Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "This is the story of two sisters, Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell" is the beginning line of the introduction into which controversial sitcom set in Dunn's River, Connecticut?

Answer: Soap

"Soap" was a popular, though controversial, sitcom that parodied prime time soap operas that were popular at the time. "Soap" was known for its outrageously ridiculous plot lines such as alien abductions, mob hits and demonic possessions. The show featured two families, the rich Tates and the middle-class Campbell. Jessica Tate (Katherine Helmond) lived in a mansion with her husband Chester (Robert Mandan) and three kids Eunice, Corrine and Billy (Jennifer Salt, Diana Canova and Jimmy Baio). They also had a sarcastic butler Benson (Robert Guillaume).

Jessica's sister was Mary Campbell (Cathryn Damon) who was married to her second husband Burt (Richard Mulligan). Mary had two sons Danny (Ted Wass) and Jodie (Billy Crystal). Jodie was the first openly gay character to appear regularly in a prime time series. Burt's son Chuck (Jay Johnson) also lived with the Campbells and never went anywhere without his puppet Bob. Burt's other son Peter (Robert Urich) is murdered in the first season and the solution to that crime is one of the most famous cliffhangers in television history.

"Soap" caused a number of controversies that nearly led it to be pulled from broadcasts.
