Cheers Trivia Questions

1. In the beginning, who was the owner of Cheers?

From Quiz
Let's Raise our Glasses to 'Cheers'

Answer: Sam

Sam is a former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox an alcoholic and a womaniser. This makes him sound horrible, but he is actually a very nice man. He owns the bar for the first few series and then sells it to a company called Lillian when he decides to go round the world.

2. What word describes Robin Colcord?

From Quiz Robin Colcord: A Tribute to Roger Rees

Answer: Rich

Robin was one of the richest men in the country. That is what attracted him to Rebecca.

3. In the episode "Give Me A Ring Sometime," a debate in the bar was about the sweatiest movie ever made. Sumner Sloane offered up this flick which with the patrons seemed to agree.

From Quiz "Cheers" Comprehensive Quiz

Answer: Cool Hand Luke

"Rocky III," "Alien" and "Body Heat" were all nominated but the patrons acknowledged Sloane's entry as the best.

4. Jay Thomas played a character that first wandered in on the show's fifth season. He was a minor celebrity at the time, and he ordered a club soda with no ice, two slices of lime and a red straw. He eventually became Carla's husband. Who was he?

From Quiz Down At The End Of The Bar

Answer: Eddie LeBec

Thomas played Eddie LeBec, a goalie for the Boston Bruins. Very superstitious, he ordered a specific drink when he came in before a game. Carla fell in love and the two became a couple. Eddie's career fell apart, which the equally superstitious Carla thought was her fault, but he stuck around and married her. Everyone thought him to be a man of good character, but we found out when he died that he was secretly a polygamist. Thomas, equally famous as a radio host and actor, was written out of the show following alleged negative remarks on his radio show, causing his character's unseemly demise.

5. In episode 22 of season 8, Woody revealed his middle name. What middle name was shared by Woody and Captain James Kirk that was also the name of a Roman emperor?

From Quiz Memory 101 - Tough "Cheers" Trivia

Answer: Tiberius

Woody revealed his name to be Woodrow Tiberius Boyd, a middle name he shared with Capt. James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise. In the episode Kelly was about to leave for Europe for a year of studies and Woody wanted to give her a promise ring so she wouldn't forget him. Woody told Sam and Carla he wanted to make Kelly Mrs. Woodrow Tiberius Boyd to which Carla made some comment about his middle name Tiberius. Woody then said he hadn't told Kelly that was his middle name, but she shouldn't have a problem with it as he had accepted her middle name of Susan, saying it as if Susan was a weird middle name.

6. In episode 9 of season 4, Cheers and Gary's Olde Towne Tavern were involved in a bowling tournament. Which unlikely member of the Cheers' gang saved the day and won the tournament for them?

From Quiz Pure, Unadulterated Insanity - "Cheers'" Bar Wars

Answer: Diane

Diane saved the day for Cheers. Diane had bowled for PE in college for six semesters but did not want anyone to know, so she didn't tell them. But Gary insulted her sorority and so she stepped up. Because of Diane's heroics, Cheers won their first competition against Gary's. Woody had been a champion bowler in Indiana but he hadn't bowled since the 'tragedy' and froze while trying to bowl for the guys. Coach passed away at the end of season three so he was not present during this episode. Norm did not bowl for the team, but when he went into the lounge at the bowling alley everyone said "Norm" just like they do when he enters Cheers.

7. Luis Tiant, the great Red Sox pitcher of the '70s, was Sam's partner in a TV commercial in episode 13 of season 1. In the commercial, Sam fulfilled the same role he had on the Red Sox. What was Sam's position in his playing days?

From Quiz Smile! You're on Camera! - "Cheers" Cameos

Answer: Relief pitcher

A commercial agent, played by veteran character actor Barbara Babcock, showed up at the bar one day and talked Sam into starring in a commercial. The commercial featured Luis Tiant as spokesman for Field's Beer but he had trouble pitching the product. Sam came in as the relief pitcher and saved the commercial, just like in his playing days. The commercial went so well that the agent planned to take Sam national but Sam had a problem with his working relationship with her, as she expected him to be at her beck and call. Sam turned down the offer because of the strings attached. Luis Tiant was a Cuban born pitcher who played for the Red Sox from 1971-78 and was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame.

While the trophy was being passed around the bar it disappeared and ended up in Gary's possession. After Gary broke the trophy, Carla and Sam went over with a bottle of champagne to make peace. All of the glasses in Gary's were dribble glasses that Carla had switched out with Gary's regular glasses. After that Gary sent the exterminators to Cheers saying they had a rat problem and then put sheep in Rebecca's office. In retaliation, Carla cut into Gary's cable and interrupted the fight broadcast, replacing it with Cliff and Norm reading poetry. All of Gary's customers went to Cheers.
