Though there maybe some dispute on the subject, most people agree this British band started the genre known as Heavy Metal, forming in 1969?
Here come the British again. This band forming in 1969, with their first full length album coming out in 1974 called "Rocka Rolla". They invented the Power Metal sound in 1977 with their third album titled "Sin after Sin",
Forming in 1979, originally considered Black Metal, now this band is considered the first Thrash band with their first release entitled "Welcome to Hell".
Though there is some controversy on the topic, this band from Sweden, named after an infamous countess who killed as many as 700 women, and headed by a man named Quorthon, are considered the first true Black Metal band.

Taking a cue from Black Sabbath, this band formed the first Doom Metal band. Forming in 1984 their first release came in 1986 titled "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus".
