Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Bret "Hitman" Hart is the son of the legendary Canadian wrestler and promoter, Stu Hart. How many children in total did Stu Hart and wife Helen have?

Answer: Twelve

The tough as nails Stu Hart who ran his own wrestling school in addition to his own promotion fathered twelve children. Eight sons included Smith, Dean, Bret, Ross, Owen, Keith, Wayne and Bruce all of which were involved at some level in the family business.

The four Hart daughters were Georgia, Alison, Ellie and Diana the last two were married to Jim Niedhart and the late Davey Boy Smith respectively.
2. In the fall of 1984, Bret Hart left the Stampede promotion run by his father and began making appearances in the WWF. What was the original gimmick for Bret Hart supposed to be?

Answer: Cowboy

The head booker for the WWF at the time was the legendary George Scott who had decided on a cowboy gimmick for Bret Hart. Hart at first agreed to the persona but the longer he thought the more he was convinced it would never work. At his own request he was made a heel, given a manager in Jimmy Hart and paired with Jim Niedhart.

The tag team of Hart and Niedhart were dubbed The Hart Foundation and would become one of the finest duos in wrestling history.
3. In a May 1987 segment of "Saturday Nights Main Event" The Hart Foundation, the WWF Tag Team Champions at the time, were defeated in a three falls match. Although a technicality enabled them to keep the belts, they lost the match. Which rival team did they face on this night?

Answer: The British Bulldogs

In January 1987 aided by heel referee Danny Davis, Hart and Niedhart defeated their longtime rivals The British Bulldogs to win their first WWF Tag Team Title. In May 1987 in a televised match on a segment of "SNME" the two teams faced off again this time in a best two of three falls match.

The Harts lost the bout in two straight falls but since they were disqualified in the first fall, the belts were prevented from changing hands.
4. On March 27, 1988, The Hart Foundation were two of the twenty wrestlers who competed in a "Battle Royal" at "Wrestlemania IV". It appeared as if Hart had come to a mutual arrangement to another heel to end the match but he was betrayed. Who was this wrestler who eliminated Hart to win the match?

Answer: Bad News Brown

After eighteen other men had been eliminated the last two men in the ring were Bret Hart and Bad News Brown. The two appeared to have mutually agreed to declare a truce and end the contest as friends. However, this was just a ruse as Brown attacked Hart, beat him to a pulp and eliminated him to win the match and the trophy. Hart quickly jumped back into the ring and furious at being stabbed in the back proceeded to smash the trophy to bits.

This furthered the reputation of Bad News as a loner and started the slow face turn for both Hart and eventually Jim Niedhart as well.
5. In October 1990, The Hart Foundation, now in their second reign as WWF Tag Team Champions lost the belts in match where the decision was reversed the next day. What team did they lose to?

Answer: The Rockers

On October 30, 1990, The Hart Foundation were defeated by The Rockers for the WWF Tag Team Titles. The match itself was a bizarre match in that the top rope broke just minutes into the contest. The reason why the title changed hands was because Bret Hart was in the process of signing a new contract and Vince wasn't taking any chances. Bret did agree to a new contract later that night so the rope breaking was a very good loop hole out.

The officials stated that because it was a championship match, once the ring became compromised the match should have been stopped. To this day The Rockers one night reign remains just a footnote in WWF records.
6. On August 26, 1991, at "Summerslam'91" Bret Hart won his very first singles title in the WWF. The title Hart won was the coveted Intercontinental Championship, who did he defeat for it?

Answer: Mr. Perfect

At Madison Square Garden on August 26, 1991 Bret Hart defeated the legendary Mr. Perfect aka Curt Hennig to win the WWF Intercontinental Title. The match itself was one of the best matches ever in wrestling history as two technical masters put on a terrific performance.

In fact, you would never know it but Hennig was nursing a severely injured back and refused to back out of the contest. By wrestling in the match his back became more damaged leading to a fifteen month hiatus from the ring. Sadly Curt would be plagued by that back injury right up until his sudden demise in 2003.
7. In January 1994 at "The Royal Rumble" a strange thing occurred in that two men were declared co- winners of the match. One of the men was Bret Hart, who was the other wrestler?

Answer: Lex Luger

In 1994 "Royal Rumble" was significant in that earlier in the card Bret and his brother Owen faced The Quebeccers for the WWF Tag Team Titles. After failing to win the match Owen turned on his brother and ignited a feud that lasted over a year. Later that night Bret fought in "The Royal Rumble" and in a weird turn of events both he and the other remaining contestant, Lex Luger tumbled over the ropes together.

Then WWF President the late Jack Tunney declared them to be co-winners and that each would get a WWF Title Match at "Wrestlemania X".
8. In 1997 to aid him in his feud against the red hot superstar, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Bret reformed The Hart Foundation. Now instead of just a tag team, the group was a faction with multiple members. Which of the following was NOT a member of The Hart Foundation in 1997?

Answer: Lance Storm

In May 1997, Bret Hart now a heel once more decided he needed some backup in his war against Steve Austin. Bret quickly made amends with both brother Owen and brother in law The British Bulldog. Shortly thereafter Jim Niedhart and the late Brian Pillman were added and The Hart Foundation was complete.

The faction's finest hour was without a doubt at "In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede" where on their own soil the five men defeated Austin, Goldust, Ken Shamrock and The Legion of Doom. Sadly only Bret and Niedhart, the original members, are left as Owen, Pillman and The Bulldog have passed on.
9. On December 19, 1999, Bret Hart, now the WCW Heavyweight Champion, faced Bill Goldberg in the Main Event of "Starrcade'99". Unfortunately Hart suffered a severe concussion which lead to his retirement. What caused this head trauma?

Answer: A Superkick by Goldberg

Although Bret Hart was able to defeat Bill Goldberg on that night and retain The WCW Heavyweight Title it was the beginning of the end for Bret Hart's career. A botched super kick by Goldberg caused Hart's head to literally bounce off the mat and hence lead to a severe concussion. To make matters worse Hart continued to wrestle with the injury for several weeks until he finally had to vacate the WCW Heavyweight Title in late January 2000.

The injury forced Hart out of action for over ten months and when his contract was terminated in October 2000, he quietly retired.

Many including Hart himself claim that injury was what caused his stroke in May 2002.
10. Eventually Hart and WWF head Vince McMahon were able to slowly but surely mend the broken bonds of friendship. In what year did Hart agree to be inducted in The WWF Hall of Fame?

Answer: 2006

The lingering effects of infamous "Montreal Screwjob" caused a rift to develop between Bret Hart and his former close friend Vincent K. McMahon. In 2006 Hart agreed to be inducted into The WWE Hall of Fame, under two conditions; that neither Shawn Michaels or Hulk Hogan be present during his induction. Steve Austin performed the induction speech and for the first time in almost a decade WWE fans saw Bret Hart at one of their events. Slowly the icy waters began to thaw and in January 2010 the unthinkable happened when Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels embraced on a segment of "Raw" ending a feud that started almost fifteen years prior.
