1. The rules I CAME up with for myself are simple. The words asked for are common (and later on not-so-common) English words that are made only from the fifty two-letter official US Postal Service state abbreviations, singly or in strict combinations. Almost any telephone book has these abbreviations and the words will be found in any large dictionary, printed or on-line. I'll include definitions when they get ARCANE. Capital letters are not necessary, but look better.

ME is the abbreviation for Maine and is also the objective case of I.
2. It's elementary, Paul Simon says Betty can call him this.

Answer: AL

AL, for Alabama, is Al, the symbol for the element aluminum (or aluminium) and "You Can Call Me Al" is from the album "Graceland."

Answer: NENE

The Nene Goose is Hawaii's state bird, slowly coming back from near extinction. NENE is two Nebraskas.

Wisconsin and North Dakota

Short for demonstration; Delaware and Missouri, which, as the "Show Me State," seems appropriate.

I hope everyone knows that Ernest Hemingway was known as "Papa" to the world. Two Pennsylvanias.
7. Money spent in London or Amsterdam

Answer: FLORIN

The florin coin was worth two shillings in England and was also called a gulden in the Netherlands. Florida, Oregon and Indiana

Answer: ORDEAL
