The Goths had entered Gaul only to kidnap the winner of the Best Druid Award. When they see Getafix's wonderous potion, they decide that that is what they were looking for to help aid their conquests.

Thinking that the druid does not understand Gothic, the interpretor tries to get away by pretending to the chief that the Druid is ready to help them. Later, when the druid reveals that he understands Gothic and moreover, has no intention of helping them, he was really in for a shock.
