Amazing Race 29 Trivia Questions

1. The race's first Road Block involved window washing in São Paulo, Brazil. Who completed this task of those listed?

From Quiz
Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 29"

Answer: Shamir

Although it took him nearly half a dozen attempts, rappelling down the side of the Instituto Cervantes São Paulo and heading back to the top to try again, Shamir was amongst the ten racers who were selected to take part in the race's first Road Block at the end of Leg 2. For this task, Ashton, Liz, Redmond, Seth, Scott, Shamir, Becca, Tara, Logan, and Francesca had to rappel down the building and wash a marked window to the satisfaction of the building's cleaning crew. If they failed to complete the task they would need to drop to the bottom, take the elevator to the top, and strap in for another attempt.

2. In Leg 11, teams flew to what South Korean city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [6]

Answer: Seoul

Teams finally left the heat of Vietnam in Leg 11, making their way out of Hoa Lư and back to Hanoi to catch a sixteen hundred mile flight north, over China, to Seoul, South Korea. Upon landing in Seoul in the evening, teams jumped into cabs or trains and made their way to Gangnam District. They would be able to find their next clue in front of the sign at Gangnam Station where a group of K-pop dancers would be performing for a local crowd.

3. Teams departed from Tanzania in Leg 5 and headed five thousand miles north to what Norwegian city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [3]

Answer: Ålesund

Opening their clue on Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, teams were instructed to travel into Europe's northern reaches to the city of Ålesund, Norway on the edge of the Norwegian Sea. Arriving the next day, they could drive themselves to the water's edge to Høgsteinen Fyr Lighthouse to complete their first task-- eating a full serving of rakfisk (long-fermented fish) would result in their next clue.

4. Heading to Dar es Salaam in Leg 3, teams found a clue suggesting that they pick up ferry tickets, but where was that clue located?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [2]

Answer: In a newspaper advertisement

To begin their third leg of the race, teams needed to depart from Trianon Park in São Paulo, head to the airport, and fly more than six thousand miles across the Atlantic and the bulk of Africa to the city of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Upon arriving, they would hop into their cabs and proceed to the Askari Monument, find a marked newspaper stall, and search through the papers there to find an ad marked with race colours. This would tell them to head to a specific ticket booth to take a ferry to Zanzibar City.

5. The first Road Block found in Leg 11 involved sport stacking in South Korea. What did team members need to stack?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [6]

Answer: Cups

Reaching Gangnam, teams had to proceed by taxi to Hanyang University Olympic Gymnasium for what would be the first of two Road Blocks encountered in this leg. Here, one member of each team needed to stack up, joining the local youths in a round of sport stacking. Using cups, participating team members were required to build pyramids with cups and properly disassemble them within seven seconds. If they could beat the clock they would get their next clue. Joey, Brooke, Logan, and Redmond completed this task.

6. In Leg 9, teams flew from Greece to what Vietnamese city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [5]

Answer: Hanoi

After the big jump, teams took a long flight, travelling thousands of miles to the Vietnamese capital city, Vietnam. All five teams boarded the same overnight flight, landing the next morning on a hot day in Southeast Asia and taking a taxi to Tượng Đài Lý Thái Tổ. When they arrived, they had to find a group of more than one hundred fan dancers. One of the dancers would have a red fan with a yellow stick, and from them, they could receive their next clue.

7. Which team did not complete the 'Sing It' Detour challenge in Venice in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [4]

Answer: London and Logan

The clue collected in Piazza San Marco was the teams' Detour, a choice between 'Sing It' and 'Bring It' in the early morning streets of Venice. In 'Sing It', teams needed to get into a traditional Venice gondola and learn the lyrics and vocal stylings of "La Biondina in Gondoleta", a song which they would need to perform as their gondolier paddled them through the canals of the city. If they could perform the song to the satisfaction of their mandolin player, he would reward them with the next clue. Becca and Floyd, Liz and Michael, and Brooke and Scott completed this task

8. Which team received the race's only Express Pass?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [1]

Answer: Becca and Floyd

As soon as Phil gave the go, teams would be able to open the luggage they'd collected, rip open the clue, hop in a taxi, and head to LAX to catch the first flight to Panama City. In addition, one of the twenty-two pieces of luggage collected would contain the race's only Express Pass, dished out via random draw per the first task. Hopping into their cab, Becca and Floyd found it in the latter's case. Additionally, because Jessie and Francesca were the remaining racers with no partner selected, they became a team by default. For this inconvenience, Phil drove them to LAX himself.

9. The fourth leg of the race saw teams creating ladle strainers from scratch in a Tanzanian metalworking shop. Which racer completed the task?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 29"

Answer: Brooke

Notably, Brooke received help from several other racers in order to complete the task, even closing out debts put on other teams to get through the tough challenge. In Dar es Salaam, team members went metalworking, creating a ladle strainer with nothing more than sheets of aluminum to get a clue that would take them to the next Pit Stop. Becca, Vanck, Joey, Michael, Redmond, Logan, and Brooke completed this task once their ladles were put to use. Shamir was also selected for this task, but he and Sara were eliminated partway through the challenge.

10. During the third leg of the race, a Blind Double U-Turn, found before the Detour, ended up knocking which team out of the race?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 29"

Answer: Seth and Olive

Reaching the island of Zanzibar in Leg 3, teams faced a Blind Double U-Turn that allowed two teams to U-Turn two other teams without anyone knowing the identity of the user. It meant that Tara and Joey could U-Turn Seth and Olive and Vanck and Ashton could U-Turn Matt and Redmond, forcing them to complete both sides of the upcoming Detour task before continuing with the race. In this leg, nearly all teams decided to build desks for local schoolchildren instead of weaving coconut leaf baskets, and while Matt and Redmond powered through the leg, Seth and Olive fell victim to the extra task.

11. What traditional Korean dish did teams need to make during their visit in Leg 11?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [6]

Answer: Kimchi

Finishing the first Road Block, teams needed to travel by taxi to the Mugyewon Arts & Cultural Center where they would be able to watch a silent demonstration on how to make Korea's national dish, kimchi. The duos would have to make six servings to the approval of their instructors, packing them into ceramic jars to ferment. Once the task was complete they would be given a taste of completed kimchi along with their next clue.

12. Which team did not complete the 'Bamboo Climb' Detour task in Leg 9?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [5]

Answer: Brooke and Scott

Getting their clue from the fan dancers, teams would be directed to the Quán Sứ Buddhist Temple to join receive their Detour envelope. In 'Bamboo Climb', teams had to pick up one of three marked ladders from a street in Hoàn Kiếm District then, transporting the 15-foot of bamboo, navigate to a specific apartment, maneuver the device up to the roof, and use it to retrieve a birdcage. They then had to return the ladder and drop off the birdcage. Becca and Floyd, Brooke and Scott, Matt and Redmond, London and Logan, Tara and Joey all went to this task, but due to the limited ladders, Brooke and Scott and Tara and Joey switched tasks.

13. What did teams need to haul around Venice during the 'Bring It' Detour task in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [4]

Answer: Luggage

Teams completing 'Bring It' Detour task heaved their way through the narrow alleys of Venice instead of taking the leisurely trip through its waters. Grabbing a unique dolly used to navigate the stair-covered bridges of the city, teams had to transport a pile of luggage from their starting point to a hotel. Tara and Joey, Matt and Redmond, and London and Logan hauled it on this task, bringing their packs to their proper spots to get their clue.

14. What did teams need to build during the 'Build It' Detour task in Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [2]

Answer: Desk

For both Detour options, teams took a dhow across the bay from where they picked up their clues. Teams choosing to 'Build It' were required to go to a local Zanzibar school where they would receive provided supplies to build a school seat/bench for local children. Once completed, teams would need to carry their creation to the schoolhouse and receive a quick four-phrase Swahili lesson to get their next clue. Teams completing 'Weave It' instead joined local artisans in weaving two bags made from coconut leaves. Tara and Joey, Vanck and Ashton, Liz and Michael, Brooke and Scott, Becca and Floyd, Seth and Olive, Shamir and Sara, and London and Logan completed this 'Build It' while only Matt and Redmond completed 'Weave It'. Since they were U-Turned, Seth and Olive went back to complete 'Weave It' and Matt and Redmond flipped to 'Build It'.

15. Which team didn't complete the Road Block task in Norway in Leg 5?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 29"

Answer: Becca and Floyd

The only reason they didn't was because they instead completed the Fast Forward task, allowing them to skip both the Road Block and the Detour before checking into the fifth Pit Stop. It would have been right up Becca's alley as a mountain climber though since team members needed to head to the town of Slinningen and climb up the side of a hand-made bonfire tower to help build the structure. Matt, Joey, Ashton, Scott, London, and Liz completed this task and headed off a week before it was set ablaze, setting a world record.

16. More teams completed the 'Lock' compared to 'Knock' during the Detour in Leg 4. Both tasks were completed in which city?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 29"

Answer: Stone Town

Teams found that both options facing them in Leg 4 were exhausting as they chose between 'Lock' and 'Knock' in Stone Town, Zanzibar. In 'Lock', teams hauled curio boxes in a Stone Town furniture shop searching through hidden compartments for a key that would unlock their clues while in 'Knock', teams had to race through the streets looking for three royal doors (from which they could collect wood carvings to trade for their next clue). Following the Detour, teams returned to Dar es Salaam.

17. The Road Block encountered in Venice in Leg 7 asked team members to try their hand at what artistic ability?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [4]

Answer: Painting

Completing the Detour, teams were instructed to make their way by water taxi to Ca'Zenobio to find their next clue box waiting out front. This was the teams' Road Block task wherein one member of each pair needed to assist the theatre troupe at Commedia dell'arte by taking one of their masquerade masks and painting a one-to-one copy of it. If participants could hone their masked intentions and craft with precision and detail, they could nab their next clue. Redmond, Tara, Floyd, Liz, London, and Brooke completed this task.

18. In Leg 3, teams completed the market Road Block in Stone Town, purchasing items through which means?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [2]

Answer: The use of their leg money

Completing their Detour tasks, teams travelled by taxi to Stone Town to find their Road Block clue box waiting in front of Darajani Market. Here, team members had to do some 'market research'. Using a Swahili shopping list, they had to find eighteen items in the busy market and, using their team's own money, purchase them and deliver them to a local family waiting outside. Joey, Michael, Vanck, Floyd, London, Brooke, Matt, Sara, and Olive completed this task to trade for their next clue.

19. Which Detour was completed by more teams in Panama (in Leg 1)?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [1]

Answer: 'Scoot'

Reaching the Canopy Tower, teams found their first Detour of the race, both tasks of which brought them to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. In 'Shoot', teams needed to use a bow and arrow to knock two fish off of pedestals in the water of the Chagres River while in 'Scoot', teams had to attempt to race against professional rowers on a river course. Both Detour options had teams paddling cayucos, traditional canoes (a dugout in 'Shoot', but a modern version in 'Scoot'). Only Becca and Floyd managed to finish 'Shoot' while the remainder of the teams launched into 'Scoot'.

20. During the 'Troll' Detour task in Leg 5, teams obtained a fishing lure with their Pit Stop written on the back. What five-letter destination were they given?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 29"

Answer: AKSLA

Visiting the Art Nouveau-lined canals of Ålesund, Norway in Leg 5, teams needed to choose between two similarly-named tasks-- 'Trolls' or 'Troll'-- and both involved the pairs searching for items in the city. In 'Trolls', teams used a map and a poem to hunt out people dressed as trolls, hidden in the unique architecture of the city streets while in 'Troll', teams hopped into kayaks and searched the canals for fishing lures marked with race colours. In both cases, teams were given the name AKSLA, the name of their next destination, a mountain overlooking the city, and with it they could find their fifth Pit Stop.

21. Which team was the last to be eliminated from the race in Leg 11?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [6]

Answer: Matt and Redmond

Leaving their esports matches behind, teams were told to get into one last taxi and make their way to the race's final Pit Stop, the Gavit Some Roof Garden, where Phil would check them in and let them know if they would make it into the final leg. Though the top three spots were highly contested throughout the evening but it was Brooke and Scott who won the leg-- their first of the race. After making poor choices in taking the train and with bad luck in cabs, it was frontrunners Matt and Redmond who were eliminated this time, leaving three in the running.

22. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop at the end of Leg 9, finding themselves saved by the last non-elimination point?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [5]

Answer: Tara and Joey

Finishing their Detour tasks, teams were instructed to make their way by taxi to the inner-city greenspace known as Thống Nhất Park where, on the waterfront, teams would be able to check into the ninth Pit Stop of the race. Becca and Floyd kept their lead through Hanoi and found themselves able to check in for their second first place win of the race. Because of this, Team Fun won themselves a trip for two to the Galapagos Islands courtesy of Travelocity. The end of the leg involved a footrace during which Tara and Joey faced severe heat exhaustion. Though they placed last, they discovered that they arrived at the race's last non-elimination mat and would face a Speed Bump in Leg 10.

23. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Venice at the end of Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [4]

Answer: Liz and Michael

After finishing the tough Road Block, teams traded their masks for clues to their seventh Pit Stop, across the city of Venice at Campo San Vio, across the Grand Canal from Piazza San Marco. Matt and Redmond, a challenge ahead of all the other teams, managed to claim the number one spot after seven legs of close calls. For their win, the pair took a trip for two to Grenada courtesy of Travelocity. Liz and Michael were the last to check into the Pit Stop, arriving on the mat in sixth. Fortunately, they checked in at a non-elimination Pit Stop and were spared from going home. They would, however, need to face a Speed Bump in Leg 7.

24. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [3]

Answer: Liz and Michael

Once people grabbed their key word they could race onward and upward, by any means, to the lookout point atop Mount Aksla to find Phil and the race's fifth Pit Stop. Though Becca and Floyd completed the Fast Forward and had an Express Pass in their back pocket, it was Tara and Joey who managed to reach the mat in first place. Fortunately, all seven teams were told to keep on racing, which meant that last place duo Liz and Michael were spared from elimination and were allowed to rip open their next clue.

25. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 3 in Tanzania?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [2]

Answer: Seth and Olive

After the Road Block, all that remained was for teams to head by taxi to their third Pit Stop, the Emerson on Hurumzi, a rooftop hotel and teahouse overlooking Stone Town. Managing to push ahead of all other teams throughout the leg, Liz and Michael retained their number one position (for a second leg in a row), earning a trip for two to Amsterdam courtesy of Travelocity. Although Becca and Floyd arrived fifth, a lost (and fortunately found) passport forced them back to eighth place, narrowly edging out U-Turned team Seth and Olive who were eliminated from the race.

26. Which team was eliminated from the race in Panama at the end of the first leg?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [1]

Answer: Kevin and Jenn

Finishing their Detour in Gamboa, the teams were told to drive themselves to the race's first Pit Stop beneath the massive Panamanian flag on Cinta Costera Tres, the beltway running around Panama City. The first team to make it to Phil and the mat was Seth and Olive who, interestingly, were the first pair-up at the starting line. Kevin and Jenn, unable to navigate at every stage of the leg, were unable to finish either Detour task due to their late arrival. They were forced to take a two hour penalty and, as such, they became the first team eliminated from the race.

27. In Leg 6, teams faced a Double U-Turn on Lake Como in Italy. How many teams were forced to complete both Detour tasks?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 29"

Answer: One

In a clear case of social racing, all six other teams conspired against Vanck and Ashton. Liz and Michael U-Turned the pair and Becca and Floyd U-Turned Liz and Michael, effectively blocking the board from being used by anyone else. It meant that the pair, who were eliminated by the board, had to do both 'Make a Mold' and 'Grab a Hold'. In 'Make a Mold', teams had to make an art piece, creating a man-shaped ghost from wire and wet plaster while in 'Grab a Hold', teams went rock climbing up a sheer cliff on the edge of Lake Como. Only Tara and Joey and London and Logan chose to complete the former task.

28. Teams started the fourth leg of the race looking for whose former home in Stone Town?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [2]

Answer: Freddie Mercury

Teams left the third Pit Stop in front of the Emerson on Hurumzi Rooftop Tea House to find that they would need to work out the location of their next clue in the city of Stone Town, specifically taking them to the childhood home of Farrokh Bulsara. If they could work this out or use the song title in their clue, they would understand they would have to stop at Freddie Mercury's home from when he grew up in Zanzibar. The clue box would be on the second floor.

29. In Leg 2, teams flew to what Brazilian city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 29" [1]

Answer: São Paulo

Leg 2 started late in the evening as teams ripped open their clues in Panama City and raced to the travel agency to book tickets and catch a flight to the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The ten teams racing in this leg managed to book passage on six different flights, all landing in Brazil in the middle of the night, before they hit the ground running and made their way to the Helipark Táxi Aéreo e Manutenção Aeronáutica. There, they could board a helicopter and fly over the city to Maksoud Plaza, disembark, and take a taxi to Praça da Sé.

30. Teams completed a Changing of the Guard for the Road Block in Leg 8, but in what European capital?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 29"

Answer: Athens

Cutting across Greece in the eighth leg of the race, the final six teams eventually arrived in Athens, the capital of the country, where they completed tasks at a number of ancient landmarks. Arriving at the Zappeion, six team members went solo for the Road Block and learned the choreography of the traditional Changing of the Guard normally performed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. If they could master the steps, they could head to the Pit Stop. This task was done by Tara, Matt, Brooke, London, Becca and Liz.
