Josh was born in San Francisco in July of 1978. His folks uprooted the family, though, and moved to a completely different climate - St. Paul, Minnesota. During high school, Josh enjoyed a typical teenage lifestyle, playing for the football team and taking odd jobs to pay for gas. An accident forced him off the team, and into the theatre - the high school's theatre program. This handsome star took a crack at college, enrolling at the New York SUNY-Purchase after graduation, but soon left after receiving a role on the television series 'Cracker'. Unfortunately, Cracker wasn't much of a hit. Already committed to being an actor, Josh began working in local theatre productions and taking up the occasional commercial. He finally struck it big in 1998 with a role in the sixth Halloween film in the series: 'Halloween H20: 20 Years Later'. The film came at the peak of the teen horror craze ('Scream', 'I Know What You Did Last Summer') and propelled Josh's career. Josh had auditioned an unprecedented six times for a role on the teen sitcom, but was never given a role. Figuring that the success of one horror film might just lead to the success of another, Josh signed on for 'The Faculty', an interesting, although somewhat misguided attempt at horror. Josh, however, didn't want to be typecast in the mainstream, but character-less role of horror flick leading guy, so he took a number of roles in low-budget, independent films, including a role in 'The Virgin Suicides', where he offered his best performance yet. He was able to display a versatility that helped land him his biggest picture yet, the Jerry Bruckheimer mega-film 'Pearl Harbor'. The film received critical pans across the country, but faired incredibly well at the box office, shattering records and placing Hartnett at the top of the heap. by Jeremy Falcone at celebs.absolutenow.com
