Question 1 of 10
1. The discovery of the surprisingly large number of words that can be MADE (Massachusetts and Delaware) from the two-letter Post Office Abbreviations developed MANY (Massachussetts and New York) years ago is what first led me to FunTrivia. The abbreviations can be found in most almanacs, dictionaries, encyclopedias and telephone books. The answers can only be the exact abbreviations alone or in combination. Some of the words are ARCANE (Arkansas, California and Nebraska) and most of my clues probably LAME (Louisiana and Maine). It won't make a difference in your answers, but I think capitals look better. I hope this is fun.
First, let's say hello.

Hawaii, of course; aloha would have been too easy.
2. Each of what I hope to become several quizzes will mix the number of letters required, but will all be 2, 4, 6 or 8. Another short one: Mrs. Kettle.

Answer: MA

Massachusetts
Knowing this one and the next will date you. "MA and PA Kettle" were the subjects of several motion pictures in the 1940's and 50's. If there were extra credit, you could get it by knowing the movies starred Marjorie MAIN (Massachusetts and Indiana) and Percy Kilbride.
3. And Mr. Kettle.

Answer: PA

Pennsylvania
4. It can certainly be said that the Kettles were related (and perhaps arthritic).

Answer: AKIN

Alaska and Indiana
Sorry about "achin'." It was meant to help, not confuse.
5. The most common use for Postal Abbreviations.

Answer: MAIL

Massachusetts and Illinois
6. This one could be a killer: A marine mammal.

Answer: ORCA

Oregon and California
7. The California Commemorative Quarter, for example.

10. A good kind of swamp to drain.

Answer: MALARIAL

Massachusets, Louisiana, Rhode Island and Alabama
I guess I'll know by the scores if my clues are OK (Oklahoma) or you can let me know.

Alternate: Missouri, Oregon, Louisiana, North Dakota for 'moorland' which is a swampy area.
