The over production of a dark pigment called melanin is the cause of their dark fur. These deer are very rare. There are more melanistic deer in central Texas than the rest of the world combined.

White-tailed deer rutting season occurs in the fall, usually late in October through early November.

I am not sure how they got the name Virginia deer but I would think that the settlers named them that when they started their settlement in Virginia. I used my imagination for the incorrect answers.

Venison is usually eaten as steak, jerky or sausage. Venison is also known to be a healthier meat than beef, pork and lamb.

Blue Tongue is a viral disease transmitted to deer by an insect and can not infect a human. CWD stands for Chronic Wasting Disease and is also called "Mad Deer Disease." Bumble foot can infect a bird or rodent. Ceres was the first asteroid discovered and the largest. Aergia is the Greek goddess of laziness. Lag Jaw, VDS and CBB are not anything as far as I know. I just made them up.
