MISSINGNO. is shaped like a backwards L. The reason is that MISSINGNO. has an invalid value for its fontsprite size (8x8 tiles, while only 5x5, 6x6, 7x7 are valid). This randomly causes it to have the shape it has.

There are a total of thirty-nine instances of MISSINGNO., which suggest that a total of 190 different Pokemon were once planned to appear in the games. The Index Numbers of MISSINGNO. are scattered between those of real Pokemon, reinforcing the thirty-nine additional Pokemon theory.

All thirty-nine MISSINGNO are intentionally programmed to have a Pok�dex Entry or 000. Having a Pok�dex Number outside the valid range of 001 to 151 causes MISSINGNO. to feature incoherent or glitched qualities, like sprite and stats.

Whenever a Pokemon is seen or caught the game makes the corresponding change in the memory, with the position affected being determined by the Pok�dex Number of the Pokemon. This way the Pok�dex can display the Pokemon as seen or caught accordingly. Since MISSINGNO. has an invalid Pok�dex Number and the game isn't prepared to handle that, seeing MISSINGNO. ends up affecting the part of the memory that determines the sixth item quantity.

Answer: Bird

Bird is a type that, while programmed into the game, it's not used by any real Pokemon and has no weaknesses, resistances, or immunities. A theory is that the Bird type could be a prototype version of the existing Flying type. MISSINGNO. was not programmed to be a Bird type intentionally though.

Answer: Water Gun

Although it's not possible to learn the same move twice by leveling up, MISSINGNO. is an exception because the two Water Gun are defined as basic moves. Like we just saw with the typing, MISSINGNO.'s basic moves were not programmed intentionally either.

MISSINGNO.'s Base Attack is 136, surpassing Dragonite, which has the highest among real Pokemon with 134. However, MISSINGNO.'s other stats are incredibly weak:

The data that determines some of the qualities that most stand out about MISSINGNO. is taken from the parties of a few trainers, more specifically, Bikers. This occurs because MISSINGNO.'s invalid Pokedex Number of 000 happens to randomly lead to the part where data of their Pokemon is stored in the memory.

For example, MISSINGNO. is part Bird-type just because the second Pokemon of one specific Biker is Voltorb, whose Index Number is 6. 6 happens to be the Index Number of the type Bird as well.

It is believed that the last three MISSINGNO. were assigned these three sprites so that the game can access them more quickly when needed. Ghost appears in the Pokemon Tower of Lavender Town while the Kabutops and Aerodactyl fossils are shown in the museum of Pewter City (but no Omastar fossil is shown).

10. Into which Pokemon does MISSINGNO. evolve?

Answer: MISSINGNO. does not evolve

MISSINGNO. was purposely programmed not to evolve. However MISSINGNO. is often mistaken with 'M, which does evolve into Kangaskhan at any level and into Clefable at level 128. However, MISSINGNO. and 'M are completely different Pokemon because MISSINGNO. was programmed into the games to some extent as a placeholder. On the other hand, 'M is merely a Glitch or Garbage Pokemon, with an invalid Index Number.

However, 'M happens to share the Pokedex Number of 000 with MISSINGNO. by chance, and thus shares most qualities with it (sprite, typing, stats, basic moves...).

This makes MISSINGNO. and 'M very similar in appearance.
