Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After the demise of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 2001, its assets were sold to the WWF. Who was the first WCW wrestler to appear on WWF television after this purchase?

Answer: Lance Storm

On May 28 2001, Lance Storm made a run in (interference) in a match on RAW, thereby making him the first WCW wrestler after the sale of the company to appear on WWF programming. Then-WCW Heavyweight Champion Booker T debuted only in June, at the King of the Ring pay per view, interfering in the WWF Championship Triple Threat match between Stone Cold Steve Austin (the champion), Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho.

He side-slammed Austin through an announce table, fracturing bones in his hand in the process. Scott Steiner, who Booker T had actually defeated to become WCW Champion on the very last episode of Monday Nitro, was sidelined with an injury which left him unable to take part in the storyline.
2. Whatever wrestlers were left after the demise of WCW and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) who had come to WWF were collectively termed 'The Alliance'. Who were the co-owners of the Alliance?

Answer: Shane and Stephanie McMahon

On the very last episode of Monday Nitro, Shane McMahon was revealed to have been in person at Panama City, Florida (where Nitro was taking place). After the closure of the broadcast, he made his way to the ring and announced that he was the one who had bought WCW. Fast forward to July 2001, on an episode of RAW a tag team match was scheduled. During the match, Tommy Dreamer and Rob Van Dam (RVD), formerly of ECW, interfered. WWF wrestlers Justin Credible, Tazz, Rhyno, Raven and the Dudley Boyz arrived, it appeared, to save the team of Chris Jericho and Kane. All these wrestlers happened to be former ECW talent and they revealed to have joined Dreamer and RVD by attacking Kane and Jericho. Later that night, Shane McMahon revealed to have merged the ECW crew with his WCW.

He also declared his sister, Stephanie McMahon as the owner of ECW. While Arn Anderson and Joey Styles had commentated for WCW and ECW respectively, they did not play an active role in the Invasion. Tazz would compete in the ring but also provide commentary. According to many fans, the Invasion would have been much more popular if former owners of WCW and ECW Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman respectively had played those roles on camera as well.
3. Stone Cold Steve Austin was WWF Champion when switching sides to the Alliance at the "InVasion" pay per view.

Answer: True

Stone Cold Steve Austin had defeated The Rock at "WrestleMania X - Seven" to win the title in early April, before the Invasion angle began. He would keep the title all the way until "Unforgiven" in September, tapping out to Kurt Angle at the pay per view to lose the belt.
4. At the Invasion pay per view, the betrayal of Austin left the WWF shocked. He had tossed a referee in the ring (who had been knocked out earlier) to count what seemed like a decision for his team. Instead, Austin turned on the WWF by booting a certain 'gentleman' in the stomach, hitting his signature Stunner on him and dragging Booker T onto the 'gentleman' for the referee to count the three. Who was this unlucky 'gentleman'?

Answer: Kurt Angle

Yes, it was Kurt Angle who held Booker T in the ankle lock while yelling for a referee to come and acknowledge the submission. Austin would face Angle the following month at "SummerSlam" for the WWF Championship. Angle won by disqualification, defeated Austin by submission at Unforgiven the next month, only to lose it back to Austin about two weeks later on RAW.
5. At the "InVasion" pay per view, who did not compete on the Alliance team?

Answer: Rob Van Dam

Although RVD was a part of the final showdown between the Alliance and the WWF at Survivor Series in November, he did not compete in the 'Inaugral Brawl' (as it was dubbed) between the Alliance and the WWF. Instead, he faced former WWF tag champion Jeff Hardy for the Hardcore Championship (the WWF belt, because a Hardcore belt was also contested for in WCW) and won after a near twelve and a half minute battle.
6. WWF Commissioner William Regal was watching the match ringside between Austin and Angle for the WWF Championship. He was meant to have been brought down to ensure fair play but he attacked Kurt Angle, costing him the title. He was fired on the following SmackDown. Who handed him the pink slip?

Answer: Linda McMahon

Yes, it was Linda McMahon who did the firing on SmackDown. She named Mick Foley as his replacement for filling the post of Comissioner. Regal turned to the Alliance and Shane and Stephanie McMahon readily accepted him. He was declared the Comissioner of the Alliance shortly afterwards.
7. A winner-take-all match was held at the Survivor Series pay per view in November to decide once and for all which entity would survive and which would perish. Vince McMahon was originally scheduled to compete in this ten-man elimination tag team match but he was unable to do so due to an injury. Who replaced him?

Answer: Big Show

Big Show was one of the five men on team WWF. His partners were The Rock, Chris Jericho (scheduled to compete otherwise too), Kane and The Undertaker. Chris Benoit had severely injured his neck prior to the Invasion storyline and missed the entire angle.
8. At Survivor Series 2001, the culmination of the Invasion angle, several titles were unified prior to the main event. Edge and Test battled to unify which two titles?

Answer: WWF Intercontinental and WCW United States Championships

The correct combination is the WWF Intercontinental and WCW united States Championships. The WWF reintroduced the US championship as their second mid card title while maintaining the Intercontinental championship. The Hardcore title was handed by its last official champion, Meng, to the Barbarian on WCW programming and later to the WWF formally upon purchase of WCW.
9. At "Survivor Series 2001", The Dudley Boyz defeated the Hardy Boyz in what kind of match?

Answer: Steel Cage match

This match was to unify the WWF and WCW Tag Titles. The Dudley Boyz won, thereby keeping the lineage of the WWF titles alive and retiring the WCW titles.
10. How did the Rock defeat Steve Austin to conclude the Survivor Series match between the WWF and the Alliance?

Answer: Pinfall via a Rock Bottom

The Rock finally managed to hit the Rock Bottom on Austin. The referee (who had been previously knocked out) woke up just in time to see the Rock covering Austin and made the count that ended the "InVasion". A backstage snapshot showed the entire WWF locker room cheering and applauding in victory but a snapshot of the Alliance locker room showed quite the opposite picture.
