1963-1975, 12 years at the top -- www.geocities.com/twelveatthetop

Leeds United were formed in 1920 from the ashes of Leeds City. They began in Division 2 and didn't really establish themselves in the top division until the 1960s, following the appointment of Don Revie as manager in 1961. Leeds were promoted to Division 1 in 1964 and they finished runners-up in their first two seasons. The first championship came in 1969 (a year after they'd had won both the League Cup and Fairs Cup) and began Leeds United's most successful period as they finished in the top three for six successive seasons, winning the championship again in 1974. They also reached the FA Cup final three times (1970, 1972 and 1973), winning once (1972 against Arsenal) and won the Fairs Cup again in 1971. Don Revie departed to take over the national team after their 1974 triumph and Leeds began a decline which saw them spend most of the 1980s in Division 2. Within 2 years of Howard Wilkinson's arrival in 1988 they were back in Division 1. They were crowned League Champions for the 3rd time in 1992, the last season before the formation of the FA Premier League. So Leeds claim to fame is: they won the last Fairs Cup, they won the Centenary FA Cup Final, and they won "last" Football League Championship!
