Golden State Warriors Trivia Questions

1. In May 2014, the Warriors appointed Steve Kerr as their new head coach. Prior to this, star point guard Stephen Curry was a starter in the 2014 NBA All-Star Game. Who had been the last Warriors player to achieve this?

From Quiz
Dynasty in Focus: Golden State Warriors 2014-19

Answer: Latrell Sprewell

Curry was the first Warriors player to start in the NBA All-Star Game since Sprewell did so in 1995. Sprewell was also in the 1996 and 1997 games, but did not start either. Lee was a Warriors player when he participated in the 2013 NBA All-Star Game but he was not a starter. Mullin was a Warriors player between 1985 and 1997, and was nominated to five consecutive All-Star games between 1989 and 1993. Hardaway played in the 1991, 1992 and 1993 games while he was a Warriors player.

2. In the 2015 playoffs, Steph Curry broke the record for most three-pointers in a single postseason. Whose record did he break?

From Quiz Dynasty in Focus: Golden State Warriors 2014-19

Answer: Reggie Miller

Miller shot 58 three point shots in the 2000 NBA Playoffs. Allen came close to this on a number of occasions, scoring 57 in 2001, 56 in 2010 and 55 in 2008. Green also came close, registering 55 threes in the 2013 NBA Playoffs. George hit 52 threes in the 2014 postseason. Curry had 98 in the 2015 postseason, obliterating Miller's record. The growth of the three point play in the NBA, partially helped by the Warriors dynasty, has seen Miller's 58 threes dip in the leader board. By 2019, his efforts in 2000 were no longer in the top 10.

3. Which former Warrior once scored 29 points in the fourth quarter of a playoff game against the Los Angeles Lakers?

From Quiz Golden State Warriors

Answer: Sleepy Floyd

After dropping two games to the Utah Jazz in the first round of the 1986-87 playoffs, the Warriors grabbed the next three to become the first team since 1956 to come back from a two-game deficit in a five-game series. In the conference semifinals the Warriors lost to the eventual NBA-champion Lakers in five games, despite 51 points from Floyd in Game 4 (29 in the fourth quarter).

4. Steph Curry was named as the NBA MVP for a second consecutive season in 2015-16. Who finished second in the voting?

From Quiz Dynasty in Focus: Golden State Warriors 2014-19

Answer: Kawhi Leonard

Curry had an incredible 2015-16 season, breaking the record for the amount of three pointers made in a season with 402, including making twelve threes in a single game. As a result, he came first in all 131 MVP ballots, making him the first unanimous MVP in NBA history. Leonard came second with 634 total points, edging out James who scored 631 points. Westbrook scored 486 points while his Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Durant, who would join the Warriors in the following off-season, came fifth with 147 points.

5. Who was the youngest member of the Warriors' 2017-18 roster?

From Quiz Dynasty in Focus: Golden State Warriors 2014-19

Answer: Kevon Looney

Athough Looney was the first of these players to be drafted into the NBA, going 30th overall to the Warriors in 2015, he was actually born in February 1996. Jones and McCaw were drafted in 2016, taken with the 30th and 38th picks respectively. Jones was born in June 1995 while McCaw was born in October 1995. Bell, born in January 1995, went with the 38th pick in 2017. As a side note, Bell was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks while the Chicago Bulls drafted McCaw.

6. Which player featured in the most regular season games for the Warriors in the 2017-18 season?

From Quiz Dynasty in Focus: Golden State Warriors 2014-19

Answer: Nick Young

Young featured in 80 of the team's games, although only eight of these were starts. West and Thompson both played 73 times, tied for second most appearances on the team. Durant made 68 appearances, the seventh most on the team. Thompson did however make the most starts on the team with 73. Draymond Green was second with 70 and Durant was third with 68.

7. Kevin Durant won NBA Finals MVP in 2017 and 2018 after helping the Warriors win both Finals series. Before Durant, how many players had won multiple Finals MVPs with a team that had not drafted them?

From Quiz Dynasty in Focus: Golden State Warriors 2014-19

Answer: 3

Shaquille O'Neal was the first, winning NBA Finals MVP with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000, 2001 and 2002 after being drafted by the Orlando Magic in 1992. Kobe Bryant, who was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets then almost immediately traded to the Lakers, won finals MVP in 2009 and 2010. LeBron James was the third, achieving the feat with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013. Others, such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1985 with the Lakers) and Wilt Chamberlain (1972 with the Lakers) had won Finals MVPs with teams that did not draft them.
