Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which common piercing is cared for as an oral/skin piercing?

Answer: Labret

The labret is cared for as an oral and skin piercing because (duh) it's inside and outside. The skin on the back of your lip doesn't recognize the labret stud as a foreign object and will often, without care, grow over the back of your stud.
2. What piercing is also referred to as a 'scrumper?'

Answer: Smiley

The smiley, or upper lip frenulum, (the skin under your top lip that holds your lip to your gum) is pierced and then the jewelry is put in. Hence, when you smile, you can see it.
3. What is an 'industrial piercing?'

Answer: Two piercings connected by one piece of jewelry.

Self explanatory, I should think.
4. What is normally threaded through a piercing to make it permanent?

Answer: Chain

A chain can be threaded through a piercing and in effect, the body will grow around it and through the links. This makes it almost impossible, without surgery, to remove it.
5. If you were to go into a piercing parlor, and say, "I want a crayfish piercing, please.", then what part of your body would you expect to be hurting?

Answer: The area next to your nostril, on your cheek.

"Crayfish piercing" is a term for a paired placement of Monroe piercings.
6. When a lip of skin surrounds your piercing, mainly as a result of gauging too quickly, it is referred to as a what?

Answer: Blow Out

It is recommended to gauge your piercing after it is fully healed, then gauging and waiting for that to heal. If not, you may get an unsightly flap of skin around your hole, and that also causes discomfort. Normally, you can downsize your jewelery, and it will return to normal within a few weeks. Others may require surgery to fix.
7. If your ear has collapsed, is the damage permanent?

Answer: Yes

Sadly, yes. The collapse of an ear is caused by infection that is trapped between the layers of cartilage. It spreads, and the ear collapses. This should be treated by a doctor ASAP.
8. What part(s) of the body should be pierced with a piercing gun?

Answer: Ears

Only your ears should ever be pierced with a gun. Even ears are not entirely safe to be pierced by a gun. It is possible to spread infection easily with guns, and they also tear through the skin rather than going through smoothly. If your piercer approaches you with a gun, walk away ....and get your money back.
9. What kind of metal should not be used in jewelry?

Answer: Nickel

Nickel causes allergic reactions in many people, and shouldn't be used, as a precaution. Stainless steel contains a high amount of nickel in it, but niobium and titanium do not.
10. Migration is the process by which your body rejects a foreign object, true or false?

Answer: True

This is where your piercing is rejected by your body and is pushed out. Surface piercings, (piercings requiring skin to be pinched together to get the needle through) are more prone to rejection.
