "Did you like this quiz?") are not allowed. In general, numeric questions are highly discouraged- they are often much too picky and are often very boring. For some tips on writing more interesting, non-numeric questions, please see the quizzes "Writing Quiz Questions that Don' Suck" I and II in General-Quizmaker Tuneups.
>Please do not include entertainment-related questions on science quizzes.
Fill-in-the blank questions can have only ONE possible answer, and questions with two or more possibilities will be rejected.
This category requires interesting information for all questions. Personal opinion is not interesting info, nor should the info repeat the question or the answer.
First-time quizwriters are urged to write 10-question quizzes, not longer ones.
Please note that this category does not, in general, allow numerical questions (questions where a number is the answer.)If you want players to be stimulated by your quiz and thus be inspired to learn more about a given subject, your questions must be interesting and not impossible. In general, questions on dates, amounts, etc. are very boring, and not something players will remember- or care if they remember!- once they finish the quiz. Many players will simply quit in frustration rather than ever finishing the quiz and actually reading the answers. If, instead of giving them questions on numbers that no one cares to memorize, you ask about interesting facts, you are far more likely to inspire your quiztaker to actually finish the quiz and read the answers- because they care what the answer will be and want to learn more. NOTE This does not mean that you should write out all numbers as words. It means don't ask any questions about numbers!
Please define terms unfamilar to the average player in your interesting info. This makes your quiz more interesting to players who may know little about your subject.
Please be aware that copying ANY material from any source, online or offline, is plagiarism and is not tolerated. Everything on your quiz MUST be in your own words.
Please submit only one quiz per day to this category.
Quizzes must be scientific in nature-- topics like astrology are not accepted.
Quizzes on zoology should be submitted in Animals.
Astronomy quizzes must contain significantly different questions from those on the quizzes we already have (don't ask about the Great Red Spot of Jupiter, for example).
No quizzes or questions on chemistry that are of the 'match the symbol to the element' or 'given the symbol, name the element' (or vice versa) variety, or quizzes primarily on the Periodic Table, will be accepted.
Quizzes on computers and Internet must contain no duplicative material. Be aware that questions that can and will change with time, like the URLs of various sites, are not allowed. In general, we do not accept quizzes on specific websites- including FunTrivia itself!- for the same reason. Please, no more quizzes on Internet or chatroom abbreviations.
No simple math quizzes will be accepted (no addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, simple geometry, Roman numerals, etc.). In general, math quizzes need to be high-school level or above. They also must not be written like a math test.
Please do not submit any quizzes on a particular brand of cell phone or any other item which will be outdated within months.
No scrambled word quizzes are accepted in this category.
Please do not write or submit a quiz until you have played a few games and are familiar with Quiz Creation Guidelines, and have read Read this first . Link to the Quizzyland editors forum.
