What does Laura learn about the Colonel that most people don't know?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 1: "The Colonel's Bequest""

Laura Bow Trivia Questions

1. How is Ernie Leach killed?

From Quiz
"Laura Bow 2" Part 3

Answer: He drowns in the vat

Looking at him doesn't give you any obvious clues, but the narrator points out that he smells like alcohol. The vats are alcohol vats. In addition, Ernie Leach's office is next to the vats, and Olympia Myklos calls him to fix the clog in vat 13. From there, you can deduce that when he went there to fix the clog, the killer pushed him in the vat. Lucky for Laura the killer wasn't there when she was searching the vat.

2. Where is the real Dagger of Amon Ra first seen?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 2

Answer: Gift Shop

Laura goes to the gift shop, where they sell novelty daggers of Amon Ra. They are designed exactly like the real dagger, except they have a logo on them that says "Made in Pittsburgh." One of the daggers in the gift shop does not have this logo.

3. What is the name of the second person to speak in the introduction?

From Quiz Laura Bow 2: The Dagger of Amon Ra

Answer: Dr. Pippin Carter

Dr. Carter is an archaeologist who digs up an ancient tomb in Egypt and finds the object mentioned in the sub-title of the game. He then takes it to the United States. The Egyptian man in the intro is upset about this, as he believes the dagger should be left where it was found. Dr. Carter tells him that if he doesn't like it, he should complain to his own government, which suggests the U.S. government bought the dagger. We don't find out the name of the Egyptian man until later.

4. Laura Bow is a student at what university?

From Quiz Laura Bow 1: "The Colonel's Bequest"

Answer: Tulane

Laura Bow is a very intellectual 20-year-old woman who is devoted to her studying. She rarely parties. If you've played "Gabriel Knight," you could've gotten this question even without having played this game. When Gabriel goes to Tulane to watch a lecture on voodoo, he sees a notice on the bulletin board that Laura Bow will be doing a presentation on detective work (Sierra always loved to reference their other games). Gabriel doesn't attend, because by the date of the presentation he has to learn on his own. It's just as well. Gabriel is probably a better detective than Laura anyway.

5. Who does Wolf Heimlich accuse of the crimes?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 3

Answer: Laura Bow

Wolf Heimlich is suspicious of Laura because she is always the first person to find the bodies. In reality, she's just a better cop and detective than Wolf Heimlich and Detective O'Riley.

6. Who is the first person murdered in the museum?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 2

Answer: Dr. Pippin Carter

Laura finds Dr. Carter's body in a mummy tomb, with a dagger in his heart. The dagger he was stabbed with has the "Made in Pittsburgh" logo on it. If you click certain icons on his body, you can get some funny comments from the narrator. This is a very underrated narrator in my opinion.

7. What is in the chest that the stevedore is carrying?

From Quiz Laura Bow 2: The Dagger of Amon Ra

Answer: A dead body

The first thing you see in the introduction is a murder. A man breaks into a bedroom, kills another man in his sleep, and stuffs him in the trunk. Later in the intro, you see the stevedore carrying the trunk, saying that "it sure is heavy" and "It smells funny." Lucky for him, he didn't see the introduction that we saw. If he did he'd probably be in trouble.

8. In act four, Lillian is seen examining the colonel's what?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 1: The Colonel's Bequest" - Part 2

Answer: Weapons

Laura catches Lillian examining the colonel's rifle collection. Lillian says "Oh hi Laura, you startled me." Something tells me Lillian isn't the only one who is startled.

9. What is Lillian doing in the bathroom at the beginning of the game?

From Quiz Laura Bow 1: "The Colonel's Bequest"

Answer: Putting on perfume

If you want to get the perfect score, you have to type "Look at Lillian" twice for the game to realize that Laura notices this. How you're supposed to know this without a hint book is beyond me. Sierra games, especially those designed by Robert Williams, were notorious for having purposefully absurd puzzles designed to sell hint books.

10. Who makes an appearance in act four who didn't appear in all of act three?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 3

Answer: Steve Dorian

Steve Dorian appears right outside of Yvette's office in act four. Laura wonders what she is doing there, since he wasn't invited to the party, and why he had disappeared for a while. He says he was there to see her, and he was gone because other women kept asking for him. Olympia Myklos wanted to see his scars and Yvette wanted to show him his tattoo. Laura is unhappy that he is not upset by this and that he did not try to fend them off. Steve insists that he was just being nice. Then Yvette comes in and asks Steve for a backrub. Steve goes into the office and gives her the back rub. Laura assumes that Steve and Yvette are going to have sex so she walks in on them, only to see that Steve was just giving her a backrub (but Laura still was sad about it).

11. What is one piece of evidence found near the first corpse that Laura finds in the museum?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 2

Answer: A gold Ankh

Dr. Tut Smith's gold ankh is found near Dr. Carter's body. That would seem to strongly incriminate Dr. Smith, who has an obvious motive for murdering Dr. Carter. On the other hand, a woman's high-heel print is also found near the body, and Yvette Delacroix was supposed to meet with Dr. Carter at 8 PM. In this game, you have to determine which pieces of evidence are real and which ones are red herrings. When Dr. Smith goes to the exhibit but meets Laura instead of Dr. Carter, he claims he did not know that Dr. Carter was dead and that he doesn't know what happened to his ankh. Is he lying? Or did someone steal his ankh to frame him?

12. Aside from Laura, who is the only character from "The Colonel's Bequest" that also appears in "The Dagger of Amon Ra"?

From Quiz Laura Bow 2: The Dagger of Amon Ra

Answer: John Bow

Laura Bow's father makes a couple of token appearances in the intro to each game and a couple of other places. In this game, he is seen preparing his daughter for a trip to New York and saying goodbye to her. He helps her get a job at a newspaper in New York. You wouldn't expect any other character from the first "Laura Bow" game to appear in any future games. Most of them are dead, and the surviving ones will either remain on their island or go to jail.

13. Who is seen wandering around outside, drunk?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 1: The Colonel's Bequest" - Part 2

Answer: Ethel

Throughout the game you can see this a couple times. I like seeing this, because there is a theme song that plays whenever drunk Ethel is on the screen. Despite being drunk, Ethel is the first person besides Laura to notice that something is askew. The sober people do not catch on until later. You can tell them about the murders all you want, but no one will ever believe you.

14. Who was set free for the last murder?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 3

Answer: Barney

Barney, Olympia Myklos' pet cobra, was set free by the killer to poison someone. Myklos walks into her office to see that the person is dying. Myklos is a little slow in figuring out what is happening. To make matters worse, the dying person tells Myklos the name of the killer, but Myklos mistakenly thinks that she is asking for him and goes to search for him, leaving the snake free. Myklos tells Laura that someone is dying in her office, so Laura goes into her office to investigate but must deal with the cobra first. Daisy is Myklos' pet ferret. The ferret has nothing to do with the murders. Ice Pick is the name of a loan shark whom Ernie Leach owed a lot of money to. Yvette thinks Ice Pick killed Leach. The marching ants are a running gag that appears several times throughout the game (they can open doors somehow). They never kill anybody except possibly Laura. They eat Carrington's flesh after he already died.

15. Who is the last character introduced in the game?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 2

Answer: Ernie Leach

Ernie Leach is the custodian. After Dr. Carter's murder, the police order him to lock the doors to the museum, locking everybody inside the museum so that the suspect can't get away. If you ask me, locking a bunch of innocent people in the same building as a murderer is not the best way to solve a murder. Ernie Leach is also the only black person in the game.

16. What is "The New York Experience?"

From Quiz Laura Bow 2: The Dagger of Amon Ra

Answer: Getting mugged

On the train, Laura meets a woman who has been in New York for a long time. The woman tells her that when she first stepped off the train in New York, she was mugged right away. She says it's "The New York Experience." Laura experiences two crimes as soon as she leaves the train. First, her suitcase is stolen. Then she is mugged. I've been to New York City twice by train and neither of these things ever happened to me, so I am skeptical of the real-life accuracy of this.

17. Who is the fourth person murdered?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 1: The Colonel's Bequest" - Part 2

Answer: Ethel

Poor Ethel! She had been living in misery since her husband died 12 years ago and now this happens. Her body can be found in one of two places. You can find her in the rose garden or the barn.

18. Who does Lillian argue with at the beginning of the game?

From Quiz Laura Bow 1: "The Colonel's Bequest"

Answer: Her mother

Another absurd thing in this game is the secret passages. In order to get most of the interesting information in the game you have to find the secret passages. How do you find them? Well, probably by using a hint book. The game gives you a few hints but they are not obvious. It mentions that there are scuff marks near the armoires, but if you try to examine the scuff marks, the game does not understand "scuff." So how you are supposed to know that those scuff marks mean you can "move armoire" is beyond me. Thee are also paintings... on the 4th wall! Those painting have hollow eyes which is supposed to be a hint. How you are supposed to know about these paintings is also beyond me. But you do have to discover the secret passages or this game won't be much fun. At the beginning of the game, you learn that Lillian and her mother do not get along very well (if you use the secret passage).

19. In act five, going to which part of the museum will automatically get Laura killed?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 3

Answer: Lobby

In act five, Laura must go from the screen with the thinker to the mastodon room to the pterodactyl room to the armor room, then she must hide in a tomb in the Egyptian exhibit. If she makes one mistake, she's dead.

20. Olympia Myklos is fascinated with men's what?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 2

Answer: Scars

Dr. Myklos arranges meetings with Wolf Heimlich and Steve Dorian throughout the game to examine their scars. She wants to get to know these men better.

21. Laura is asked to report on a what?

From Quiz Laura Bow 2: The Dagger of Amon Ra

Answer: Burglary

The Dagger of Amon Ra has been stolen from the museum. Laura Bow has 24 hours to write a report on it or she is fired.

22. What was the murder weapon used in act five?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 1: The Colonel's Bequest" - Part 2

Answer: Rolling pin

In another non-obvious Sierra puzzle, you are supposed to wander around the estate to the southwest portion of the estate, where there is not much but swampy water. You are supposed to find a rolling pin there. There is blood near the rolling pin, so you know that it was the blunt object used to kill Ethel. There is also a boot print with the insignia of an eagle near the rolling pin, so you know that either the murderer was the colonel, or the murderer stole the colonel's clothes.

23. Gertie threatens to Clarence that she will tell the colonel about his what?

From Quiz Laura Bow 1: "The Colonel's Bequest"

Answer: Race horse

Clarence and Wilbur embezzled money from the colonel and bought a racehorse with it. The race horse failed miserably. Gertie knows about this.

24. In a secret room in the basement, Laura discovers some sun worshippers. Who is their leader?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 3

Answer: Ramses Najeer

Laura hadn't actually seen Najeer since act two, although she did overhear him with Yvette. Najeer and the other sun worshippers are in a hidden room that's behind a normally locked door, behind two secret passages, and down an elevator. They didn't think anyone would find them. But Laura is running from a serial killer so she's going wherever she can to get away from the killer. Najeer is not happy when Laura discovers him and his minions. Although Laura promises to keep the sun worshippers a secret, Najeer doesn't trust her because she is a reporter, who could write about them and make them a major story and blow their secret. The sun worshippers intend to sacrifice Laura, but then Laura tells them "I thought the Egyptians didn't make HUMAN sacrifices." Najeer then learns that Laura knows a little bit about Egyptology, so he says that it is Amon Ra's law that if she can solve a riddle, they must let her go. Laura must answer the riddle in hieroglyphics (so if you didn't look at both halves of the Rosetta stone, you will be stuck here). The riddle is the same riddle Ziggy told to her earlier in the game (so you had all game to think about it). If you don't know the riddle, there is a hint in Dr. Myklos's office in the form of a message in hieroglyphics. It's a two-part riddle with rhyming answers. Synonyms not accepted. If Laura solves the riddle, Najeer lets her go. She then tells her that the killer is chasing her. Najeer had been in the hidden room since act two (except for one brief moment of time when she was with Yvette) so he was unaware of the murders. Najeer promises Laura that he and his sun worshippers will stop the killer. They fail. The killer kills two of the sun worshippers and gets by. Najeer survives.

25. Ramses Najeer is what?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 2

Answer: Married

When Yvette seduces Najeer, he tells her that he is married. This is somewhat surprising because he is a stereotypical nerd and not the kind of men that women normally go for. Of course, I have a feeling he wouldn't remain married if his wife ever found out that he slept with a whore, or if his wife learned any of his other secrets.

26. At the Tribune, Laura Bow is the only what?

From Quiz Laura Bow 2: The Dagger of Amon Ra

Answer: Woman

The game takes place in 1926, when women mostly worked in the kitchen. Newspaper agencies didn't hire many women back then. According to Sam Augustini (Laura's boss), being a reporter is too dangerous for women. He only hired her as a favor to her father, who helped him become as successful as he was.

27. Who does Fifi fall in love with?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 1: The Colonel's Bequest" - Part 2

Answer: Jeeves

Fifi and Jeeves can be seen kissing in act 5 and Jeeves can be seen patting Fifi's bottom. They can be spied on exchanging word of love to each other. Laura can also spy on both of them individually in their respective rooms, half naked, getting ready for a date with each other. Unfortunately, the date ends badly for both of them.

28. Who does Lillian get along with best?

From Quiz Laura Bow 1: "The Colonel's Bequest"

Answer: Celie

Celie, the cook, is very nice to Lillian. Celie cooks a pie for Lillian to help her feel better. She also teaches Lillian something. Lillian seems to like Celie better than anyone else on the island, even her supposed best friend Laura. Lillian used to get along very well with the Colonel, but that changed.

29. Who does Laura find in the furnace room?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 3

Answer: Steve Dorian

Dorian was captured by the killer and dumped down a chute that led to the furnace room. The killer then left him for dead. Actually, he was just unconscious. Laura must move the coal on his body and wake him up with the smelling salts she found on one of the corpses. She also must return his boot. If Dorian steps barefoot on the floor, he will stub his foot on something or the floor will be too cold, and he will scream and he'll fall to the ground unconscious, where he will remain until the killer breaks into to kill him and Laura. If Laura dies from this point on, Steve Dorian dies too.

30. Ziggy's back is impaled with a model of what kind of dinosaur?

From Quiz "Laura Bow 2" Part 2

Answer: Pterodactyl

There is a room in the museum with a Pterodactyl attached to the ceiling. At a certain point in the game, the dinosaur is cut down laying on top of a headless body, its beak impaling the back of the body. Laura finds the head in the life mask exhibit and learns that it is our beloved Ugarte impersonator.
