Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does J.T. stand for?

Answer: James Thomas

James Thomas Patrick Walsh was born in September of 1943. His characters began making their appearance way back in 1982. His sudden death from a heart attack in 1998 was a shock to everyone who knew him. The reason his screen name was not JP Walsh is because of an innocent casting error. He was cast accidentally as JT Walsh and decided that sounded better than JP Walsh.
2. Characters- DEA Agent Maguire; Dale McKussic; Jo Ann Vallenari and Nicholas Frescia

Answer: Tequila Sunrise

Mel Gibson (Dale), Michelle Pfeiffer (Jo Ann), and Kurt Russell (Nick) were the stars of the movie. Did you know that Michelle was offered the role of Kathryn in "Basic Instinct"? I think Sharon Stone ended up being perfect for that part.
3. How many movies did he star in with Kurt Russell?

Answer: 4

They are "Tequila Sunrise" (1988); "Backdraft" (1991); "Executive Decision" (1996); and "Breakdown" (1997).
4. Which 1990 movie did J.T. have an uncredited role as a State Trooper?

Answer: Misery

He was in all of these movies that were released in 1990.
5. Characters- Matthew Markinson; Sam Weinberg; Jack Ross; and Louden Downey

Answer: A Few Good Men

The character of Markinson was very memorable for me, as this is one of my all time favorite movies. Jack Nicholson also stars as Nathan Jessup, and coins a generation of movie goers with "You can't handle the truth!"
6. Charles Bushman, his "Sling Blade" character, was a deaf mute.

Answer: False

No, Charles had plenty of stuff to talk about. He rattles on to Karl about how he killed a hooker, who turned out to be a man. Karl was played by Billy Bob Thornton.
7. Finish this Big Bob quote from "Pleasantville". "Oh, I think we want to keep these proceedings as ____________ ."

Answer: pleasant as possible

There is a nice memorial to J.T. at the end of the movie.
8. Which of these movies did he NOT star in with singer Dwight Yoakam?

Answer: Panic Room

Dwight's character in "Red Rock West" was smaller than his "Sling Blade" role of Doyle Hargraves. A fun fact about Yoakam, he played the brother of Helen Keller in a high school showing of "The Miracle Worker".
9. Characters- Terence Niebaum; Danny Roman; Chris Sabian; and Rudy Timmons

Answer: The Negotiator

Danny Roman was played by actor Samuel L. Jackson. They were also both in the 1993 parody "Loaded Weapon 1". This movie also contains a memorial to Walsh.
10. In one of his 'based on a Stephen King novel' movie appearances, he played a character named Danforth Keeton. What was the nickname of this character?

Answer: Buster

This was the movie "Needful Things". He was also in "Misery", though uncredited.
11. Which of these "X-Files" characters was played by Mr. Walsh?

Answer: Warden Leo Brodeur

Leo appeared on the third season of the "X-Files" in an episode called "The List". The character of Melvin Frohike had numerous appearances on the show, as he was one of the Lone Gun Men. The man who played him, Tom Braidwood, was also an assistant director for many episodes. Sergeant Hynek was played by Michael Dobson, who had 4 different roles on the show from season 2-5.

He also has a twin brother named Brian.
12. Which 1987 film did J.T. Walsh star in with Robin Williams?

Answer: Good Morning, Vietnam

Some memorable lines from the movie follow:
Walsh's character Dickerson points to his rank: "What does three up and three down mean to you, airman?"
Williams' character responds: "End of an inning?"
13. Cole; Lilly; Roy; Myra; Bobo; and Nurse Flynn

Answer: The Grifters

Anjelica Huston plays Lilly Dillon in this movie about the ultimate con. "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" alum, Juliet Landau has an uncredited role as Young Lilly. The Grifters was released in 1990. J.T. had a small role as Cole.
14. JT, Chris Penn, and Martin Sheen were in this movie set in Russia.

Answer: Sacred Cargo

Did you know Martin Sheen was once in a soap opera? It was in 1967 and called "The Edge of Night". Chris Penn is the brother of Sean Penn. I remember Chris mostly as Willard from "Footloose".
15. Mr. Walsh was once in a movie with basketball super star Shaquille O'Neal.

Answer: True

In "Blue Chips" Walsh played a guy named Happy. The movie also starred Nick Nolte, "Married With Children" star Ed O'Neill, Alfre Woodard, and another basketball star Penny Hardaway. Penny and Shaq were both on the Orlando Magic for a while.
