Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of this famous British woman's first acting roles was playing a sperm on roller skates. Can you name her?

Answer: Victoria Beckham

Born in 1974, Victoria Beckham nee Adams is a British business woman, fashion designer of sorts, singer and model. She initially rose to fame as one of the members of the singing group, the Spice Girls, but by 2013 was considered to be one of the top 100 richest and most powerful women in the United Kingdom. And to think it all began as a sperm on roller skates, played on the British television show "Body Matters". Imagine the success her life would have been if she remained in that worthy career.

Of the other three choices above - those women are American born celebrities.
2. The lovely Whoopi Goldberg went from one dead end job to another until she finally found her true niche in the world of entertainment. Can you select one of her first jobs from the following choices?

Answer: Morgue beautician

Whoopi Goldberg, who was born in 1955, has many strings to her bow. She is not only an accomplished actress, but also a comedienne, writer, activist and television host. Who could forget her memorable role as the shonky clairvoyant, Oda Mae Brown, in the 1990 film "Ghost", which relates the story of the ghost of a murdered man desperately trying to contact his still living love through Oda, to save her from danger. Whoopi tried various jobs in her early years of employment. One of her first one was dubious to say the least.

She worked as a phone sex operator. No wonder she always looks as though she wants to burst out laughing. Then she upgraded from that to morgue beautician. Lord bless us, at least her customers there had no complaints. Prior to that, she was also a bricklayer for a time, before finally finding her way into the world of entertainment.
3. You'll do a double take with this. One of Bob Hope's first acts when he began work as an entertainer was what?

Answer: A Siamese twin

Bob Hope (1903-2003) was another celebrity with many talents. He was a busker, butcher's assistant, lineman, vaudevillian, singer, dancer, actor, comedian, author of fourteen books, television host, athlete and a man who gave endless hours of his time entertaining the troops overseas during the sorrowful times of war.

These included fifty-seven tours between the years 1941-1991. What a champion. Athlete you ask? Bob was a boxer in his early days. That explains his nose. He probably didn't duck. Another of his early forays into the world of entertainment was part of a comedy duo with George Byrne in which the pair played a pair of Siamese twins. I'd loved to have seen that. Bob's famous later pairing with the actor Bing Crosby saw them making a series of the amusing "Road" movies together.
4. This actor, producer and musician never found his roles on the cutting room floor. He swapped his sword for a writing implement in his early days, when he sold ballpoint pens over the phone for a living. Can you name him?

Answer: Johnny Depp

Listening to the talented Johnny Depp selling ballpoint pens over the phone would have been a very entertaining experience, one imagines. Born in 1963, Johnny is the star of such peculiar films as the 1990 "Edward Scissorhands" in which he plays an artificial man with a pair of scissors as hands. Very odd. Johnny has gone from selling pens to become one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood.

He doesn't seem to be afraid to tackle any character in his art.
5. This American singer, producer, actor and philanthropist didn't make bonbons in his early career. He made Christmas decorations for a living instead. Who is he?

Answer: Jon Bon Jovi

Born in 1962, Jon Bon Jovi is most famous for founding and fronting the internationally acclaimed rock band Bon Jovi. This group has sold over 130 million albums worldwide...not singles - albums. That's pretty amazing, isn't it? Jon is also one of the major owners of the football team Philadelphia Soul, as well as founding the very worthwhile organisation Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation which works to combat poverty and economic despair in families and individuals who are up against the world in their day to day lives. Rather comically so, Jon's parents, who had both been marines, worked as a barber and a Playboy Bunny after leaving their earlier careers.

It's really hard for me to imagine a mighty marine becoming a Playboy Bunny, but stranger things have happened. Jon, on the other hand, made Christmas decorations in his early days. So much safer, considering the customers involved.
6. Her "training" as a G.I. should have equipped this famous woman for her early job as a debt collector. Can you name her?

Answer: Demi Moore

Demi Moore was born in 1962. She is an accomplished actress, songwriter, movie maker and model, with a somewhat troubled personal life. After Demi dropped out of high school in her chase for Hollywood stardom, she worked as a debt collector of all things to keep the wolf from the door.

Her childhood was far from ideal, mainly as a result of her extremely dysfunctional mother. Demi also suffered from kidney trouble, and was cross-eyed. Married three times, this lovely star's personal life is the stuff that would comfortably fill any psychiatrist's filing cabinet. One of her most noted films was the 1997 "G.I. Jane" in which she plays the first woman to train in the U.S. Navy Special Warfare Group.
7. Dick Tracy would have loved this actor's early work in the entertainment business, when he was hired as a rodent catcher to rid a theatre of "da doirty rats". Who is this celebrity?

Answer: Warren Beatty

Born in 1937, Warren Beatty is an actor, producer, director and screenwriter of note. His first work in the entertainment business was with the National Theatre in Washington - when he was employed to patrol the alleys at night to dispatch roving rodents to that great cheese in the sky.

More than just a pretty face, Beatty rejected ten offers of scholarships for his prowess as a football player when he was young to work in the entertainment business, a decision that proved to be sound. Beatty was a well known ladies man in his earlier days in Hollywood - in fact he turned it into an art form all on its own - but married the lovely actress Annette Bening in 1992 and finally settled down.

The couple met on the set of the 1991 film "Bugsy" in which they both starred, and which relates the story of the real life big time American mobster, Bugsy Siegel.
8. Sylvester Stallone really got into the ring with one of his first jobs. What was it?

Answer: Lion cage cleaner

One presumes the cages were empty of their occupants at the time, or Rocky Balboa, a role Stallone played in a series of films between 1976 and 2006, would have really had the stuffing knocked out of him. Born in 1946, Sylvester Stallone is an American actor, director and screenwriter.

He's not as tough as he looks though. Those looks were the result of a birth injury which caused paralysis in part of the baby's face, resulting in his famous sneer and manner of speech as he grew older. I actually had a cat with a similar sneer.

The children were terrified of him. Poor old Sly really had a setback or two as a child. As well as having to deal with his facial problem, his mother made him take tap dancing lessons from the age of four to cure his flat feet, and then made him work part time in her beauty salon. No wonder he reacted and made his series of manly, violent films in later life. Over-compensation.
9. An early role for this actor was as a cowboy hitchhiker in the 1991 film "Thelma and Louise" in which he takes off with Louise's life savings, but he's gone from strength to strength since then. One of his first means of earning an income, however, was dressing as a chicken and handing out flyers for a nearby restaurant. Who is he?

Answer: Brad Pitt

El Pollo Loco (Crazy Chicken) was the restaurant which gave the delectable looking Brad Pit an income in his early days. To go from performing in his high school musicals and debate teams, and representing the school more than competently at various sports, to majoring in journalism at the Missouri University - to dressing as a chicken. From the sublime to the ridiculous.

However, that didn't last long and Brad, born in 1963, soon gained small roles in various television shows and movies, working his way up to become one of the highest paid stars in Hollywood.

He can play the hero, the love interest, the villain, and the con artist all with equal ease, is lovely to look at, and is noted all over the world for his philanthropic works. The perfect package in fact.
10. This British singer, songwriter and occasional actor worked as a porter in a psychiatric institution in his younger days. Some would say he still belongs there, but as an inmate. Noted for his rubbery lips, who is he?

Answer: Mick Jagger

Born in 1943, Jagger is one of the founding members and lead singer of the iconic band, the Rolling Stones. Singing has been an intricate part of his life, it seems, as far back as he can remember. He loved it even as a very small child and loves it still all these years later. Today he looks a little like a walking skeleton after years of hard living, as indeed do all the members of his band, but still he sings on. Love him or hate him, you have to at least admire Jagger for that lifelong love.
