Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these famous guitarists said the following in a 1999 interview? "I thought the music would endure, I didn't think I would .. I always thought I'd be dead by 30 then dead by 40 and on and on. Now I'm 55 so I didn't even die at 50."

Answer: Jimmy Page

Jimmy Page was a very popular session guitarist in the 1960s before joining The Yardbirds and soon after that, forming Led Zeppelin. He has worked with many different musicians since the demise of Zeppelin, including The Black Crowes, Paul Rodgers, David Coverdale, and his old pal Robert Plant.
2. "Rock and Roll is music for the neck downwards." Which of these famous rockers said that?

Answer: Keith Richards

I've found a load of hilarious Keith Richards quotes. I could fill up a 25 question quiz with them but that would be going overboard just a little.
3. Which rock star said, "My friends call me Keith, but you can call me John." ?

Answer: Keith Moon

Keith Moon was the maniacal drummer for The Who from their formation until his tragic death in 1978.
4. Which of these musicians wrote and performed a song with this very true lyric: "The large print giveth and the small print taketh away." ?

Answer: Tom Waits

Tom Waits is a brilliant musician whose music defies categorization. The line is from the hilarious song "Step Right Up", from his album "Small Change".
5. Who said, "Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it." ?

Answer: John Lennon

This is from a 1971 interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
6. Who sniped back at rock critics with this gem? "Rock journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read."

Answer: Frank Zappa

That's one of my favorites. The world lost a great guitarist and an incredible mind when Frank died on December 4, 1993.
7. Whose quote is this? "Most things I worry about never happen anyway." (A clue to the answer can be found in the lyrics to one of his songs about 'his girl')

Answer: Tom Petty

An excerpt from the lyrics to Petty's song "Here Comes My Girl": "Yeah, I just catch myself wonderin', waitin', worryin'
About some silly little things that don't add up to nothin'."
8. Which of these musicians (who has had quite a bit to say over the years) spoke these words? "A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom."

Answer: Bob Dylan

Though Dylan himself would probably dispute this, it seems that quote reflects an enormous change in his general outlook on life.
9. Which of these performers spoke out against warning labels on albums with this quote? "Since every record surely contains something offensive to someone, sticker them all. Make this as meaningless as the bar code."

Answer: Michael Stipe

Though he's the only one of the four I listed who did not testify to the PMRC against labelling music albums, Stipe obviously shared his fellow songwriters' opinions.
10. What deep thinker came up with this one? "Not the torturer will scare me, nor the body's final fall, nor the barrels of death's rifles, nor the shadows on the wall, nor the night when to the ground the last dim star of pain, is hurled but the blind indifference of a merciless, unfeeling world."

Answer: Roger Waters

Roger Waters was the brains behind the message and the bass behind Pink Floyd's music in the 1970s.
