1. Why couldn't Steven come to the door right away when Chip came to install his cable?

Chip Douglas was a deranged cable installer and Steven was his client. Steven moved into his own apartment in the beginning of the movie after being kicked out of his girlfriend's house. Chip tried way too hard to make friends with Steven and often went to bizarre extremes. Chip was played by Jim Carrey and Steven was played by Matthew Broderick, who previously starred in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".

The cartoon was on only briefly, but both the audio and visual components made it easily identifiable as "Ren and Stimpy". You could see it in back of Jim Carrey when he was cooking breakfast. "Ren and Stimpy" was a classic cartoon that aired in the early 1990s. It was about an oddly drawn cat and hound and featured very gross jokes.

This took place in one of the first few opening scenes. This line was funny, because in a typical situation, a murder story would follow Jim Carrey's line of "never thought they'd get the floors clean after what happened."

Chip was previously fired from several cable companies and was using a variety of aliases. In fact, Chip Douglas was originally one of the boys on "My Three Sons".
