Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who famously appeared on an episode of "The A-Team" called "Cowboy George" in 1986?

Answer: Boy George

The episode features a bizarre plot involving George's band Culture Club filling in, controversially, for the eponymously named performer as part of a half-baked scam.

As you can imagine, the other three options were selected purely because they too were called George.
2. Which leather clad singer played the rather aptly named Leather Tuscadero in several episodes of "Happy Days" between 1978 and 1979?

Answer: Suzi Quatro

Suzi was towards the end of her hit making career when she started acting, though she was still performing well into the 21st century.

The other three options have all been prominently seen wearing leather coats on record sleeves and music videos.
3. A parrot named Ziggy is featured in an episode of the 21st century CBeebies children's TV programme "3rd And Bird". The person who voiced the parrot had a very famous father who sadly is no longer with us. What is the name of this late singing legend?

Answer: Bob Marley

A charming kids' TV show. Ziggy Marley features in an episode where the bird community decides to fly to Jamaica for a vacation. Marley has featured in many children's shows over the years, including "Sesame Street", "Charmed" and the highly successful film "Shark Tale" amongst others.

The other three options were all, of course, deceased performers with famous offspring: John Lennon was the father of Julian and Sean, Tim Buckley's son was the much celebrated Jeff, who tragically drowned in an accident in 1997, and Ian Dury's son Baxter is a popular performer in a similar vain to his dad.
4. Only one band appeared more than once on the anarchic 1980s comedy "The Young Ones", and their frontman was one of very few featured musicians to have any dialogue in the entire duration of the series. Which band was this?

Answer: Madness

"Do you know 'Summer Holiday' by Cliff Richard?" asks Rick (Rik Mayall), as the group is featured playing in the students' local pub. "You hum it, and I'll smash your face in" replies the ebullient frontman, Suggs (real name Graham McPherson) in the legendary comedy show.

The Damned, Motorhead and Amazulu also all featured in an episode each of "The Young Ones".
5. Which teen sensation played Jason McCann, a character who was shot and killed, in two episodes of "CSI"?

Answer: Justin Bieber

Rather a dramatic departure from the sugary pop music he is firmly associated with, Bieber's grisly role probably horrified the legions of so-called "Biebettes" everywhere!
6. Which musical "reality show" winner appeared as herself in the classy Scottish sitcom "Still Game"?

Answer: Michelle McManus

Showing what a good sport she was, McManus turned up as the "celebrity guest" at the local pub of pensioners Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade (played by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill) only to be snubbed in favour of former boxing champion Jim Watt.
Michelle won the 2003 series of "Pop Idol" and topped the UK chart the following January with "All This Time".

Leona Lewis won "X Factor" in 2006 and has had many hits, including three chart toppers in "A Moment Like This", "Bleeding Love" and a version of Snow Patrol's "Run".

Alexandra Burke won the 2008 "X Factor" and has also had three number one hits with "Bad Boys", "Start Without You" and a version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah".

Cheryl Cole found fame as one fifth of Girls Aloud, who were created on the ITV show "Popstars: The Rivals" in 2002. They are by far the most successful winners of any television talent show, having achieved 20 sizeable hits, all reaching the top ten except for "Untouchable", which peaked at number eleven. Despite this success, the band only topped the chart four times. Cole herself has gone on to have two solo chart toppers with "Fight For This Love" and "Promise This".
7. What was the name of the song Chrissie Hynde performed, as Stephanie Schiffer, in the hugely successful US comedy "Friends"?

Answer: Smelly Cat

Hynde's character educated Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) on the "correct way" to play "Smelly Cat" in a 1995 episode of the sitcom.

I chose "The Great Pretender" as an option due to Chrissie's band being called The Pretenders. Their 1980 UK chart topper was one of the other choices, "Brass In Pocket".

"I'll Be There For You" was the programme's theme tune, performed by The Rembrandts, which reached number three in the UK chart and topped the Canadian one.
8. Clare Grogan appeared in an episode of the brilliant Irish sitcom "Father Ted" in 1996, but which band did she front in the 1980s?

Answer: Altered Images

Grogan played a well known feminist in a superb episode in which Father Ted himself is hilariously hosting the "Lovely Girls Festival".

The other three options were chosen because they too were bands with female lead vocalists: Transvision Vamp featured Wendy James at the helm, Saint Etienne had the dulcet tones of Sarah Cracknell and Everything But The Girl were led by Tracey Thorn.
9. Stuart Goddard appeared in an episode of the Edward Woodward detective series "The Equaliser" back in 1985, but that is not the name he is better known by. What is his stage name?

Answer: Adam Ant

Adam Ant is actually a very well established actor, having had roles in TV series such as "Northern Exposure", "Sledge Hammer!" and "Batman", and having acted in many movies that stretch right back to Derek Jarman's 1978 punk film "Jubilee".

Sting's real name is Gordon Sumner, and he is also a prolific actor, having starred in Guy Ritchie's "Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels", David Lynch's "Dune" and Franc Roddam's "Quadrophenia" amongst many, many others.

Roland Gift was the frontman of Fine Young Cannibals and had acting roles most notably in Michael Caton-Jones' 1989 film "Scandal" in which he portrayed the hustler and jazz promoter Johnnie Edgecombe, and in the TV series "Heartbeat" and "Highlander".

Captain Sensible's real name is Raymond Burns. His only known acting credit was in a 1987 Mike Batt musical called "The Hunting Of The Snark", in which he played the role of The Billiard Marker.
10. Who voiced a character who wrote a song for Lisa in "The Simpsons" as a birthday present from Bart?

Answer: Michael Jackson

The late singer, who tragically suffered a fatal heart attack in June 2009 in controversial circumstances, voiced Leon Kompowski in a 1991 episode called "Stark Raving Dad". In it, Leon becomes acquainted with Homer Simpson in a mental institution after the latter has been sent there for wearing a pink shirt to work!
