The joint venture experiment between North Sydney and Manly-Warringah lasted for 2 seasons (2000 and 2001), after which the licence reverted solely to the Manly-Warringah club. North Sydney initially objected to their continued use of the name Northern Eagles, but dropped that action before the commencement of the 2002 season. In 2003 the Manly club dropped the Northern Eagles name and reverted to their original title.
