World Series and Postseason Games

From 1884-1890, the league champions from the National League and the American Association played off in the Championship of the United States. The World Series between the American and National Leagues was first held in 1903. In 1969, each league had a championship playoff series to decide who would represent their league in the World Series. In 1981, the playoffs went deeper into each league having a divisional playoff in addition to the league championship series. Each league's winner would face each other in the World Series.
