Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The New World Order (popularly stylized as "nWo") concept, that of a tough, no nonsense street gang that attempted to take over World Championship Wrestling (WCW), came to WCW Executive Vice President Eric Bischoff. Where did he gain inspiration for this angle?

Answer: From watching a New Japan Pro Wrestling show

Eric Bischoff had watched incidents of wrestlers jumping ship from one company to another and creating chaos in Japan. He decided that if he were to implement a similar angle in the USA, on WCW's weekly television show, Monday Nitro, it would lead to an increase in television ratings and greater financial success.

He had Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and later, Hulk Hogan spearhead this angle on camera. The storyline was one of the most revolutionary in wrestling history and it led to a change in the way professional wrestling was promoted on television in America.
2. Who designed the trademark logo for the New World Order?

Answer: Craig Leathers

Craig Leathers acted as television director for WCW and he is largely credited for the creation of the logo. The ideas for the nWo's trademark hand signals were presented by Scott Hall. Terry Taylor was chief booker for WCW and he came up with the nWo's most popular catchphrase, "When you're nWo, you're nWo 4 life", which he presented on Monday Nitro in late 1996.
3. A showdown between Kevin Nash and Scott Hall (collectively called "The Outsiders") and a third partner against three of WCW's representatives was scheduled for the "Bash at the Beach" pay per view event. Who were the WCW representatives?

Answer: Sting, Randy Savage and Lex Luger

Sting and his partners Lex Luger and Randy Savage were chosen to represent WCW in the Bash at the Beach encounter (which was dubbed, "The Hostile Takeover Match") by a draft held on Nitro. Lex Luger was accidentally injured by Sting early in the match and was carried off on a stretcher.

The Outsiders had announced previously that their partner was in the building but they did not require him quite yet. The match continued as two-on-two but then later on, Hulk Hogan made his way down the ramp and into the ring.

It appeared as if WCW's saviour had arrived. But Hulk Hogan shocked the entire world when he turned on WCW and aligned himself with The Outsiders. Hogan cut a promo following the match where he announced his loyalty and friendship to Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, and he gave the group their name, "The New World Order".
4. By 1997, the nWo had become powerful to a point where they had their own pay per view, entitled "Souled Out". The first ladder match in WCW took place at the 1997 edition of this event. Who were the participants?

Answer: Syxx and Eddie Guerrero

The ladder match was contested for the WCW United States Championship. Syxx, who had competed in the WWF as "1-2-3 Kid", was the cruiserweight representative of the nWo. Eddie Guerrero was, however, successful in retaining his championship when he struck Syxx with the belt while both men were on the ladder. Masahiro Chono had defeated Chris Jericho earlier that evening while Chris Benoit was not on the card. Jeff Jarrett and Buff Bagwell both competed in singles matches prior to the ladder match and both won their respective matches. Diamond Dallas Page, though, lost to Scott Norton by countout.
5. Who did Hulk Hogan defeat to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at "Road Wild" 1997?

Answer: Lex Luger

Lex Luger defeated Hulk Hogan to win the championship on Nitro, just a few days before "Road Wild". His reign lasted a mere five days. Dennis Rodman in a Sting costume appeared at the match and struck Luger with a baseball bat. Hulk Hogan pinned him and was declared the new champion.
The Giant pinned Randy Savage prior to the main event with a chokeslam. Scott Steiner teamed up with Rick Steiner and defeated The Outsiders by disqualification in a tag contest for the WCW Tag Team Championships.
6. At "Uncensored" 1997, who dropped from the rafters after the main event and wiped out the four members of team nWo?

Answer: Sting

The main event was a triangle elimination match. Team nWo (Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Randy Savage) beat Team Piper (Roddy Piper, Chris Benoit, Steve McMichael and Jeff Jarrett) and Team WCW (Lex Luger, The Giant and Scott Steiner). Rick Steiner was supposed to compete for Team WCW but was attacked backstage before the match.
Sting dropped down to the ring from the rafters, lowered by a cable. With a black baseball bat in his hands, he proceeded to strike Nash, Hall and Savage and then hit his finishing move, the "Scorpion Death Drop" on them.
7. At "Spring Stampede" 1997, who was expelled from the nWo?

Answer: Nick Patrick

At the "Spring Stampede" event, Diamond Dallas Page defeated Randy Savage in a no-disqualification match. Nick Patrick, who acted as the nWo's own referee, counted Page's pinfall on Savage. Kevin Nash saw this and was infuriated. He proceeded to powerbomb Nick Patrick, leading to his expulsion from the group. Scott Steiner didn't become a part of the nWo until the original faction split into the "nWo Hollywood" and the "nWo Wölfpac" (which kept the original nWo logo but with the white replaced with red. Steiner became part of the Hollywood group and eventually became its leader once Hulk Hogan announced his retirement. Bret Hart only joined an incarnation of the nWo much later and Jeff Jarrett joined the incarnation that Bret Hart became a part of; it was dubbed "nWo 2000".
8. At the 1998 "Great American Bash", the Wölfpac suffered when Randy Savage and Rick Rude deserted them for the Hollywood faction.

Answer: False

Randy Savage only left Wölfpac once he got injured. It was actually Curt Hennig and Rick Rude who defected to the Hollywood faction at the "Great American Bash". Other defectors to the Hollywood faction from the Wölfpac included Scott Hall and Miss Elizabeth.
9. At "World War 3" in November 1998, why was Scott Hall evicted from the nWo Hollywood faction?

Answer: He had disrespected Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff a few weeks earlier

After being evicted from Hollywood, Scott Hall turned to the Wölfpac and his old friend Kevin Nash who accepted him back. "World War 3" would have a sixty man battle royal each year and the winner would get a world championship oppurtunity the following month. Scott Hall won it in 1997 and Kevin Nash won it in 1998. Hall helped Kevin Nash win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship the following month at "Starrcade" by shocking champion Goldberg with a cattle prod, allowing Kevin Nash to hit his "Jacknife Powerbomb" for the win.
10. Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage began to fall out by 1998. This led to a steel cage match between the two at "Uncensored" in March of 1998. How did Hulk Hogan win?

Answer: By forfeit

The Disciple (Edward Harrison Leslie; who wrestled as Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake in the WWF) arrived and knocked the referee out. Sting interfered on Savage's behalf but Savage turned and attacked him. Savage proceeded to spit at Hogan and then left the ring. Thus, Hogan was awarded the match by forfeit.
