Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does the magic tree house take Jack and Annie in this book?

Answer: Paris, France

The magic tree house brings the siblings to Paris, France to find four new magicians. Jack and Annie have to save them from an evil sorcerer who is going to kidnap them and steal the secrets of their magic.
2. How tall is the Eiffel Tower?

Answer: about 1,000 feet

Jack and Annie went on a train tour to see if they could find out who and where the four magicians were. When the train stopped at the Eiffel Tower, the tour guide told them that the tower is nearly 1,000 feet high. Later Jack and Annie find out that the maker of the Eiffel Tower, Gustave Eiffel, is the Magician of Iron.
3. Who was the Magician of Sound?

Answer: Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell was the inventor of the telephone. Jack and Annie realized that Mr. Bell was the Magician of Sound when they heard a girl tell her father that the telephone is magic. She said, "It can send a voice a thousand miles!" It was also the clue that Merlin gave the siblings.
4. What was the name of the person who was telling people about Mr. Thomas Edison's inventions?

Answer: Henri

Henri talked about the phonograph and the incandescent light bulb. He said "When the electricity passes through the thread, it gets very hot. There is no oxygen in it so the fire glows but it does not burn." That's when Jack and Annie realize that Thomas Alva Edison is the Magician of Light.
5. When Jack and Annie came to the Louis Pasteur Institute, why didn't they go in?

Answer: It was closed for the day

When the siblings tried knocking on the door, the night watchman heard them. Jack and Annie asked him if he knew anything about a guy in a black cloak who delivered a message to Dr. Pasteur and he said that Dr. Pasteur was to get to the Eiffel Tower by ten p.m.
6. Dr. Louis Pasteur was which one of the magicians?

Answer: The Magician of the Invisible

Dr. Louis Pasteur was the Magician of Invisible because he studied microbes, tiny germs that we can't see without a microscope. He found cures for diseases at the Louis Pasteur Institute. His quote "Chance favors the prepared mind" is now famous.
7. How much did Annie pay the odd-looking couple to let them borrow their two-seater bicycle?

Answer: nothing

The man told Jack and Annie to put the bike under the arches of the Eiffel Tower when they were done with it. The siblings had to use one of their rhymes to help them get to the Eiffel Tower. They used "spin like a whirlwind" on their bike to fly into the air towards the tower. Later, they thought the odd couple might have been Teddy and Kathleen.
8. How many steps were there for Jack and Annie to climb to get to the top of the Eiffel tower?

Answer: 1,652 steps

The guard of the Eiffel Tower told Jack and Annie that the elevators had been shut down for the day. He told them that they could go up the 1,652 steps if they wanted to. Since the siblings were really determined to get to the top, they decided to climb up the long and winding stairs.
9. What name did Mr. Edison say that the kids could call him by?

Answer: Alva

Mr. Edison was the Magician of Light. He was called the Wizard of Menlo Park, and he invented the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph, and many other things. Alva was his middle name.
10. What was the name of the messenger who gave the four "magicians" invitations?

Answer: Merlin

Before leaving home, Jack and Annie got a letter from Merlin saying an evil sorcerer was after four magicians in the Paris World's Fair. In the end, the siblings find out that those four people were no magicians, and there was no evil sorcerer. The reason Merlin told them a lie was because they wouldn't have been so eager to find these people if they hadn't thought it was an emergency.
