Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Goofy's debut cartoon?

Answer: Mickey's Review

In 1932, Goofy made his first appearance as an audience member. His unique laugh is what attracted people to him and eventually got him a starring role.
2. What was Goofy's original name?

Answer: Dippy Dawg

Goofy made his debut as Dippy Dawg, and is one of the most human characters created. His happy go lucky attitude, as well as his ridiculous laugh, made him a crowd favorite.
3. What was Goofy's son originally named?

Answer: Junior

One series of Goofy shorts featured him as a family man named George Geef. He had a wife who's face is never shown and a son only referred to as Junior. For some reason, whenever a woman is shown in a 'Goofy' cartoon, the face is always off screen. They are obviously attractive because Goofy is seen ogling them in several films (never when he is married though).
4. Which of the following was never a "How To" cartoon?

Answer: How to Drive

"Motor Mania" was a narrated Goofy cartoon like all of the other "How To" shorts but is more of an account of his misadventures behind the wheel of a car rather than an actual "How To". The "How To" series is, in my opinion, one of the funniest Goofy cartoons ever made.
5. Who was the original voice for Goofy?

Answer: Pinto Colvig

Although the others named did all provide the voice for Goofy, Pinto Colvig was the one who came up with the laugh that made Goofy famous and provided the voice for many of his early cartoons. If you have never heard Goofy's laugh from his first cartoon, shame on you. I strongly recommend you find a clip so you can see for yourself why Goofy became a hit without even saying a real line.
6. Why didn't Goofy do a lot of talking in his famous "How To" shorts?

Answer: The original voice left and they had to re-use the audio clips

If some of the yells and other lines sound familiar when you are watching the cartoons, you are not going crazy. When Pinto Colvig left Disney, they simply repeated lines from older shorts. For example, Goofy's famous yell (Ya-hohohohoie) was originally made for "The Art of Skiing", but was recycled in shorts such as "How to Fly", among others.
7. Goofy can often be seen humming and singing to himself. What line is he usually singing, which wasn't even written for a 'Goofy' cartoon?

Answer: Oh the world owes me a living

This particular song was written for a cartoon called "The Grasshopper and the Ant" in which Colvig, the voice for Goofy, voiced the lazy grasshopper who sang that song rather than prepare for winter. Somehow this song became part of Goofy's dialogue and he would sing the first line and hum the next.
8. How did Goofy animators describe his character?

Answer: A selfless corn fed hic

One of Goofy's qualities, which people fell in love with, was his attitude. He is slow-minded, but not dumb and always smiling and willing to help, despite the fact that he usually ends up getting in the way and failing in his objectives.
9. Which of the following would you probably NOT use to describe Goofy?

Answer: Short and stocky

Goofy was drawn as one of the tallest and skinniest characters out of Mickey and his friends. Goofy was almost drawn out of proportion to not only himself, but others around him. The animators loved to use his large feet, buck teeth, and especially his sagging rear-end in as many hilarious situations as they could.
10. Goofy has a tail.

Answer: False

If he does, it is always covered up by his pants but I think that it would be sticking out at times. Also, Goofy can often be seen flying around the screen with his rump sticking out and usually hitting the wall first.
