Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Manx cats originally come from which island?

Answer: Isle of Man

They come from the Isle of Man. Taiwan has nothing to do with these cats. Cambodia isn't an island, and Siciuputianx is not a real place.
2. What part of the body are Manx cats famous for lacking?

Answer: Tail

Manx cats have perfectly normal noses, ears and teeth but are tailless, or have very short stumps of tails.
3. What way of moving, excluding walking or running, is typical of the Manx cat?

Answer: Hopping

Other cats hardly ever hop unless they have lost a limb, but of course Manx cats don't always hop. When they hop they move similarly to a hare or rabbit.
4. Which parts of the body are unusually long on Manx cats?

Answer: Hind legs

Their hind legs are unusually long in comparison to other breeds. Manx cats can have normal length tails and still be a Manx cat, but most are born with no tail or a short tail.
5. The physical appearance of the Manx Cat led to a myth of it being the offspring of a cat and which other animal?

Answer: rabbit

This myth arose because of their usually long legs and lack of a tail.
6. Manx cats have particularly round what?

Answer: Heads

They are well known for their well rounded heads. The Manx cat typically has 2-4 kittens in a litter, some of which may be completely tailless and some of them have stumps of a tail.
7. What word can be used to describe tailless cats?

Answer: rumpy

They can be known as rumpy Manx cats. None of the other answers have anything to do with cats without a tail. Manx cats usually live for about fifteen years.
8. There are three different types of Manx cat. Rumpy (tailless), tailed and what other type?

Answer: Stumpy

A stumpy is a Manx cat who just has a stump of tail. Manx cats are very friendly, especially kittens and males.
9. As well as the Manx, other breeds of cats have little or no tail. What is general name for these breeds?

Answer: Bobtail

Examples of bobtails include the Japanese bobtail, the American bobtail and the pixie bob.
10. Manx cats have no tail because of a natural mutation sometimes known as Manx Syndrome. What is the scientific name for the mutation?

Answer: Sacrocaudal dysgenesis

Sacrocaudal dysgenesis is the only real phrase here. All the others are made up. It is a perfectly natural mutation. Manx cats are very intelligent. They aren't quite as independent as some other breeds of cat.
