When he was just seven months old, his mother, Adeline, died from epilepsy. He was raised by his father, William Gable and his stepmother, Jennie.

She died on January 16, 1942. Production on the film temporarily stopped, and receommenced on February 23rd. Ironically, the role he played in this film, Jonathan Davis, has a brother who is killed and the script contained painful lines about death. On his first day back, he announced that he would enlist in the Army Air Corps and when the filming was over, in August 1942, he enlisted.

He went to England to make a motion picture of aerial gunners in action. He flew missions over Europe in B-17s to obtain combat film footage.

He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal and was relieved from active duty as a Major on June 12, 1944.

He co-starred with Carole in 1932 in their only movie together, "No Man of Her Own". In January 1936, he met up with her again at a society party. Soon they became the most popular couple in Hollywood. On March 29, 1939 they exchanged vows only to have the marriage tragically end just under their 3rd anniversary on January 16, 1942 when Carole was killed in a plane crash.

Mr. Gable won the Oscar at the 7th Annual Academy Awards ceremony in 1934. He won in the category of 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' for his work in "It Happened One Night". He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in "Mutiny on the Bounty" in 1936 and again in 1940 for his work in "Gone with the Wind" but din't win. "It Happened One Night" also was the first film to ever win Oscars in all five of the major categories, Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Writing/Adaptaion (Screenplay).

Although she did sing it at his 36th birthday party, "You Made Me Love You (I Didn't Want to Do It)" was originally written in 1913 by Al Jolson, (music by James V.
