Inspired by BBC TV's "Only Connect" here is a series of connected items to sort into to four groups of four. If you know the show, you should know what to expect. If you don't... well, good luck!

These ten pictures are simply some clues in a colour. Just put the two together and come up with a saying, phrase, book, TV show or movie. One of the words is always the colour it is written in, the other (or others) refer to the written clue.

Many words are lonely, and need a friend. One of the best is 'e'. At the end of a word, this magic letter can change a vowel sound from the usual phonetic to the alphabetic - the dangerous word, "cut" softens and becomes "cute" when joined by 'e'.

Newspapers sometimes publish a crossword with both easy, or "straight" clues and harder cryptic ones. This quiz does the same, so you have two chances to solve each question. The answers all relate somehow to the words "easy" or "hard".

You'll get 9 word pairs in which the last letter of the first word is also the first letter of the last word. Replace this common letter by another letter having the same effect. The correct solution will give you (9 for 10) a word top to bottom.

Lenny the Lie-on Lion is very laid back, he likes to let his friends have their own way, hence his nickname. His favourite game at parties is inventing similar sound-alike sobriquets for his alliteratively named friends. Can you tell who is at this one?

Add "E" to the front or back of the word derived from the first definition to form a new word. For example: E + Pluck = a long narrative poem, so E + Pick = Epic. You may work with the way a word sounds rather than the exact spelling, as above.
