Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who took me on my blind date in a "Love Bug", accompanied by "Beethoven", all the way to Monte Carlo?

Answer: Dean Jones

Dean Jones starred as the driver in "The Love Bug" and Buddy Hackett played his friend, who made sculptures out of car parts.

Charles Grodin was the (human) male star of "Beethoven" in which Dean Jones played a mad vet.

Don Knotts was the mechanic to Dean Jones' driver in "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo".

Dean Carroll Jones started his showbiz career with his own radio show while still in high school. He went on to star on Broadway, television and in many films.

As a child, I thought that Dean Jones was my Mr Perfect.
2. "It Happened One Night" that I went on a blind date all the way to "Mogambo". Who was my "Soldier of Fortune"?

Answer: Clark Gable

Ward Bond was the (uncredited) bus driver in "It Happened One Night", in which Clark Gable starred with Claudette Colbert as a couple who meet on a bus.

In "Mogambo", Donald Sinden was the husband of Grace Kelly with whom Clark Gable had a romance, despite the presence of the seductive and single Ava Gardner.

Gene Barry was a photojournalist who had disappeared in "Soldier of Fortune". Clark Gable helped Barry's wife find out where he was, helping himself to the wife along the way.

William Clark Gable appeared in more than 80 films, starting as an extra in 1924. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, reaching the rank of Major.

Clark Gable was tall, dark and handsome. I fell for him, despite all of the bad boys that he played.
3. My next blind date took me "Around the World in 80 Days", taking in "Casino Royale" and "Wuthering Heights". Who was this suave British actor?

Answer: David Niven

Robert Newton played Inspector Fix who followed David Niven as Phileas Fogg in "Around the World in 80 Days", in the belief that he was a bank robber.

Laurence Olivier was Heathcliff and David Niven was Edgar Linton in "Wuthering Heights".

"Casino Royale" is a 1967 comedy spy film starring David Niven as retired spy 007, Sir James Bond. Sean Connery was the original James Bond to most, appearing in six films in the official series.

The Academy Award winning actor, David Niven, epitomised the sophisticated and quintessential Englishman for me. Many erroneously believe that he was Scottish, but he was actually born in London. In addition to his highly successful film career, he was well respected as an author of several books too.
4. I had "Great Expectations" on my next blind date. Which knighted actor did not disappoint by taking me "O.H.M.S." to have an "Ice Cold in Alex"?

Answer: John Mills

John Mills and Alec Guinness starred alongside each other in "Great Expectations" as Pip and Herbert Pocket, his London friend.

"O.H.M.S." is a 1937 British comedy film starring John Mills. George Lazenby starred as James Bond in the 1969 film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", often known as "O.H.M.S.". This is my favourite film in the franchise.

Allan Cuthbertson played the Brigadier's Staff Officer in "Ice Cold in Alex". A blond haired John Mills was Captain Anson, the one who used the idea of a cold beer at the destination to motivate himself to keep going.

Sir John Mills CBE was a brilliant and versatile actor who always looked fantastic, even well into old age. His career lasted more than 60 years, during which he appeared in over 120 films, several television shows and many stage appearances. In 1998 he was cast as Gus (The Theatre Cat) in the film version of the musical "Cats".
5. "The Man with No Name" did not remain "Unforgiven" on our blind date for long. Who was it that turned up in a "Pink Cadillac"?

Answer: Clint Eastwood

Lee Van Cleef starred alongside the 'Man with No Name', played by Clint Eastwood, in spaghetti westerns.

Gene Hackman is the fanatical law man and Clint Eastwood the retired gunfighter in "Unforgiven".

Timothy Carhart is a white supremacist and owner of the "Pink Cadillac" in the title of the film. Clint Eastwood is the bounty hunter called in to get back the car and its thief, played by Bernadette Peters.

Actor, producer, director, singer, composer and politician Clint Eastwood makes everything he touches a success. When he was born in 1931 he weighed 11 pounds 6 ounces (5.2 kg). Eastwood served as a lifeguard during the Korean War, which served him in good stead when he and a pilot had to swim to shore after landing in the sea 3 miles (5 km) from land.
6. My blind date with "The Big Boss" was a great success when "Marlowe" and I took the "Way of the Dragon". Who was my date that night?

Answer: Bruce Lee

James Garner was Philip Marlowe and Bruce Lee, in his first Hollywood film, was Winslow Wong, one of the men who trashed Marlowe's office.

James Tien was a fight loving martial artist in "The Big Boss" which starred Bruce Lee, a film about an ice factory, where he worked, that was the front for a drug smuggling ring.

Chuck Norris played Colt, one of three foreign martial artists hired to force Bruce Lee's family to sign over their restaurant. "Way of the Dragon" was called "Return of the Dragon" in U.S.A.

Bruce Lee started his film career as a child actor in Hong Kong. He returned to America for his higher education and started teaching martial arts. Speculation over his death in Hong Kong, at the age of only 32, meant that the authorities asked for the services of a forensic scientist used by Scotland Yard. His death was put down to misadventure. It has been suggested that it was caused by a fight move several days earlier.
7. At first the next blind date was a "Slow Burn", but in the "Nick of Time" it all turned out fine when which star plied me with "Chocolat"?

Answer: Johnny Depp

Eric Roberts was the star of "Slow Burn", a 1986 American television film about a missing mother and her son. Johnny Depp appeared as the missing son who only wanted to be loved.

In "Nick of Time", Christopher Walken was Mr. Smith who abducted accountant Gene Watson, played by Johnny Depp, and his daughter Lynn and then tried to force Watson to go on a suicide mission in exchange for his daughter's life.

Juliette Binoche was a master chocolatier in "Chocolat". Alfred Molina played the mayor of the village where the action took place. Johnny Depp played the gypsy Roux, with whom Binoche fell in love.

Johnny Depp is listed in the '2012 Guinness Book of World Records' as the highest paid actor and was named as the Sexiest Man Alive by "People Magazine" in both 2003 and 2009. He seems to specialise in the more odd characters on film, including dressing as a woman, a boy with blades for fingers, a drunken pirate and a bloodthirsty singing barber.
8. Although my next blind date was "Presumed Innocent", he was still "The Fugitive". Who took "Extraordinary Measures" to ensure that our date was a success?

Answer: Harrison Ford

Brian Dennehy is Prosecuting Attorney Raymond Horgan and the boss of Harrison Ford who was given a rape case to prosecute in "Presumed Innocent".

Joe Pantoliano played a member of the team that hunted down Harrison Ford as "The Fugitive", a man who escaped from custody to prove his innocence.

Brendan Fraser played the father of two children with Pompe disease, who raised a massive sum of money so that scientist, Harrison Ford, could do the research to find a cure for his children in "Extraordinary Measures".

Harrison Ford earned the Reptile Study merit badge as a boy scout. When later starring in "Indiana Jones" films, his fellow ex-scout, director Steven Spielberg, turned the character into a snake hater as a joke.
9. Out in the "Wild Wild West", my next blind date went without a "Hitch" because my date made "The Pursuit of Happyness" his goal. Who is the thoughtful gent?

Answer: Will Smith

Kevin Kline played two roles, the President and also Will Smith's partner, in "Wild Wild West" as they tracked down a missing scientist.

Kevin James played the client of Will Smith as "Hitch" who advised men on dating and subsequently keeping the woman of their dreams.

Brian Howe was the manager of the brokerage firm that took on a down-on-his-luck Will Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness".

Will Smith is the only Rap artist that I choose to listen to. "The Fresh Prince" started his Rap career in 1980 but his real fame came ten years later when he became "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", on the television show. Excellent at comedy, but convincing in other genres too, he has started an acting dynasty by introducing his son to acting.
10. Although my blind date had a "Funny Face", we still had a great time. He was right when he said, "The Sky's the Limit" and I was so glad that I had worn "Silk Stockings" for whom?

Answer: Fred Astaire

Michel Auclair was a professor in Paris. Fred Astaire was a photographer who persuaded a young woman to model for him - "Funny Face" Audrey Hepburn, because she was desperate to meet the professor and the photo-shoot was in Paris.

Robert Benchley provided the comedy in "The Sky's the Limit", the darkest of all Fred Astaire's dance movies, which gave him the chance to prove that he could act as well as sing and dance as a pilot on leave during WW11.

Peter Lorre played a bumbling Russian agent sent to America to bring back the composer tempted there by Fred Astaire as the producer in the film "Silk Stockings".

Fred Astaire was named the fifth Greatest Male Star of All Time by the 'American Film Institute' on 15th June, 1999. He deserves this accolade, having had a career that lasted over 75 years. He started his film career playing himself, the highly successful stage dancer, in the Clark Gable and Joan Crawford film, "Dancing Lady".

I cannot have been the only woman who wanted to be in Fred's arms, can I?
