Answer: Mexico City

The first leg of the race sent teams to Mexico City for a night and early morning of tasks in and around the nation's capital. Arriving at the Monumento a la Revolución, teams picked up a Detour task asking them to choose between 'Mariachi Madness' and 'Great Bulls of Fire'. In the former task, completed quicker, teams had to search a group performance of three hundred mariachis for one of a handful not playing the same song a the others while in the latter, which required more time, teams had to create a torito atop a parking garage and load it with fireworks to get their next clue.

Answer: Shenzhen

Leaving Bali, Indonesia early in the morning, the final four teams ripped open their clue envelopes and rushed to the airport to book flights heading two thousand miles north to the city of Shenzhen, China. All four teams had the same flight into China and didn't need to look much further than the departure hall of Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport for their next clue box. Confusingly, teams were told, from here, to travel by bus and train to the Eiffel Tower to find their next clue.

Teams left the sixth Pit Stop virtually as soon as they arrived, being handed a clue and told to commence the seventh leg without formal rest. This meant that teams needed to hitch a ride back into Yerevan, Armenia's capital, and head to the train station to catch a midnight train to the nation of Georgia. When teams disembarked they could make their way to the statue of St. George in Freedom Square in Georgia's capital, Tbilisi. From here, teams needed to head up through the city to Narikala Fortress and then take a gondola down to the riverside.

Answer: Catacombs

Beginning Leg 3 in Plaza Bolívar in Cartagena, Colombia, teams proceeded on foot to Plaza San Diego to find their first clue. From here, teams could travel by any means to the fortress known as Castillo San Felipe de Barajas. It commenced a day of tough searches as upon their arrival, teams needed to ascend the steps to the top of the fort and then descend into its claustrophobic catacombs in search of their next clue box.

Heading to Cartagena, Colombia in Leg 2, teams ended off the leg with a beachside Detour where they opted to either construct a shelter or cook for a local party. In 'Pop-Up', teams used rudimentary materials to create a shaded structure in the sand while in 'Parilla', teams made three fish dishes to be served at the same party. There was a nearly-even distribution between the tasks with most front-runners taking 'Pop-Up' and most at the back of the pack choosing to cook. Following this, all teams headed to the Pit Stop.

Answer: Sheri and Cole

Once teams took the gondola ride down to Rike Park and the Mtkvari River, they could hop into another cab and visit the Jvari Monastery in Mtskheta to find their next cluebox waiting for them, this one containing the leg's Detour challenge. If teams opted to take the 'Clean' Detour option, they would find themselves engrossed in Georgia's winemaking industry. For this, they needed to visit Iago's Wine in Chardakhi, Georgia and hop into a clay pot known as a kvevri, known for holding and fermenting wine, and clean it out. Sheri and Cole alone went for this one though Dana and Matt and Tyler and Korey headed to this one later on.

Arriving in Mexico City at night, teams found Phil at their first landmark and collected a Detour clue. For this, teams chose either 'Mariachi Madness' or 'Great Bulls of Fire'. In 'Mariachi Madness', teams raced on foot to Plaza Garibaldi to find three hundred and fifty mariachi players. Searching through the group, they needed to find the one mariachi amongst the bunch who was faking playing the same tune as the others, then bring them to a nearby plaza to get their next clue. Brodie and Kurt, Erin and Joslyn, Dana and Matt, Zach and Rachel, and Sheri and Cole completed this task.

Reaching the Palace of Nations on the grounds of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, one member of each team needed to get acquainted with the flags of the world by using a provided map and locating those belonging to the ten founding members of the United Nations-- Belarus, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, India, Liberia, The Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Turkey, and Uruguay-- and providing copies of those flags to the judge. Korey, Kurt, Burnie, Cole, Matt, Rachel, Blair, and Jessica were selected for this challenge.

Teams immersed themselves in typical Cartagena activities in Leg 3, embarking on either 'Tickets' or 'Tejo' for their Detour. In 'Tickets', three of the teams hopped aboard a Cartagena bus to take fares for local transit riders. When they collected 20,000 pesos they could continue racing. In 'Tejo', teams instead headed to a local restaurant to play a Colombian game of cornhole, tossing heavy discs at gunpowder-loaded targets. If they hit three loaded targets and caused them to explode, they could receive their next clue.

Answer: Sheri and Cole

Once teams left the Window of the World they needed to take the subway to Lychee Park and find the Moon Bridge to start their Detour. Teams attempting 'Commuter Cycle' needed to change into suits and join the local commuters by learning how to travel via self-balancing electric unicycles. Holding a briefcase containing their next clue in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, they needed to successfully complete a course while avoiding touching the ground in order to continue racing. Only Sheri and Cole completed this task.

Answer: Burnie and Ashley

If teams didn't want to scale the cliffs of Mont Blanc they instead had the opportunity to hunker down. In 'Campsite', teams headed to a marked plateau where, using a marked example, they had to create a mountain campsite nestled in the snow, properly pitching their tent and accompanying equipment to the approval of a local mountaineer. Only Burnie and Ashley attempted this task which, to their disappointment, took much longer than the other at their exhausting altitude.

Answer: Tyler and Korey

Teams not opting to be ticket-takers instead completed 'Tejo', which sent them to a Cartagena restaurant for some fun. For this task, teams needed to play a local game of Tejo for which they tossed three-pound metal discs (underhand) at a series of gunpowder-loaded clay targets in the national pastime. If they could hit a combined total of three targets they would be handed their next clue. While Zach and Rachel, Scott and Blair, and Erin and Joslyn completed 'Tickets', all other teams completed 'Tejo'.

In Geneva, Switzerland, teams had the choice between 'Work Bench' and 'Bench Work'. The former task involved creating an authentic Swiss Army Knife, and for that, teams headed to the Victorinox store to use instructions and machines to create their work. Due to limited amounts of machines, only three teams could attempt this task at a time. Fortunately, only Tyler and Korey, Zach and Rachel, and Scott and Blair attempted this task anyways. All of the other teams determined how many people could sit on the long bench at Promenade de la Treille (it was between 190-197) for 'Bench Work'.

Answer: Paragliding

Completing their Detour task, teams descended the mountain they were on and returned to their waiting vehicles. Their climbing days weren't over, however, as they then had to head across Chamonix to Planpraz Gondola Station to find their next clue box. Here, one member of each team embarked on their Road Block task, putting the wind beneath their wings as they ascended to the top of Aiguilles Rouges and paragliding over the Alps. Launching at more than 7,000 feet up, participants tandem glided to the landing spot while looking out for a yeti along the way. If they could answer a question about the yeti (and the flag he waved) they would receive their next clue. Brodie, Korey, Matt, Rachel, Blair, Erin, Ashley, and Sheri were selected for this task.

Answer: A bag

After their Detour, teams headed to the streets outside the Museo Naval del Caribe to find a mochila vendor and their Road Block task, requiring one team member to be left holding the bag. For this, the participating teammates had to grab a mochila from the vendor and then search the marketplace at Calle San Juan de Dios for two matching packs that could be traded back to the original vendor for their next clue. Kurt, Tyler, Ashley, Dana, Jessica, Cole, Erin, Darius, Scott, and Zach completed this task.

Answer: Sheri

Heading out into the Armenian countryside on a highway near Mount Ararat, the seven racing teams needed to choose one racer per grouping to select a Lada and bring it up onto a mechanic's ramp for servicing. With provided instructions and tools, they needed to drain the car's oil, replace the oil filter, and replenish the vehicle with new oil to get their next clue and direct their handiwork to the next Pit Stop at the Temple of Garni. Sheri notably completed this task, but her struggle with the oil filter dropped herself and Cole from the front of the pack to last place.

Answer: Burnie and Ashley

Finishing their Detour tasks, teams received a photo of their eleventh and final Pit Stop, directing them to the uniquely-built Shenzhen Civic Center. If teams could locate the building, they could search on foot for Phil, waiting at the Shenzhen Library Terrace. Tyler and Korey continued their lead streak, winning their fifth leg of the race (and third in a row). Although Burnie and Ashley finished their Detour task quicker than Sheri and Cole, they spent too long searching for the Pit Stop and were overtaken. The result was their elimination, leaving three teams.

Answer: Zach and Rachel

Once team members flew their kites for the second Road Block they could take off on a mad dash to the race's ninth Pit Stop. Heading by taxi to the nearby Semawang Beach, teams had to hop into an outrigger canoe and paddle out to sea, making their way to the phinisi sailing boat offshore to step onto the mat. Tyler and Korey, after several legs out of the top position, regained the lead to take their third victory of the race. This time, landing on the mat, they were rewarded with $5,000 USD each. Making it by a nose, Brodie and Kurt barely beat out Zach and Rachel to the Pit Stop, eliminating the couple in sixth place and leaving five teams in the race.

Answer: Scott and Blair

Completing their Road Block task, teams could hop into a cab and head to the seventh Pit Stop of the race in Rike Park, waiting at a spot overlooking the Bridge of Peace on the Mtkvari River. Though they left the Road Block second, Zach and Rachel were able to beat Burnie and Ashley to the Pit Stop and claim their first win of the race. The couple won themselves a trip to Turks and Caicos courtesy of Travelocity. Scott and Blair, who trailed for the entirety of Leg 7, stayed at back of the pack all the way to the Pit Stop and were eliminated here.

Answer: Erin and Joslyn

Once team members reunited at the end of the paragliding Road Block, they opened their clues to be directed to the fifth Pit Stop sitting in front of the statue of Michel-Gabriel Picard in Place Balmat. Tyler and Korey overtook Brodie and Kurt during the Road Block and checked in in first place (for the second time during the race). For their win they took with them a trip for two to Boracay in the Philippines courtesy of Travelocity. Although several teams struggled with this last task, it was Erin and Joslyn who completed the Road Block last and they fell to the back of the pack. They were eliminated in eighth place overall.

Answer: Darius and Cameron

At the end of Leg 3, after completing the Road Block, teams were told to proceed on foot to the race's third Pit Stop overlooking the water from the city walls at Baluarte de Santiago. Overtaking Tyler and Korey at the front of the pack, Brodie and Kurt ended the leg in first place, winning themselves a trip for two to Mykonos, Greece courtesy of Travelocity. Darius and Cameron, who started the leg in last, were unable to successfully overtake the other teams at the back of the pack, faltering at the Road Block, and as a result they were eliminated.

Answer: Scott and Blair

Finishing their Road Block, teams were given one last clue for the leg sending them back into Mexico City to the race's first Pit Stop, the Museo Soumaya. Matt, who got out of the Road Block before the other teams, was able to push himself and Dana to the front of the pack to secure them the first place finish, narrowly edging out Tyler and Korey. Scott, unable to locate the drums during the Road Block, caused himself and Blair to fall into last place. Fortunately for them, they arrived at a non-elimination Pit Stop and were spared from being sent home so early on.

Although Zach, Ashley, Kurt, Sheri, Dana, Korey, and Scott all completed this task, it was Dana, a trained dancer, who took it down in one attempt, pulling herself and Matt out of a near-bottom position and allowing them to check into the Pit Stop in fourth place for this leg. Ashley managed to get it done on her second try. Ending off a lengthy two leg streak of tasks with no formal Pit Stop, this tough dance challenge involved visiting the Rustaveli National Theater to complete a dance to the approval of the institution's choreographer.

Answer: Lavash

Visiting Yerevan, Armenia in Leg 6, teams could either create Armenian carpets or cook Armenian breads during their Detour task. Only Brodie and Kurt and Burnie and Ashley went to a local restaurant to create fifteen lavash for the bakers there, rolling out the dough and then smacking it into the heat of an underground oven, then trading the correctly-made ones for their clue. The other five teams went to a carpet weaving factory where they had to weave a row of two hundred threads on an in-progress carpet.

Answer: Travelocity Roaming Gnome

Starting Leg 8, teams opened their clues and were told to head out of the chilly climes (finally) and make their way to the sweltering heat of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Upon landing in the Middle East they could hop into a Mitsubishi Pajero SUV and drive themselves into the Margham Sand Dunes. Following directions through the highways of Dubai they would need to reach a marked Bedouin camp to pick up their Travelocity Roaming Gnome, their travel companion for this leg of the race, and their next clue.

Answer: Geneva

Starting Leg 4 atop the city walls of Cartagena, teams needed to head to the airport and fly across the Jet Stream to the city of Geneva, Switzerland, one of the world's most international destinations. Upon arriving, teams could make their way to the eye-catching landmark the Jet d'Eau, where they could head out to the edge of Lake Geneva and take their next clue, directing them into the city's streets to Chocolats Rohr to pick a number. The earlier the number, the earlier they'd leave after an overnight stay in the city.

Answer: Colombia

Leaving Museo Soumaya midday, teams were instructed to leave Mexico altogether and fly southeast to the nation of Colombia, a nation as of yet unvisited on the U.S. version of "The Amazing Race". Teams needed to take a flight to the city of Cartagena where they would be able to embark in a taxicab and make their way to a cluebox a short distance outside of the city at the active mud volcano known as El Totumo. The eleven racing teams ended up split on four different flights.

Answer: Four & 4

Although six teams headed to the 'String' Detour spot in rural Georgia, only four teams followed through with their aim to complete it (Zach and Rachel, Burnie and Ashley, Brodie and Kurt, and Scott and Blair) while Dana and Matt and Tyler and Korey flipped over to 'Clean' and Sheri and Cole started with the 'Clean' task all along. In 'String', teams needed to create churchkhela, a traditional treat made by stringing twenty hazelnuts and dipping them in a wine-based glaze. Those completing 'Clean' instead cleaned out a giant clay wine fermentation unit to get their next clue.

Answer: Santa Barbara

When team members performed their leaps of faith for the Road Block, they were allowed to hop into a helicopter and fly ninety miles north to the city of Santa Barbara. Once there they could head to Santa Barbara Harbor, hop into a provided dinghy, and begin searching through the marina for a boat by the name of 'Theresa Ann'. If they could locate this craft they could receive their next clue from the fisherman onboard and continue racing.

Answer: 'Haul'

Ripping open their Detour task, teams found they had a choice between 'Harvest' and 'Haul'. In 'Harvest', teams had to head to a local seaweed farm and, using a canoe, harvest enough seaweed to cover a full tarp to dry. In 'Haul', teams instead headed to the Lembongan-Ceningan Suspension Bridge, delivering fifty coconuts and four chickens by hand across the narrow structure. All five teams headed to 'Haul', using their strength and endurance to get the task done.
