Dorothy says these words at the beginning of the episode, after returning home with Rose, having been Christmas shopping. Ever the annoying optimist, upon arriving home Rose asks exuberantly, "Didn't you have the best time Christmas shopping today?", which prompts a dour Dorothy to respond with the quote outlined in the question. Dorothy then goes on to explain that her gloominess is due to the fact that Christmas no longer has any meaning any more.

During the opening moments of this episode, viewers see Rose sneaking into the kitchen in the dark, only to be frightened by Dorothy moments later, who also enters the room and turns on the light. Though it is the middle of the night, both women believe they have heard strange noises, which Dorothy eventually attributes to the fact that they all watched Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" before going to bed. Just as these two settle down, Blanche enters armed with a golf club, thus emphasising the women's collective jumpiness all the more.

During the opening credits of this episode, Sophia is startled by the sight of an injured Dorothy being carried into the living room by Rose and Blanche. Rubbing salt in the wound, Rose then proceeds to perform the move itself, preceding it with the words, "Goes something like this".

Though thrown by the entire household, the party's food was cooked by Sophia alone.

This comedic quip of Sophia's is uttered right at the beginning of this episode, and expresses her distrust of psychiatry and its practitioners. Following this, both Rose and Dorothy introduce themselves normally, while Blanche (as usual) takes the flirtatious route, following up her own introduction with the comment "It's not pertinent at the moment, but I'm double-jointed".

Even though Dorothy and Blanche's team trails Sophia and Rose's team in points, they get the chance at the Magic Money Machine by landing on the "Grab That Dough" space on the Big Money Wheel. Dorothy needed to grab at least $500 for her team to win.

At the very start of this episode, Dorothy was seen telling the cook, Coco, about the ridiculous hairstyles and hair colours sported by several of her pupils. She was particularly angry at the fact that she had been taken to task for forcing the same students to leave her class.

He then informed them that he had received a deathbed confession from a woman named Maria Heartgrove, who claimed that it was she and Sophia who were responsible for burning the place down. In true Sophia fashion, the detective was greeted by plenty of sarcastic quips, including, "She died? Good riddance! God rest her soul." Moreover, when the detective explained his reason for calling, Dorothy exclaimed, "What? That's ridiculous!", before turning to her mother and demanding, "What did you do?"

At the beginning of this episode Sophia was seen putting clam sauce in her suitcase. When questioned about it by her daughter, Sophia told Dorothy that it was because her daughter-in-law only ever went into the kitchen "to get a cold beer". Jumping to her sister-in-law's defence, Dorothy exclaimed that she had "no time to cook", as she worked "all day." However this did nothing to appease Sophia's disapproval, as she went on to state with disappointment that her son "married a welder".

At the beginning of this episode viewers saw Sophia singing in the kitchen, over a pot of spaghetti sauce she claimed she just "threw together". Though Sophia still insisted that nothing had inspired her cooking, Dorothy reminded her that she had not made the sauce "since Uncle Dominic married off his daughter."

Dorothy comes out with this quotation while she is in the kitchen with her mother and Blanche, who are both intent on discussing food. As she states nostalgically, "I used to have a waist just like Scarlett O'Hara. Well you know that girl had an eighteen inch waistline." This prompts Dorothy to come out with the quotation detailed in the above question.

After being persuaded by her roommates to see a doctor about her injured foot, Dorothy returns to the house using a walking stick. She then reveals that she has a tumour in her foot, which requires a minor surgery to remove. Despite this news, Dorothy appears outwardly upbeat and relatively carefree, and the reason for this soon becomes clear when she reveals that she is planning on never having the surgery. Nevertheless, she is eventually brought to her senses by the rest of the girls, especially her mother, who harps on about how much she "suffers when she sees her child in pain".

Though any of the four possible answers could feasibly have been uttered by Sophia, only one is actually said by her. Unable to understand the connection between Blanche's cleaning and her hatred for her sister, at the beginning of this episode Rose turns to Sophia for help, asking "If you hated your sister, would you clean the house?" In her typically-deadpan fashion, Sophia promptly responds with "I'd put Vaseline on the tips of her walker." Both women then immediately return to the cleaning tasks they have been set by Blanche, Rose to her dusting and Sophia to spraying air freshener.
