But, Norman endeared himself to the Australian viewing audience in a way no other comedic character had or could have done, simply through his gormlessness, vulnerability and clownlike antics.

Ambushing them outside Charlton Stadium, Norman was in fine form. Keith Moon's comments included, "I don't want anything to do with you Australian *** ... now will you please leave me alone you great *** !" Further into the interview, Keith Moon poured champagne over Norman, who protested that he didn't drink. Norman finished the interview with the following comment, "That was Mr Keith Moon, the fabulous drummer from the top pop group The Who .... I think he's been sitting in front of amplifiers too long!"

Her real or intentional memory lapses and disorientation and his usually unsuccessful attempts to deal with her made for a very successful comedy.
