Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Vic Reeves' real name?

Answer: James Roderick Moir

His real name is Jim Moir, Vic Reeves was just a random name he thought of one night before a show - although he tells reporters it was a combination of singers Vic Damone and Jim Reeves.
2. Bob Mortimer is just his stage name.

Answer: False

No, Bob has no stage name. His full name is Robert Renwick Mortimer, and he claims his middle name 'Renwick' comes from his "Scottish ancestors".
3. When Vic's "Big Night Out" was performed from a pub in 1986-89, which of these celebrities was NOT a regular member of the audience?

Answer: Matt Lucas

Although he would be inspired by the TV show as a young man, Matt Lucas wasn't in the audience for the "Big Night Out". Paul Whitehouse, Jonathan Ross and Jools Holland were regulars, often performing onstage - and Jonathan was instrumental in getting the show onto television through his production company, Channel X.
4. How did Vic and Bob first meet?

Answer: Bob was in the audience at Vic's show

In the mid eighties, after finding his girlfriend in bed with a Hell's Angel, Bob bumped into an old friend who took him to see Vic performing. He loved the show, and talked to Vic afterwards and they became friends, soon writing and eventually performing together.
5. Which of Vic's singles made it to number one?

Answer: "Dizzy" (with the Wonderstuff)

"Born Free" made it to number two in early 1991, "Abide With Me" barely scraped the top 50 in Christmas 1991, "I'm A Believer" got to number three in 1995, but "Dizzy" found the number one slot in October 1991 - could have been due to all the lucky washing machines in the video.
6. Which football team did Bob have trials for as a youngster?

Answer: Middlesbrough

Bob has been a fan of Middlesbrough since he was a child - even having trials with the youth club before his arthritis forced him to stop. In 1997, Bob recorded Chris Rea's hit "Let's Dance" with Middlesbrough F.C. and it reached number 44 in the charts.
7. Which of their hit shows featured the man with the scores, George Dawes?

Answer: Shooting Stars

Vic and Bob created the character of big baby George Dawes for young comedian Matt Lucas from the first full series of "Shooting Stars" (1995). Their original idea was to have him wear a nappy all the time, but he objected and suggested to a blue romper suit, but the costume arrived and it was pink.
8. Which of these shows did Vic and Bob NOT take on tour?

Answer: Bang! Bang! It's Reeves and Mortimer

"Bang Bang" (1999) only had the one TV series, and no tour despite its quality. The other shows had two tours each - "Big Night Out" had a university tour in 1990 and the nationwide Brown Tour in 1991. "The Smell of..." had the Puce Tour in 1994, and the Weathercock Tour in 1995. Finally, "Shooting Stars" had a live run of its own and a joint tour with "The Fast Show" in 1998.
9. Which popular sixties show did Vic and Bob revive in 2000?

Answer: Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)

The remake of "Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)" was a big success, with Bob taking the role of private detective Jeff Randall and Vic playing his ghostly partner Marty Hopkirk. The show also starred Emilia Fox and Tom Baker, and was directed by Charlie Higson.
10. Who are the only two characters to have survived from the early "Big Night Out" days through every Vic and Bob sketch show?

Answer: Donald & Davey Stott

Donald and Davey Stott have appeared in all of their sketch shows, from "Vic Reeves Big Night Out" (1991-93), to the second series of "The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer" (1993-95), up to their latest, "Bang Bang It's Reeves and Mortimer" in 1999. Mulligan and O'Hare only first appeared in "The Smell of..", Chris and Carl only in "Bang Bang" (1999) and "Catterick" (2004), and Graham Lister & Mr Dennis only appeared in "Big Night Out".
