1. Who was vice-president when the armistice was signed ending American involvement in the Korean conflict? Dwight Eisenhower was the president.

Answer: Richard Nixon

Following his election in November 1952, Eisenhower visited Korea to explore possible solutions to ending the conflict. The armistice was signed on July 27, 1953 after Eisenhower took office. Nixon would go on to run against John Kennedy after Eisenhower's term was up. He would lose a very close election but would go on to win the office in 1968.
2. Who was US vice-president when the first Academy Awards ceremony was held? Herbert Hoover was the president.

Answer: Charles Curtis

The very first Academy Awards were given out at a private dinner on May 16, 1929 during Herbert Hoover's first year in office. Prior to becoming Hoover's running mate Charles Curtis had served in both houses of Congress. But his biggest claim to fame was that he was the first person of significant Native American ancestry to hold one of the two highest offices in the United States as his mother was one-fourth Kaw Indian.
3. Who was US vice-president when the American version of the reality TV show "Survivor" premiered? Bill Clinton was president.

Answer: Al Gore

The first episode of the American version of "Survivor" aired on May 31, 2000 on CBS. Bill Clinton was in the final year of his second term as president. Vice-President Gore would go on to make an unsuccessful run for the office, losing a close election to George W. Bush. He has since become a strong proponent of awareness of the issues around global climate change,

The Beatles made their first live American television appearance on February 9, 1964. Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as president on November 22, 1963 after the assassination of President John Kennedy. Since Johnson had been vice-president under Kennedy that office was vacant until the 1964 election when Johnson chose Hubert Humphrey as his running mate and was re-elected for a full term. Symington and Jackson were both prominent Democratic senators who had made unsuccessful runs at the Democratic presidential nomination.

Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain accomplished this amazing feat on March 2, 1962 while playing for the Philadelphia Warriors against the New York Knicks. The game took place in Hershey, Pennsylvania. John Kennedy was in his second year as president of the United States. Lyndon Johnson would assume the highest office after the tragic assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963.

The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912. James Sherman served as vice-president under William Howard Taft until his death on 30 October 1912, leaving the office vacant until the next inauguration.

Answer: Nelson Rockefeller

Ford took office after Richard Nixon's resignation. He nominated Nelson Rockefeller to fill the vice-presidency which was vacated by Ford. It wasn't a popular decision with the more conservative wing of the Republican Party, but Rockefeller was finally approved by Congress. As for "Saturday Night Live" it premiered on October 11, 1975 with George Carlin as the host.

Elvis died on August 16, 1977 during the first year of Jimmy Carter's presidency. Walter Mondale had been a United States Senator from Minnesota when Carter named him as his running mate. Mondale ran for president himself in 1984, losing to incumbent president Ronald Reagan.
