trivia question Quick Question
A standard game of Munchkin ends when the first player reaches which level?

From Quiz "A Munchkin's Guide to Munchkin"

Munchkin Trivia Questions

1. Which Steed gives the biggest inherent Bonus?

From Quiz
Munchkin 4: The Need For Steed

Answer: Dragon Steed

While the Dragon Steed has an inherent +5 Bonus from the get-go, it is not affected by any enhancement cards you choose to play on it unless, of course, you happen to cheat your way through using it. This Steed is worth 1,000 Gold Pieces and is thus worth a level if you decide to sell it. He also gives +1 to Run Away. The other Steeds have less and less inherent Bonus but can be upgraded more. Big Joe has +2, the Giant Mutant Gerbil Steed has +3, and the Mighty Warhorse has +2.

2. Which new Class is added to the game in "Munchkin Booty 2: Jump the Shark"?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty 2: Jump the Shark

Answer: Explorer

The Explorer Class gives you the ability to draw a Treasure card after helping someone kill a monster. This Class also allows you to discard a card from your hand, then take one of your cards out of play and put it back in your hand.

3. There are four phases to every turn. What is the first phase called?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty

Answer: Kick Open the Door

After arranging your cards at the beginning of your turn, you proceed to phase one called "Kick Open the Door". You draw a card from the Door deck of cards to see what you get. If it's a monster, you fight it. Curses apply to you immediately and any other cards can be played or kept in your hand.

4. The expansion's namesake, the Unnatural Axe, is only usable by which class (without a Cheat card)?

From Quiz Munchkin 2: Unnatural Axe

Answer: Warrior

The Unnatural Axe is a relatively strong weapon-- mostly because it's a big item. It also happens to be one-handed, so players can still handle a second weapon. The Cheat card allows the player to carry more than one big weapon, even if it happens to be on the wrong class character. The weapon can be sold for 800 Gold Pieces and it gives a +5 Bonus in battle. The Unnatural Axe is the only Warrior-exclusive weapon in this expansion.

5. Only one Class card can immediately win ties in combat. Which one is it?

From Quiz Munchkin

Answer: Warrior

The Warrior is one of only four original Classes; there are twelve total Class cards in the original game. Players can have one Class at a time unless they also happen to be a Super Munchkin, in which case they can have two at the same time. The Warrior, aside from winning all ties in battle (even if added into another player's combat) has the ability to Berserk. This means that the Warrior player can discard cards (to a maximum of three) to get one extra bonus damage against enemies (one per card discarded, that is).

6. Who designed the Munchkin card game?

From Quiz A Munchkin's Guide to Munchkin

Answer: Steve Jackson

Like it says on the lid of the Munchkin box! Steve Jackson is the founder of Steve Jackson games - and also the designer of GURPS, the Generic Universal Role-playing System. He is not to be confused the other game designing Steve Jackson, the British co-founder of Games Workshop.

7. The monster, Lawyers, will not attack any player with which Class?

From Quiz "Munchkin" - Classes and Races

Answer: Thief

Lawyers is a Level 6 monster worth two Treasures if beaten. According to the card, Lawyers "will not attack a Thief (professional courtesy)". Any Thief who faces the Lawyers can choose to discard two Treasures and draw two new ones. Any players who lose to the Lawyers must let all other players draw one card from their hand and then they must discard any remaining cards.

8. Although this Steed has the lowest Bonus, it can run from battle automatically. What is it?

From Quiz Munchkin 4: The Need For Steed

Answer: Chicken Steed

The Chicken Steed only has a +1 Bonus and is, because of this, the weakest of the Steeds added in this expansion. The Turtle Steed, Eagle Steed, and Wolf Steed all have a +2 Bonus. Despite being the weakest Steed, the Chicken Steed, at a cost of 300 Gold, can run away from battles at any time (but is still subject to cards working against it to keep the rider in battle). The Eagle Steed is a speedy one anyways; it has a +2 to Run Away if you use it.

9. Some monsters, like the Oyster Bunny, have a combat penalty when fighting against munchkins that are real-life members of what?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty 2: Jump the Shark

Answer: U.S. Armed Forces

These bonuses for members of the four main branches of the Armed Forces are given to current members, former members, and members of the reserves. If someone playing is a member of a uniformed service that isn't one of he four main branches, they start the game with an extra level. The rules also account for players from other countries by saying, "If ye be pirates from another land, we encourage ye to house-rule the cards to honor yer own servicemen." St. Elmo's Fire gets a -4 penalty against Marines, the Oyster Bunny against the Army, the Flying Fish against the Air Force, and Barnacle Bill against the Navy.

10. Which class has the Turning ability during combat?

From Quiz Munchkin

Answer: Cleric

The Cleric is a healer-type Class which, like the other Class options, can wield specific weapons and has bonuses against particular enemies. There are, however, additional bonuses to be found with the Cleric. For example, the Cleric has the Turning ability with which they can gain a maximum nine bonus damage against undead enemies (three damage per discard). The Cleric also has the Resurrection spell with which they can take the top card(s) from the discard pile and dispose of a card in their hand rather than draw from the main decks face-up.

11. In Munchkin, what does every player begin the game as?

From Quiz A Munchkin's Guide to Munchkin

Answer: A first level human with no class

"Everyone starts as a Level 1 human with no class (Heh, heh)" is exactly what it says in the basic Munchkin rules.

12. When facing the Wannabe Vampire, which Class can simply chase him away by saying "booga booga"?

From Quiz "Munchkin" - Classes and Races

Answer: Cleric

A Cleric can choose to fight the Wannabe Vampire, a Level 12 monster, but if the Cleric chooses to chase him away, then that player gets to keep his Treasures, but does not gain a level. The Wannabe Vampire is worth three Treasures when defeated, but the Bad Stuff for losing to him causes a player to lose three levels.

13. Which Hireling card, according to its description, is WORTHLESS?

From Quiz Munchkin 4: The Need For Steed

Answer: Budget Hireling

The budget Hireling isn't 100% worthless though it's well on its way there. With no Gold Value, no Bonus in battle, and no real use in play, the Budget Hireling is likely best kept in your hand for any situations that require you to discard cards to escape battle or perform an action. Otherwise, the Budget Hireling is dead weight, especially since all other Hirelings added via this expansion have some sort of Bonus to assist with. The other three options are all Hirelings with +1 Bonuses, and thus, have more apparent worth than the Budget Hireling.

14. The Hagfish is a Level 9 monster that gets a +5 bonus against whom?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty 2: Jump the Shark

Answer: Males

The Hagfish is depicted with glasses, gray hair, missing teeth, and a rolling pin. If you lose to her, she gives you the Smooch of Death. You must then go through the Door deck until you find a Curse that affects you. If you get to the bottom of the deck without being cursed, then you're safe! Unfortunately, you can't use Wishing Rings to avoid the Curse.

15. Which card allows a player to have more than one Class?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty

Answer: Super Munchkin

Every player's character can have one Class and one Accent in play, unless they get special cards to allow you to have more than one at a time. The Bilingual card allows you to have two Accents, while the Super Munckin card lets you have two Classes. There are benefits to having more than one Class since each Class has different bonuses, but if you choose to have more than one Class you also get all the disadvantages of the two Classes. You may choose to have only one Class with the Super Munchkin card. This lets you keep the advantages for that Class and ignore the disadvantages.

16. Curse! You are now in possession of a Hungry Backpack. How do you choose which cards to discard?

From Quiz Munchkin 3: Clerical Errors

Answer: You don't; the player to your left does

The Hungry Backpack could be a real game-clincher should you happen to come across it. If you receive the Hungry Backpack, at the end of your turn, you will need to roll the die to see how many cards will be eaten (discarded). If you roll 1 through 5, the player to your left will need to pull that many cards from your hand. If you happen to remove the curse by any regular method, by all means do. You can, however, end up rolling a 6 during the all-important roll and end up watching the backpack devour itself, which, although oddly graphic, is also quite rewarding to know can happen.

17. According to the rules, how should the players determine who plays first in Munchkin?

From Quiz A Munchkin's Guide to Munchkin

Answer: You roll the die and argue about the results

While rolling the die and taking the highest is the commonest way to decide who goes first, it really is up to the players. You are supposed to roll that die, though.

18. The Swiss Army Polearm and the Bad-Ass Bandana are only usable by which Race?

From Quiz "Munchkin" - Classes and Races

Answer: Humans

A player is considered Human if they do not have any other Race card in play. The Bad-Ass Bandana is an Item worth 400 Gold Pieces. It is considered Headgear and awards a +3 combat bonus. The Swiss Army Polearm is a Big, 2 Hands Item worth 600 Gold Pieces and a +4 bonus.

19. What item can you NOT use if you are currently using the Fearsome Tattoos card?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty 2: Jump the Shark

Answer: Armor

The Fearsome Tattoos card counts as your Armor. The reason the card gives for not being able to wear other Armor is that the tattoos' "protective effect comes from their fearsomeness, so ye must not hide them!" The Tattoos are worth 300 Gold Pieces and give a +2 combat bonus.

20. Monsters have different levels, but there are also special types of monsters. Which type of monster is the Sea Lawyer?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty

Answer: Shark

Sharks can join any combat another Shark is involved in without the use of a Wandering Monster card. The Sea Lawyer is a Level 10 Shark, but loses two levels against anyone with a British Accent. If you lose a fight to the Sea Lawyer, then you get the top Curse in the discard pile. If that Curse doesn't apply to you, you lose a level. The good news is that if there is no Curse in the pile, then you get away on a technicality!

21. Curse! You've been afflicted with a severe case of Generosity! What must you give to the other players?

From Quiz Munchkin 2: Unnatural Axe

Answer: Your cards

The Generosity curse is unique in that it's actually quite charitable when all is said and done. If this curse card is played on you, you'll need to give each player (in whatever order you choose) treasures. This must begin with the items you have in play and then be followed by those in your hand. If you run out, they can take two door cards instead until those run out as well. Your levels and active race and class cards remain in play.

22. Up to how many cards can you have in your hand if you are a Dwarf?

From Quiz Munchkin

Answer: Six

Dwarves are yet another of the three Races of the game (the others being Elf and Halfling). As a Dwarf you are capable of carrying multiple Big Items (while others can only carry one). These are often two-handed yet more powerful than single-handed, smaller items. Dwarves also have higher card-carrying capacities; they can carry six at any given time while regular players can only handle five. If a player has too many cards, they must give one to the lowest-level player and discard the rest. If they are the lowest level, they simply discard the proper amount.

23. How many cards of each type are dealt to each player at the start of a game of Munchkin?

From Quiz A Munchkin's Guide to Munchkin

Answer: Two doors and two treasures

You get the same deal if and when you "die".

24. The Undead Horse and 3,872 Orcs may not seem to have much in common, but both monsters are at an advantage when fighting which Race?

From Quiz "Munchkin" - Classes and Races

Answer: Dwarves

Why the Undead Horse gets a +5 bonus against Dwarves is unknown, but the 3,872 Orcs get their +6 advantage "due to ancient grudges". The Undead Horse is a Level 4 monster worth two Treasures. Losing to the Undead Horse means losing two levels. The 3,872 Orcs are Level 10 and worth three Treasures. Losing to the 3,872 has serious consequences. Players roll a die. A roll of two or less means death, while a roll of more than two means players lose the same amount of levels as the number shown on the die.

25. The Jump the Shark card is a one-shot card playable during any combat. It eliminates which monsters from the fight?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty 2: Jump the Shark

Answer: Sharks

You can use this card to get rid of all Sharks in the fight; however, you don't get to go up a level or get Treasure. If there are other monsters in the fight, you have to fight them; otherwise, the fight is over.

26. Which weapon normally gives you a +1 bonus, but gives you +4 when going up against any foe with "beard" in its name?

From Quiz Munchkin Booty

Answer: Razor

What better weapon for a bearded opponent than the Razor! Unfortunately, the Razor cannot be used by anyone with a Spanish Accent. It occupies one hand and is worth 300 Gold Pieces if traded.

27. What card instantly removes a card of your choice from the entire game?

From Quiz Munchkin 2: Unnatural Axe

Answer: Annihilation

Annihilation may be one of the most powerful cards in the game and, unsurprisingly, there's only one. It doesn't matter when -- during battle or even off your own turn -- the card will instantly remove another card from the game. The only restriction is that the card must be in play at the time of use; Annihilation can not remove cards from a player's hand or the decks. While the annihilated card is put back in the box, the Annihilation card proper goes into the discards where, if you're lucky, it can be retrieved.

28. The Super Munchkin card allows a player to posses two Classes. What card allows for a player to have two Races?

From Quiz Munchkin

Answer: Half-Breed

The Half-Breed card allows a player, provided they have more than one Race card to put into play, to make use of both different races, taking on the perks and disadvantages of both in battle. This may also allow a player to use Race-specific weapons that would normally be unusable (without a Cheat card). If a player only has one Race card, they can become a Half-Race until they have a second card. This entitles them to have all of the perks of that single Race without any of the disadvantages. For example, you can use that Race's weapons without taking extra damage from certain enemies. Losing your Race will cause you to lose the entire set of Races attached to your character.

29. What is the first action taken by a player in a round of Munchkin?

From Quiz A Munchkin's Guide to Munchkin

Answer: Turn over a door card face up

If there is a monster behind a face up door, then the player must fight the monster. If there isn't they get to search the room, drawing a face down door card. Or they can "look for trouble" and choose to fight a monster from their hand.

30. The Divine Intervention card is a special card that must be played immediately and grants a level to all players of which Class?

From Quiz "Munchkin" - Classes and Races

Answer: Cleric

The Divine Intervention card instructs players to play the card immediately. All Clerics gain a level when the card is played. Under normal circumstances, a player can only reach Level 10 and win the game by killing a monster; however, Divine Intervention is one of the few cards that allow a player to reach Level 10 without killing a monster. According to the card, any players who win the game this way "are entitled to mock the other players mercilessly".
