Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Alphabetics was the name of the bonus round on which of the following game shows?

Answer: "Password Plus"

In Alphabetics, the celebrity gave the contestant clues to ten passwords in alphabetical order. The contestant had to guess all 10 passwords in 60 seconds to win the $5,000 prize.
2. Which "Price is Right" game features a mountain climber clad in lederhosen?

Answer: Cliffhangers

Cliffhangers involves a contestant bidding on three prizes. For every dollar away the contestant is to the actual retail value of the prize, the climber (known as Fritz, Hans, and Johann on different versions of "TPIR") climbs one notch up a mountain. If the contestant's three bids are together over $25 away from the actual retail values, poor Fritz falls off the cliff and the contestant loses.
3. Johnny Gilbert provided the "play-by-play" during the final competitive round of which game show?

Answer: "Supermarket Sweep"

Known as "The Sweep", this frantic round saw three teams racing through a supermarket to buy the highest priced groceries they could find. Contestants had as much time as they had earned in previous rounds. The team with the most expensive groceries won the game and went on to play for $5,000.
4. What is the correct chronological sequence of "Family Feud" hosts?

Answer: Richard Dawson, Ray Combs, Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, John O'Hurley

Family Feud began as a spin-off of the Audience Match portion of "Match Game", with regular panelist Richard Dawson moving on to host the Feud. Dawson's new gig created a rift between himself and Match Game host Gene Rayburn, and they refused to speak to each other.
5. Which well known host was the emcee of "Wheel of Fortune" in 1974, before Pat Sajak made it famous?

Answer: Chuck Woolery

Although Woolery did not secure the multi-decade gig on "Wheel of Fortune", he went on to host many other game shows, including "Scrabble", "Love Connection", "Greed" and "Lingo".
6. What was the CORRECT Final Jeopardy question on Ken Jennings's final appearance?

Answer: What is H&R Block?

Ken Jennings, who won 74 games and $2,520,700 on "Jeopardy!", lost to Nancy Zerg when he incorrectly identified the Final Jeopardy question as, "What is FedEx?"
7. Which game show featured this opening tagline: "Today, these three players are after big bucks and high stakes, but they'll have to avoid the Whammy as they play the most exciting game of their lives! From Television City in Hollywood, it's time to..."

Answer: "Press Your Luck"

"Press Your Luck", one of the classic 80s game shows, featured the greedy and relentless whammies, who completely erased a contestant's total if the board was stopped on a Whammy square. The animated whammies came in many varieties, including Elvis Whammy, Alien Whammy, Disco Whammy and Superwhammy.
8. Who never occupied the coveted Center Square on any edition of "Hollywood Squares?"

Answer: Caroline Rhea

Paul Lynde helped make the fledgling Hollywood Squares a hit with his outrageous answers and over-the-top behavior. Brad Garrett and Ellen DeGeneres replaced Whoopi Goldberg as the center square on the 1998-2004 edition.
9. Dumb Dora, Ugly Edna and Old Man Periwinkle were frequent characters on which game show?

Answer: "Match Game"

"Match Game", famous for its celebrity antics and fill-in-the-blank questions, had a recurring cast of characters in their queries who also included Dumb Donald, Dracula, Carl the Cannibal and Tarzan.
10. Before Ian Lygo came along, "Tic-Tac-Dough" champion Thom McKhee held a nearly twenty year record for most appearances on a game show. What was McKhee's profession during his run?

Answer: Naval officer

Naval officer Thom McKhee defeated 46 opponents and amassed $312,700 in cash and prizes. His cash total (a little over $200,000) would equal about $656,000 today. "Tic-Tac-Dough", like modern day "Jeopardy!", allowed contestants to play until they lost.
