Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This character just took life one day at a time. He was homeless -- he lived in the city dump. But he did manage to get by, with the help of some of his other homeless friends. Which character is this?

Answer: Freddie the Freeloader

Freddie the Freeloader is one of my favorite characters. In a hilarious episode guest starring Jackie Coogan and my favorite Vincent Price, Freddie and Mugsy (Coogan) find a painting by "Leonardi da Vinki". They decide to take it to an art critic (Price) who will do anything to get the painting.

He offers them a million dollars but Freddie won't budge. Freddie decides instead to donate the painting to a local art museum. Funny, he is still penniless. There's also a great ad-lib by Vincent about "The Fly" which was still in theaters at the time.
2. This poor boxer, he was always hearing birds and bells. He was a little punch drunk, too. He was ____ ?

Answer: Cauliflower McPugg

This character was a trip. "Answer the phone will ya!" Poor guy -- that phone never stopped ringing for him.
3. Which character was a farmer, who spoke with a slight lisp and wasn't too smart?

Answer: Clem Kadiddlehopper

"Clem had a head in which nothing would stick; neither readin', writin' or arithmetic. The source of his trouble was a head that was double, and as a result twice as thick." -- One of my favorite lines from an episode of the radio show.
Clem just couldn't get out of the third grade. He lived on a farm with his mother and father and just loved Sarah Doo, one of his classmates.
4. Which character was a little boy who was very destructive: he was a real "problem child"?

Answer: Junior

Junior, the mean widdle kid -- his full name. Junior was always getting himself into trouble, he could never stay put. In one episode of the radio show, he managed to break a window, write on the walls (Junior Was Here), and blow up a classroom.
5. Which character was a cowboy: "The fastest man on the draw in the West"?

Answer: Deadeye

This is another one of my favorite characters. Nothing like that mustache...it is always falling off. ;D
6. This next fellow was a politician. He was always thinking up new ways to try to run city hall. He was _____ ?

Answer: San Fernando Red

Nothing like a good politician to brighten your day. Hehe....just kidding. I know some very nice politicians. Red also used the broken teeth bit with San Fernando in several episodes.
7. Which fellow never went a day without drinking: he was always off-balance, falling down and quite confused?

Answer: Willie Lump Lump

Poor Willie...he just wouldn't go and check into the AA. He lived each day to get drunk.
8. This fellow was practically afraid of his own shadow. He worked in a garage, but was always messing something up. He was ____ ?

Answer: George Appleby

One of my favorite episodes with George is when he accidentally witnessed a murder. Everytime the phone would ring he would practically jump out of his skin. Nothing like the old fashioned slapstick comedy.
9. This is not a character that Red played, rather it was a character that he used in his monologues. I should really say characters. They were a pair of birds that were husband and wife. You just need to name *one* of them.

Answer: Gertrude

Heathcliff was always drunk and Gertrude was always nagging. Sounds like an average American couple to me!
10. For how many years did Red have a show on TV?

Answer: 20

"The Red Skelton Show" ran from 1951 to 1971 on ABC. Of course, I missed everything by being born 10 years after the show was cancelled. What ROTTEN luck!
