| Television Time-Related Problems Quizzes should, in the normal course of things, be online for years, and because of this we must be very careful of 'time-related questions'. These are questions which are unlikely to stand the test of time, such as asking who presents a show. In a year's time it may be that there is a totally different presenter (maybe even one of the other options given), or in three years? time another presenter is so established that the 'present' presenter is long-forgotten. Another problem with time-related questions is 'time-stamped' questions. These are questions which say things like 'as of 2004' ? these are actively discouraged. Very few people actually remember what happened in programme in a certain given year. On the other hand, in certain situations it is permissible to state the season number. As FunTrivia is not there to trick people, rather to give them an enjoyable time, we are reluctant to allow this sort of twist to replace time-related quizzes. It is especially difficult for soaps as it is impossible to say which episode you are thinking of, or which season, but it is possible to date the question by giving a programme-based link such as a birth, a wedding, a disaster such as a fire etc., or giving more information about the event you are asking the question about, and this should pass. Here are some examples, with the acceptable options in bold type: Who plays Jane? Who played Jane (as of August 2005)? Who played Jane after Amy Smith left the cast and the character underwent cosmetic surgery? What is the name of the current presenter? What was the name of the presenter in 1978? Who took over from John Smith in the third season / season 3? Which presenter had the catchphrase 'Shut that door!'? What happened at Anne?s wedding? What happened when Anne got married in 1997? Apart from the fact that it rained, what happened on Anne and Michael's wedding day? The trick is - the more information you can give in the question itself, the less likely it would be returned with the old 'time-related' cry of anguish from an Editor!
