Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the occupation of The Three Stooges in the beginning of the feature?

Answer: Carpenters

The Three Stooges are carpenters who are installing a door on the second floor of a pharmacy. "Pardon My Scotch" is the first Stooge episode to employ "Listen to the Mockingbird" as their official theme song. It would continue to be used until 1939. The Stooges use the famous tool gag for the first time in this episode.
2. Which stooge falls through the floor when the others saw around him?

Answer: Moe

The door falls on Moe. When Larry and Curly try to saw him out from under it they cut through the floor and Moe falls to the floor below. Prior to Moe falling through the floor, Curly cut through a table that Moe was standing on. The table (which was wired off camera to split on cue) split inward instead of outward and Moe came crashing down, breaking three ribs.

He was able to pull himself up and deliver a double slap to Larry and Curly before fainting. Moe was then rushed to the hospital and production ceased briefly.
3. What is the name of the owner of the drug store who briefly puts The Three Stooges in charge while he runs an errand?

Answer: Mr. Jones

The owner is frequently referred to as Mr. Jones. He is played by Al Stewart, who had bit parts in several other Stooge episodes. He appeared in minor roles in over 150 movies, including Martin and Lewis' "The Caddy."
4. What do The Stooges use for a shaker when making a drink for a customer?

Answer: A boot

The boys use a large boot as a mixer. They then pour the concoction through a cane chair as a strainer and the cane burns through. Moe exclaims "That last batch had teeth in it!" This gag was revived in their 1947 episode, "All Gummed Up."
5. The Stooges end up at a high society party posing as Scottish distillers. What does Curly reply when a Scotsman asks them if they're from Loch Lomond?

Answer: We're from Lock Jaw.

He replies they are from "Lock Jaw" and promptly receives a smack from Moe. When asked if they can do the Highland Fling, Moe replies that they can do the Lowland Shim and they proceed to dance raucously in their kilts. The Scotsman is played by Barlowe Borlan, who started his career in silent films in 1924 and went on to appear as a butler, professor, Scotsman or similar bit roles in over 50 films.
6. What do they throw at the Italian singer while he's entertaining?

Answer: Fruit

Senior Louis Balero Cantina is played by Billy Gilbert. While he is singing the opera number, "Santa Lucia," The Stooges fire grapes and a banana into his mouth to shut him up. When he quits singing and calls them pigs, The Stooges clobber him with a pineapple.

The son of singers in the Metropolitan Opera, Billy Gilbert began performing in vaudeville at age 12. He developed a drawn-out, explosive sneezing routine that became his trademark. He was the model for, and voice of, Sneezy in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Gilbert's exquisite comic timing made him the perfect foil for such comedians as The Stooges as well as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

He was especially memorable as the dim-witted process server, Pettibone, in "His Girl Friday."
7. When the lady of the house asks The Stooges if they will perform their native dance, what does Curly reply?

Answer: I ain't taking my clothes off for anybody.

Gladys Gale played Mrs. Martin. She appeared in over 50 movies and short reels in bit parts and had an occasional part in Stooge episodes. Of course, Curly misunderstood her question and thought she wanted them to dance naked.
8. Which stooge dines on the flowers at the dinner table?

Answer: Larry

Larry proceeds to eat the centerpiece flowers. Being a gentleman, he offers some to the young lady sitting next to him. Across the table from him, Curly gets bitten on the nose by his sandwich and Moe finally ends up pulling the tablecloth from the table, spilling the dinner all over the guests.
9. What is the name of their scotch?

Answer: The Breath Of Heather

The scotch is called "The Breath of Heather." The Stooges concoct it in the pharmacy. This short was filmed just four months after the ratification of the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution, which ended the American experiment with Prohibition.

This event is an integral part of the storyline because the drugstore owner is frantically attempting to lay in a stock of liquor in anticipation of the end of Prohibition.
10. What happens when they tap the keg of scotch in the finale?

Answer: It explodes

Of course the keg explodes, engulfing the room in a sea of foam. As the episode fades out Moe is alternately bashing Larry and Curly. Moe calls Larry a "porcupine" and bonks Curly and Larry's heads together for the first time in this episode.
