Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the first gym leader you encounter?

Answer: Roark

The correct answer is Roark, who is found in the Oreburgh City Mine before you challenge him in his gym. Byron is a later Gym Leader and Roark's father, and Lass Natalie and Youngster Tristan are the first two ordinary trainers you battle in the game, on Route 202.
2. What is the fourth Gym Badge you get in the game?

Answer: Fen Badge

The Fen Badge! It is given out at the Pastoria Gym by Leader Wake. It allows you to use the HM Defog outside of battle, which is useful near Celestic Town and in Mt. Coronet. The design of this badge is based on a lake with two grey reeds around it.
3. Maylene, the Veilstone Gym Leader, trains what type?

Answer: Fighting

Maylene, whose leader title is 'The Barefoot, Fighting Genius!', trains fighting types. Psychic and Fire are both types trained by members of the Sinnoh Elite Four.
4. What is the shipping name if you ship Byron and Candice?

Answer: Clandestineshipping

Galvanicshipping is Byron and Vokner, Fortifyshipping is Byron and Maylene, and Shoalshipping is Byron and Crasher Wake. The name 'Clandestineshipping' comes from the would-be clandestine nature of this relationship, since Candice is quite a lot younger than Byron.
5. If you beat Volkner in battle, what HM move are you then permitted to use in the overworld?

Answer: Waterfall

Flash is a TM, not a HM, so you can use it as soon as you get it, you only have to beat Candice to be able to use Rock Climb, and Dive isn't a HM in Generation IV. Interestingly, Waterfall was originally the signature move of Goldeen and Seaking.
6. If you add together the number of Pokemon used by all the Gym Leaders in Sinnoh, how many Pokemon is that all together?

Answer: Twenty-six

The first six Leaders use three Pokemon each, while the last two use four each. Bit of random GL 'Pokemon' trivia- Candice uses two Pokemon in the same evolutionary family (Snover and Abomasnow) and is the only GL to do so. Also, Gardenia is the only GL in ANY Pokemon game up to Generation V to use one of the two fully evolved Pokemon that can be Level 1 (Roserade- it evolves into its first stage via friendship and its second stage via a Shiny Stone).
7. Once you have collected all the Gym Badges and polish them properly, what scale do they play when tapped in order?

Answer: C Major

The notes are only properly tuned when polished so that sparkles appear though. So you better get out that stylus and put in a little elbow grease!
8. How many of the Sinnoh Gym Leaders use a Pseudo-legendary Pokemon in their team?

Answer: None

A Pseudo-legendary is a Pokemon with base stats of 600, a three-stage evolutionary line and 1,250,00 EXP points when they reach Level 100. Cynthia, the champion, uses one (her Garchomp), but none of the Gym Leaders do. Also, if they stuck to their specialty type, only Roark and Byron could use one- the Rock/Dark Tyranitar and the Steel/Psychic Metagross respectively.
9. In what language is the Glacier Badge a Sinnoh Gym Badge?

Answer: Japanese

Only in Japanese is the Glacier Badge a Sinnoh Badge. In English, this badge (which is the one given out by the Snowpoint Gym Leader Candice) is called the Icicle Badge, to avoid conflict with a badge from another region which is called the Glacier Badge in English (which is called the Ice Badge in Japanese). Confusing, right?
10. How many Pokemon are in the Sinnoh Pokedex (NOT the National Dex)?

Answer: 151

Tying in with the original Pokedex, there are 151 Pokemon in the Sinnoh Dex! If you picked 210, that's understandable- that's the amount of Pokemon in the 'Pokemon Platinum' Pokedex. The others are completely random, though.
