Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This Hanna-Barbera staple was also the voice of Cap'n Crunch cereal's sea-faring mascot.

Answer: Daws Butler

Daws Butler was one of the best voice actors in history. He was a major influence on many actors in the industry today and is considered a mentor to many present-day voice actors. Sadly, he died in 1988.
2. Which of the following cartoon animals did voice master Don Messick NOT play?

Answer: Heathcliff

Don Messick's most famous role is, of course, Scooby Doo. Heathcliff was portrayed by Mel Blanc, not Don Messick, though he had a role in the series. Mr. Messick provided the vocal effects for both Gloop and Gleep from 'The Herculoids' as well as the snickering cat, Sebastian, from 'Josie and The Pussycats.' Though Lenny Weinrib was the original voice of Scrappy Doo, Don Messick took over the role in 1980.
3. Though she did not receive credit for her roles, this actress provided many female voices for Warner Bros., Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons.

Answer: June Foray

Animator Chuck Jones once commented 'June Foray is not the female Mel Blanc. Mel Blanc is the male June Foray.' Mel Blanc's contract stated that only his name was given vocal characterization credit for any of the aforementioned cartoons where his voice was heard.
4. Time for '6-degrees of voice actors.' This and the subsequent 5 are linked in some manner. Let's start! This actor provided the screeches for the spider-monkeys in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' and Spock's screams in 'Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.'

Answer: Frank Welker

Frank Welker is known as a 'voice god' in Hollywood and has provided animal vocal effects for a myriad of movies and cartoons. His first role was Freddie from 'Scooby Doo, where are you?'
5. Speaking of 'Star Trek', Leonard Nimoy provided the voice of Galvatron in 'Transformers: The Movie.' Galvatron was fashioned from which Decepticon?

Answer: Megatron

Megatron was played by Frank Welker, the answer to the previous question. Of course, when Galvatron moved on to TV, Frank was playing him.
6. Now that I mentioned 'The Transformers,' this actor provided the original voice for Starscream, the inept Decepticon second-in-command.

Answer: Chris Latta

Chris Latta (who also went by Chris Collins) used the same unique voice for Cobra Commander from 'GI Joe.' And, he was part of the cast in the classic anime 'Starblazers.' Sadly, he passed away in 1994 after a heart attack.
7. How'd we get to 'The Simpsons'? Oh, yeah...I remember now. This 'Simpsons' regular also provides the voice of Grandpa Phil on Nickelodeon's 'Hey Arnold!'

Answer: Dan Castellaneta

Dan, Harry and Hank provide the voices for the majority of the characters from the show, in case you didn't know.
8. We're on to 'Hey Arnold' now. Maurice LaMarche, who plays Big Bob Pataki on that 'toon, played this character from 'The Real Ghostbusters,' based on the hit 1984 movie.

Answer: Egon Spengler

This role was one of Maurice's first, if you don't count Chief Quimby from 'Inspector Gadget.' He reprised Egon during the short run "Extreme Ghostbusters" series from the late 90s.
9. Last '6-degrees' question! From 'The Real Ghostbusters,' this actor provided the voice of Slimer and Ray Stantz.

Answer: Frank Welker

Frank Welker has more voice roles than most 'on screen' actors ever have.
10. A tough one. Which of the following 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' regulars did NOT provide a voice to Disney's action series 'Gargoyles'?

Answer: Gates McFadden

This show seemed to be a reunion of sorts for 'ST: TNG' cast. Not only were Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis regulars; Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton and Michael Dorn lent their voices in guest roles. Kate Mulgrew provided a voice to the show as well.
