Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the main activity partaken in, by players at a craps table?

Answer: Betting on rolls of the dice

The complexity of betting is what confuses most people.
2. How many people run a craps table?

Answer: Four

The dealer in the middle (the croupier) calls the dice and handles them with a stick. Dealers at opposite ends of the table handle betting and payouts. The "box man" stands/sits across from the croupier, oversees all betting, and handles the bulk of the house's money.
3. Place a die on a flat surface. Look at the number showing on top. Now turn the die upside down. The first number plus this second number will always equal what total?

Answer: 7

Seven is the most loved and feared number on a craps table. There are more statistical possibilites of seven being rolled than any other number.
4. If one or both dice are thrown off the table, the shooter is asked to forfeit their bet(s).

Answer: False

The shooter can either continue to play with the die/dice s(he) threw off the table, or they can choose a new pair to shoot. The box man will also inspect the die/dice for any damages or tampering.
5. If you place a "field" bet, what numbers are you NOT betting on?

Answer: 5, 6, 7, 8

Considered by many to be a "sucker bet", the field does not include the most likely numbers to be thrown (6, 7, 8).
6. If a shooter throws the dice and you hear the croupier say: "Crappy Dice!" - which of the following numbers was thrown?

Answer: Any of these

2, 3 and 12 are the "craps" numbers. They are the least likely to be thrown.
7. In order to be a shooter, you have to place a bet.

Answer: Yes

House rules stipulate the shooter must have a bet on the table. Of course, you can always pass.
8. Which is the "come out" roll?

Answer: First roll of the dice in a round

When the dice are passed to a shooter, the first roll is "coming out!"
9. If you place a "pass line" bet you are betting for the shooter. Which numbers are immediate winners for a pass line bet on the come out roll?

Answer: 7 and 11

For a pass line bet on the come out roll: 7 and 11 win, any number in the come (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) will become the "point", and any craps number (2, 3, 12) will be an automatic loser. The opposite is true for a "don't pass" bet. This is when you are betting against the shooter. On the come out roll you hope craps is rolled instead of 7, 11, or a point.

After an established point, you hope 7 will be rolled instead of the point.
10. How many "come" numbers are on the table?

Answer: 6

The come numbers are: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10. Place a bet on the word "come". Upon the next roll, any come number thrown will become your "come-point". All come bets remain on the table until you win or until 7 is rolled.
11. Which is the "point" number?

Answer: Any number in the come

Upon the come out roll, any come number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) will become the point. The object is for the shooter to throw that number again before they roll 7.
12. Which of the following is an example of a "hard" number?

Answer: Rolling 5 and 5

Hard numbers are achieved by rolling doubles. The possible hard numbers are: 4, 6, 8, 10. When you place a bet on a hard number you believe that number will next be rolled as doubles, not any other combination (Eg. 4 + 4 = 8 not 6 + 2 = 8). This bet remains on the table until you win or lose, 7 is rolled, or until you remove it.
13. What is the only number that clears the table of all bets and ends the round?

Answer: 7

"Sevens out!" is not a pretty phrase (for some players). The dice are then passed to the next shooter (to the left of the previous shooter) and the process begins again.
14. If you "hop" a bet, you are betting on a single roll of the dice. Which of the following is NOT a common hop bet?

Answer: "Big Four"

In most casinos: "Yo Eleven" (11) and "Ace-Deuce" (3) pay 15:1. "Snake Eyes" (2) and "Boxcars" (12) pay 30:1. "Any Seven" pays 5:1. "Any Craps" pays 8:1.
15. You can make a "place" bet on any of the come numbers. What numbers can you place this bet on?

Answer: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10

Place bets are the same as come bets except they can be bet before the come out roll, play without a come-point, and pay less money.
