Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the concept behind calling Jamie "The Naked Chef"?

Answer: Keeping the recipes and ingredients simple

The producers of Jamie's first TV show also were responsible for giving us "The Two Fat Ladies." Thank goodness they didn't give us two fat naked ladies. To this day Jamie maintains a certain level, if not, discomfort and even dislike for that name.
2. Jamie got his start, as a boy working in the kitchen of his father's pub. What is the name of the pub?

Answer: The Cricketers

Actually, more of a pub-restaurant. It's in Clavering, Essex, where Jamie grew up. Even without Jamie in the kitchen, the food was fantastic the last time I went there!
3. What is the name of Jamie's wife?

Answer: Juliette

Juliette, a former model from Cambridge, and Jamie were married in June 2000. Jamie is very happy because for the first two years of their relationship Juliette was too intimidated to cook so Jamie had to do all the cooking. Now she does her share. Pukka!
4. Which supermarket chain has Jamie done TV commercials for?

Answer: Sainsburys

That's why there are always copies of his latest books for sale near the checkouts at Sainsburys. Jamie also has taken a consultant role with the shop, advising them on what to stock, especially on fresh herbs, which (with some olive oil) are at the heart of Jamie's cooking.
5. What is Jamie famous for riding?

Answer: Scooter

With maybe the geekiest crash helmet ever made. Jamie only ever owns one at a time, but he's had at least four in total as people kept stealing them. For our American friends, you would call a scooter a "moped".
6. Which of these is Jamie's catch phrase?

Answer: "Pucka Tucka"

For those of you who don't speak Essex, Pucka (actually pukka) means good, genuine or authentic. While Tucka (ctually tucker) is more of an Australian phrase meaning food. Put them together and you get tasty food.
7. What's the name of Jamie's independent television production company?

Answer: Fresh Productions

Jamie's TV career began accidentally. He was one of many chefs in the kitchen (at the River Cafe') of a BBC documentary. He'd only come in because another chef had called in sick. After it aired the offers poured in as TV execs wanted to know who that cheeky one was who kept telling camera crew to "get out of the way mate."
8. What did Jamie and Jools name their first daughter?

Answer: Poppy Honey

After her parents famously tried to conceive and relied on hormone treatments, Poppy was born on the 18 March 2002, tipping the scales at 7lbs, 14 oz.
9. Name the reality TV show, where Jamie took a bunch of untrained, unemployed kids, and taught them to run a kitchen in a real restaurant.

Answer: "Jamie's Kitchen"

The 16 to 24-year-olds, with virtually no experience had to become top-class chefs. He was setting up a new restaurant ("Fifteen") in an old building in East London where they would work. The eatery and TV series have both been huge successes. Jamie now plans to repeat the formula elsewhere in the UK and in Sydney and New York.
10. Which of these London restaurants had a young Jamie Oliver working in its kitchen, before he became famous?

Answer: The River Cafe'

After he became famous, Jamie did work as a consultant chef, briefly at Monte's in Knightsbridge, London. Since becoming a chef, Jamie gets by on 5 hours sleep a night.
11. Why did the BBC drop Jamie from their line-up?

Answer: Conflict of interest

When Jamie signed on to do commercials for Sainsburys, the BBC (which can't run commercials) was upset that the ads were running on commercial stations at the same time as Jamie's BBC show. He was soon picked up by Channel 4.
12. What was the original working title for "Jamie's Kitchen"?

Answer: "Oliver's Army"

"Oliver's Army" was in planning when the BBC dropped Jamie. It was changed to "Jamie's Kitchen" when he moved over to Channel 4. The name "Fifteen" as the name of the restaurant came about since it was about taking 15 untrained chefs and turning them into professionals.
13. What did Jamie give his first daughter for her first birthday?

Answer: Cherry tree

Jamie is proud to be a loving dad and display this openly. He figures Poppy obviously won't remember her first birthday but she can always go see the tree he planted to commemorate it.
14. What is the name of Jamie's rock band?

Answer: Scarlet Division

Jamie plays drums for the band. Louise Brannan is their lead singer. By the way Dog Star is Keanu Reeves' band, Tenacious D features the actor Jack Black, and Kevin Bacon leads the Bacon Brothers.

Answer: Fell off his scooter, while making his entrance

Jamie, who is quite popular in America, also regularly appears on the Jay Leno (Tonight) Show, even though many people say they can't understand what he is talking about. Don't worry Yanks, neither do we. Jamie was not hurt falling off the scooter, except maybe for his pride.
17. What is the name of Jamie's charity?

All the profits from Jamie's "Fifteen" restaurant go to Cheeky Chops, used to fund more training for more young hopefuls, and maybe more "Fifteen" restaurants around the world.

Answer: David Beckham's

Jamie bought them for £29,000 at a charity auction. Ironically, although Jamie's injury was just a bruise in a kickabout with friends, Beckham had suffered a break of the metatarsal just prior to the 2002 World Cup. Jamie decided to hang the boots on his restaurant wall.
19. Jamie has two GCSEs. (British scholastic tests - General Certificate of Secondary Education) In which subjects?
